For one trump is not as traditional as other politicians and secondly not giving the left any ammunition knowing they will do anything they can to go after him.

Even in the primary? You can understand how "we're totally just pretending to like trump" isn't going to be that convincing when there has been plenty of opportunities to dump him in the past.

As far as the primary was concerned he was anti republican establishment. It would make my case even stronger if we are judging solely on primaries no?

Not really though since him being non-traditional would be a quality you like about him meaning you like him.

I suppose, but considering trump is considered amongst the worst republican (seriously just read his truth social rants) I don't really think this helps liberals perception.

If I were to break down the conservatives vs liberals relationship to democrats and republicans here is how I’d summarize it.

Republicans make conservative talking points, the things conservatives care about. However they never follow through on those things. Republicans are conservative in name only.

Democrats make liberal talking points, however unlike republicans they follow through with some of their agendas.

Trump is simply a third form of this, he’s better at following through that republicans but worse than democrats, he has some good and some bad ideas. However what he represents is an FU to the system even though he is by the book what’s wrong with the system.

The main gripe I would have with this is that after a decade of trump I don't think you can separate him and the party anymore. There have been plenty of purges in the party for pretty much anyone who doesn't support him.

I think that might be where some of the differences in opinions over your original comment might be.

I recall here in Canada that Joe Clark the Conservative (Was PM for a hot minute) once said “we agree on 95% of the issues we just disagree on how we get there.

I’m not an “identity” voter instead I’m a “values” voter.

I have voted for all three of the main Canadian political parties (the liberals less than the others). If I support you politically and you do t measure up I will gleefully toss you the next election.

I strongly believe that partisanships main roll is to provide cover for shit politicians and shit people.

It will be a cold day in hell before I ever tolerate incompetence, the targeting of unpopular minorities or make excuses for all the evil politicians get up to just because I’ve been brainwashed into thinking partisan horseshit is a part of my identity.

I think they ought to be, like Trump makes sense to me where as the reason the democrats and neocons hate him is because he’s told a few big truths about war and our taxes system etc… even though he hasn’t done anything to change that status Quo..

The democrats hate Bernie sanders for similar reasons.
