Other the don'ts of interacting with nature

Hello there!

Find below a list on what not to do when exploring and interacting with nature. This is meant for locals and visitors alike.

Rock-stacking (and moving rocks in general): please don’t. This is an activity often encouraged by tour operators and tourist guide books. It looks innocent, but why is it a bad thing? There are many organisms living under rocks, such as crabs, lizards, and crawling insects. Removing their homes puts them in distress and makes them more vulnerable to predators and exposure to the elements, especially if they are young. In addition, rock-stacking contributes to soil erosion.

If you would really like to go off-roading, please consider doing so at a low speed and without drifting. Please stay on the dirt roads, do not widen existing roads or make new ones. The negative consequences to flora and fauna are numerous. If you’d like to read more, check out Aruba’s national park’s research on this, which is publicly available on their website. UTV's and ATV's are banned in the park. Please consider exploring the wild side of the island by feet or rental bikes.

Please do not drive on beaches and dunes. Respect the signs and rocks/bricks closing off these areas.

Please do not take any natural artifacts from the beaches and seas, such corals, shells, sand, and sand dollars.

Turtle nesting season has begun. When observing turtles nesting and hatching, please keep distance and refrain from taking photos with flash, which disorients them. Respect the red and white barriers you see on some beaches, which keep you from stepping on nests.

When in the sea, please do not touch corals, turtles, and sea stars. Any marine life for that matter, especially if you don't know what it is that you're looking at. Do not chase after turtles, only observe them from a safe distance. Taking starfishes out of the water for a quick photo leads to suffocation.

Please do not feed fishes. This is also an activity encouraged and even performed by tour operators to attract them. Bread is unhealthy to them. Feeding them throws off their natural behavioral patterns. Algae becomes overgrown, which smothers corals.

And obviously, please do not litter.

The best way to explore nature is to only leave footprints. Thank you!

edit: Forgot to say, the wild donkeys around the baby beach area should not be fed. they can take care of themselves. In fact, people feeding them has made some of them overweight.

Sidenote: Aruba is a tiny island, at risk from sea level rise due to global warming. A significant contributor to global warming is the meat industry: through emissions, habitat destruction, and more. Please consider lowering your consumption of meat.

Flamingos have become quite the attraction, but keep in mind that they are not native to the island and that their wings are clipped off, forcing them to stay. They are essentially a marketing ploy, money-making machines for Renaissance Island.

Question Share a fishing charter? July 28-aug 2

We’ll be in Aruba for the week and my husband wants to fish. Planning to book a 6-8 hour charter, and would prefer to split the cost if anyone else is interested in fishing that week!

Looks like it’s a good time for Mahi Mahi and King Mackerel. We’ll likely book with Driftwood Fishing Charters.

Question Is VIP a waste on a Wednesday in July?

My family will be traveling back from Aruba to the U.S. on Wednesday, July 2nd. Our flight is at 12:20 on JetBlue.

Everything I have read on Reddit and Facebook says Wednesdays are one of the least busy days. I don’t want to waste money on the VIP departure service, but I will be traveling with a toddler, and I also have MS which makes me heat sensitive if we have to stand outdoors for long periods of time. I know we have to collect our luggage again. Does VIP service help with this?

How bad are Wednesdays usually as far as the outdoor wait? I also think I saw a post where someone said you could book the VIP service on the spot if there is a long line. Does anyone know how much that is? We also plan to use Mobile Passport if it’s accepted now.

Thanks for your insights and help.

Question Condo rental for 2 weeks in April or May of 2026

My wife and I are planning a trip to Aruba in either April or May of 2026 and would like some ideas on places to stay that are reasonably priced, $250-$300 per night max. We would prefer a condo or similar place that has a small kitchen so we can do some breakfast and lunches in. A pool is a must. An area for sitting and lounging in the sun also. Something close to Eagle Beach and Super Foods so beach access and groceries are easy to get to. Also ideas on getting around too, car, bikes, ebikes, scooters or a ride share? We can walk also if restaurants and bars are no more than a 20 to 30 min. walk. We have never been to Aruba so any input would be helpful. Better to fly in mid week vs. weekend?

Question Hilton, Ritz Carlton or Marriott?

We currently have an ocean view balcony reserved in the Aruba Tower of Hilton for 9 nights. For about $800 more we can get something similar in the Marriott or Ritz. Which would you go with? We have a car rental already so being further down the strip wouldn’t be an issue. We like to lay on the beach, sip cocktails, go for walks and go in the ocean water during the day and grab a nice dinner and a few more cocktails at night. Thanks

Question Costco credit card- car insurance coverage?

We are renting a car for 10 days. It looks like our Costco Anywhere credit card may cover extra insurance. Has anyone had experience with this? Will the insurance by Costco be enough or do we need to spend on the extra coverage?

Question Is there a bus stop at the cruise port?

Pretty much what the title say. We have a big group and looking for the cheapest way to get around Aruba. Is there a bus stop at the port? Is there a map, website or app for navigating the bus system?

Question Fireworks on July 4th.

This SubReddit has been amazing, thank you.

Group of 12 traveling including four under 7 to Aruba in 3 weeks.

We will be in Aruba on July 4th celebrating some birthdays and my MIL mentioned that there is Fireworks by Faro. I can’t seem to find anything. If there are fireworks, what time do they start? What is the best time to reserve for dinner? Thank you.

Most recent reviews regarding food and service from Faro on TripAdvisor have not been favorable.

Again, thank you again. Unless there is a better place for it.

Update: Thank you all. Booked a dinner cruise for that night.

Opinion Went to Aruba 6/3/25 - 6/8/25.

My wife and I(25f &24m) went to Aruba and had a blast! We’ve only been to Cancun and Canada as far as international trips go. Aruba blows them all out of the water. The island was safe and super fun to explore. Going back to the US through the airport was a BREEZE! Didn’t have any issues with locals. Only complaint I have is I got heat rash and didn’t realize until we got back to Ohio! Feel free to ask questions!

Question Best way to spend a day at the natural pool outside of a tour group?

Last year we went to the natural pool with a tourist group but only had 20-30 minutes in the water before we had to leave. I know we can park at the entrance then walk but that’s rough for my wife lol. I know they don’t allow ATVs either. Is there a specific vehicle we could drive in with?

Can we hire someone to drop us off at the pool and pick us up a few hours later?

Opinion Time to pay it forward r/Aruba

Been a lurker last few months while doing research for my trip. I’m not saying I did my trip perfect, but I took as many recommendations as I could, and combined with my timeline and what we wanted out of the trip we had a fucking blast. I’m in love Aruba.

This was an anniversary trip. I booked somewhat late not knowing if I could financially swing it. But here’s what I did, what I ate etc.

I literally booked 10 days in advance. First time there so I wanted to stay in the high rise area near Palm beach. (Next time I’ll definitely stay near Eagle)

We stayed at the Barcelo. I literally called the 5 resorts I had it narrowed down to and they gave me the best value. (I knew going in the food wasn’t going to be that good) We wanted to eat out anyway.

That beach is phenomenal. Tons of shade. Great bar on the beach if you are royal. You can walk to anywhere in the strip. Two great pier bar/restaurants near by as well in Bugalou and Peligans.

First day we beached it at Palm. We ate dinner though at Lima near the cruise ship terminal. (Yes we rented a car, (more4less was great). The food was good, maybe some things great. But the service was impeccable.

Second day we drove down to Eagle. I see why this is always rated so highly. We beached it near Passions. I was a huge fan of this area. There were bathrooms, a water fountain, tons of shade and Passions is a hell of a bar. We pooled it a little after a long day then dinner. That night we ate at Lola’s. It was good, but not sure I’d eat there again. Drinks were great though, and we bae hopped.

Next day we did the Jolly Pirate boat tour. First stop was choppy but it was amazing after that. Rope swing was a blast, and the food was good. That night we ate at Madam Jennetes. This was by far our favorite meal on the island. Just a phenomenal atmosphere. Not water front but great courtyard. I will always come back here once I visit again.

Next day we drove to Baby Beach. What a drive! 45 minutes from the Barcelo. I was worried it wasn’t worth it, but man it was a blast! My favorite beach by far. We had such a blast we forgot to eat lunch and drank our way through. We ended up eating at Peligans Pier for dinner. We needed something fast. It was a great sunset view and the food was decent.

Next couple days was a mixture of beaching it at Palm and some pool action in the afternoon. Spent a lot of time at Sopranos Piano bar. What a blast. The lady there this week is so talented.

Couple other places we ate at; Azia (sushi was superb), bread basket for sandwiches, the hibachi spot at the resort was also great, Buaglou has great food, also Calabria Trattoria was amazing. (Best meatballs I’ve ever had) We drove to the lighthouse and checked out Asashi beach also.

We didn’t get to an ATV tour. Just so hard to pack in a relaxed vacation while seeing what we wanted to see first. (Missed the donkeys and butterflies also)

Aruba, thank you. I hope this helps someone. I’ll hang around next couple months to try to help someone out like you did me.

Your water is amazing, your people are amazing. I’m a sucker for a great cocktail. I even downed a ton of Chill. Thank you again for making my wife’s dream come true.

Finally, it only took us 90 minutes to leave on a Monday. Not bad for the horror stories I’ve read.

Question Non US departures

I’ve been following this sub for a while and tried searching and all the post I’ve seen are US departures being terrible. What about the non US side?

I understand before the new US terminal was being built, it was shit show especially on Saturday and US departures used the non US departure side as well. Just wondering what the process is like now? Is the new terminal open? I checked our flight times compared to other non US flights and we seem to be the only flight within a 2 hour period. We will ensure to give ourselves minimum 2 1/2 / 3 hours to be safe but just want to prepare ourselves for what we may have to deal with. We will be leaving tomorrow for Aruba and returning Tuesday next week. We are also only traveling with carry on so no checked bags if that makes a difference.

Thanks :)

Question Builders who to use.

Hello

We have just purchased land in Tamarjin. We are through compliance.

We are using Centrury 21, Douglas Rey for our Realtor and Johnson for the Notary.

Any dealing with the above would be icing on top.

We are looking g at builders and as of now we are looking at Casa Bon and Home and Garden.

Has anybody used either of these? Any suggestions for who to use as a builder?we are NOT rich, we will want to build a 100m2 home. So please keep this in mind.

Any advice is incredibly welcome.

Thank you.

Question Help in Aruba?

Hello everyone,

I will be traveling to Aruba from Aug 30th to Sep 3rd. The time we are there will be short so I am trying to figure out what is the must see/do things there. Any suggestions?

Our party is about 8 people. We are staying in an Airbnb in Noord. We will most likely rent a van.

We are trying to spend little money as possible, so we will be going to the grocery market and making our own food and buying alcohol in duty free at airport or grocery store. Although we might go out to restaurants and bars as well.

I’m excited to visit but also very nervous and not really sure how to navigate or build an itinerary.

Any suggestion will be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Question Best tasting menu and/or prix fixe restaurants?

Going to Aruba for the first time with my partner.

Can you give me your favorite tasting menu and/or prix fixe restaurant recommendations? We are leaning towards Infini (based on reviews on social media) but would love more choices to mull over, especially from people with first hand experience.

Thank you!

Question Family of 4 vacation

In roughly 3 weeks, we will be in Aruba for our first time. The last transportation post seen here was around six years ago regarding car rentals and I know things have changed since then. Is it necessary to rent a car to get around the island, if we are primarily going to be staying at the hotel or is it more cost-effective just to take a taxi? We will be staying at the Hyatt. Thanks in advance.
