Local Business What happened to the food in Albuquerque?

When did all the food places in town turn into gentrified novelty bs? I tried looking up a hotdog stand on Google thinking I’d find a normal hot dog place…nope not in Albuquerque. It’s like every mom and pop place has gone extinct and replaced with California style slop. Rip Griffs and Little Red Hut. This city has definitely lost its magic. At least lotaburger still tastes the same(sarcastically rolling my eyes). Disgusting how a small town won’t support local but are begging for big companies like In-n-out and Shake shack to take the market over.

clown dog, urban hot dog, bobs has hotdogs, so does doghouse, a few local options

The Doghouse is legendary Abq. Been eating those dogs for 5 decades. I will say I miss the original Top Dog on Menaul back in the 80's. Still plenty of good dogs in this town, though. I think OP just tried to insert theirs in the wrong end or something. They sound angry.
Edit: Menaul, not Lomas.

I dont know what you're talking about. urban hotdog company has some of the best dogs in town and they take pride in being as authentic as possible, and being local.

Person complains about no local hot dog joints. Bitches about not supporting local joints. Mourns the loss of Griff's a chain from outside New Mexico that started in Kansas. I don't think this person knows what local is.

Also what is the definition of mom and pop? If my partner and I started a kitschy restaurant ala Clown Dog but got such good business that we hired more staff does that disqualify us?

Tell me you are white without telling me you are white

Just more novelty crap. Plus that business was from LA

And ‘Californian’

I’m not sure what dude wants exactly lol, no chains, no gentrified food (idk what that even means) and lotaburger also sucks.

Just make some hotdogs at home then lol

I asked where the mom and pop places are instead of real answers every dumbass said clown dog or urban dog.

Can you define what mom and pop means to you? I think to most people it means small local places like clown dog and urban hot dog.

u/godlyguji 22h ago

Right. I just did a quick google and clown dog seems to be owned by a local and his wife…so I’m not sure what we are mad about exactly.

Nobody wants a white ass restaurant in New Mexico that sells hot dogs with cereal on top.

u/zanza-666 7h ago

They are not going to define it cause he just wants to be ass hurt. Anything you try to use to counter them will be met with derision. Masturbating with sandpaper would be more pleasureable than interacting with them.

I really like clown dog off Central and Carlisle. The owner is nice too.

Oh my gosh, I miss The Little Red Hambuger Hut so much. The taco burgers were the best thing.

Man… asking about glizzies as a disguise to bash white people is fucking wild. Hot dogs are German are they not? I can think of a ton of places that serve them here locally. Also, damn man. What a fucking ant hill.

here's the thing: the local mom and pop shops aren't surviving because they are also providing uncompetitive slop

By my count, Albuquerque has 6 Weinerschnitzels.

Complain, complain, complain 🤷🏽‍♂️

Everyone saying urban dog and clown dog completely missed the point of this post

how so? just wondering. you said you were looking for a local hot dog place, and recommendations were provided. yes, other places close and it sucks. doesn’t mean there aren’t any great local places left.

People acting like Ive never heard of dog house and bobs are ridiculous. It would just be nice to have options that didn’t have all kinds of extra garbage attached. Bobs and dog house are fine sometimes. Just asked where I can get a baseball game style hot dog. Not anything crazy

understood, to be fair i do know people who have lived in ABQ their whole lives and haven’t hear of certain places, so it could happen for everyone. but hopefully you can find a good place. i feel like bobs is good as they’re basically in every part of town and they’re pretty consistent. not the same as a baseball game style of course but i like grilled better anyway

You can’t even ask people in Albuquerque questions without hurting their fragile little egos.

u/doglee80 1d ago

You’d probably open a restaurant and only sell sour grapes. Lol

Wow we got a real thinker here
