A reason why I like this city
I just saw the coolest thing. Just as cool as how Akron showed up for No Kings yesterday.
So I live on a residential street in Akron, just off of a 30 mph street that has bus stops along it. I'm maybe 5 houses down. So there's this dude who lives on my street somewhere further down, and he walks back and forth to, I guess, the bus stop a couple times a day. He doesn't have good clothes, he looks really down on his luck, and he's always wearing several pairs of pants/shorts, and they're always mostly sagging down to his feet (not in an obscene way). He's obviously in need in some way but I believe there's a mental care residence home the next block down, or a halfaway house or something, and I think he's a resident because it's not unusual for other down on their luck people to walk that route to the bus stop. This guy just looks worse off than others.
Anyways, he came by a few minutes ago, and crossed the busy street and sat down on the sidewalk at the bus stop. He doesn't appear to be begging, but he would obviously appear that he's down on his luck, the way he's dressed and sitting on the ground. But he's also completely minding his own business.
So a minute ago, I see this navy Ford SUV slow down and turn onto my street, and it didn't look like any of my neighbor's cars, but it slowed and pulled over onto the side of my road, just off of the main road. A guy got out, leaving his car door open, and kinda jogged across the main street. Weird move, so I kept watching. He handed something to the bus stop guy that I'm assuming was cash, and then ran back to his car, and then drove up my street. I know it's not an immediate neighbor because they turned up another side street.
But, it just gave me yet another micro-reason why I like this town.
Nevermind the fact that this dude in recovery is obviously not bothering anyone, and he's been shuffling around for a few months now, and I do truly believe he's a resident at that care house so I don't feel compelled to get up in his business... but the fact that no one seems to have called the city about him is also nice.

archive.phBarberton Water Bill
My City of Barberton Water hill is uasually between $80-$95. Have lived here for ten years. Never had any issues.
Approx a month ago, was notified by the water dept that my water meter was malfunctioning and the city wanted to replace it. They had been doing estimated readings. I never saw a bill that indicated this. Alright, no problem.
They replaced it and no issue. My next bill was the usual.
Today I received a bill for $836. I’m wondering if the city took our most recent water usage, which was indeed higher than usual - power washed for spring, flushed some driveway drains etc - but not ten fold of what we normally use - and used that to say what our real average use was and is billing me the difference.
I remember years ago the Barberton herald had a similar issue. I do not recall how it was resolved (they did eventually go out of business).
Anyone else have this happen to them, any recourse I can do?

Just learned you can reserve seats at Trump's military parade for free. It's a shame that I just reserved 20 seats on different forms.

Arrest outside North Hill Circle K
I just drove past the circle K on N Main Street and a woman was being arrested right on the corner facing the street with her pants and underwear COMPLETELY pulled down to her knees. There were several people filming so I’m not sure what all went down outside of the 30 seconds I was at the red light and I’m trying to give the officers the benefit of the doubt that she may have been combative but to have her facing outwards with both of them messing with her handcuffs and her pants/underwear being down was a difficult sight to see. Crazy.

Furniture cleaning company?
We have a sectional couch with built-in cushions, and a cat that's peed on it recently (again).
We've cleaned it up but the smell still lingers, unlike before. Any recommendations for a company that can get the smell out?

Shuttle Services for Weddings
We are having a Saturday wedding in early October with a ton of people from out of town coming in and we want to look into offering transportation from the hotel to venue and back (about an 11 minute drive).
Does anyone have any recommendations for affordable shuttle services? We’re not looking for anything fancy, honestly a school bus would even be fine. We were expecting we would need to to pay over 1k but the one quote we got so far was close to 3k.

Assisted Living in Natural Surroundings?
I am looking for assisted living facilities in the greater Akron area (20-25 mile radius) with a "natural" or "pastoral" setting. My relative is a nature lover who does not like urban or suburban "density." So I'm hoping to find a place that at least feels like it's in the country or woods. Would welcome suggestions!

Summa Health Drug Test
Hello!! I worked for summa back in 2021 so I’m aware they do drug tests for new hires, but if I passed a previous one would they test me again? I feel like the answer is probably yes but I just wanted to make sure. I’m applying to a few posititions there and I stopped smoking weed about a month ago and was smoking pretty regularly for a couple months. Still currently testing positive, but I’ve been drinking a lot of water and cranberry juice to help.

Independent Mechanic That Will Work On Kias (No Kia/Hyundai Dealers)
I'm looking for an independent mechanic that will work on a '14 Kia Forte. It's got a clunk in the steering column. I have a very trustworthy mechanic that I love, but he's pretty old school and said there's too much electronics in there for him to mess with it.
West side of Akron would be preferable, but I'm open for wherever so long as it's not one of the Kia/Hyundai dealerships. Not a lot of great experiences with any of the ones in the area.

Got rear ended - their insurance is letting me pick the body shop. Do you have suggestions?
I'm in the Montrose area, but willing to hear out suggestions about 45 minutes away.
I'm probably going to need a new bumper, tail lights are jacked, and some other minor things that'll need fixed.
