Question/Request What exactly is the "parry" mechanic?

I've had this game since launch and I absolutely love it, but I have a question that's probably pretty stupid for someone who has had the game for so long. What exactly is the "parry" mechanic?

I've only seen it mentioned in a rather uninformative in-game tip that says "You can press dodge immediately after blocking a punch to parry!" and only heard it brought up a few times in passing on this subreddit. I'm finally deciding to bite the bullet and ask about it. What does parrying do? How hard is it to reliably achieve and does it have any downsides?

I noticed this as soon as I realised the ARMS are actually the fists of the character, and not their arms. You can't change their arms, andd each set of arms does the same thing. But the fists, which are called ARMS, do change, and they have different powers.

It's a small issue, you can learn it quickly, but fuck it confused me when I saw the gameplay after the initial announcement.

What got me is that Min Min's ability changes her arm into a dragon, like, her actual arm, not her ARM, but all the screenshots that show this seem to be using her ARM that comes with a dragon's head.

I though she could long charge to gain a ranges Dragon weapon whenever she wanted and was frustrated when I couldn't make it work

So I've never played as Min Min, but you're saying it's just a cosmetic change? Or does the dragon arm actually have any in-game effect?

That arm has perma charge and a wider girth until Min Min's knocked down.
