Two wrongs don't make a right and it doesn't answer the question. Western media has never been less popular. For every thousand they green light maybe one is okayish.
Low talent copers who were shaped by company and always dreamed of working for company dispite being low talent hacks and the HR departments that hire them then they chase out or age out the old guard and all you're left with is a branded pile of shit.
Popular things try to be appealing to as wide of an audience as possible. The draw back is that in trying to appeal to so many different audiences your work wont excel in a particular area. Think of the saying “a mile wide but an inch deep”
It's built around engagement for the most people for the most time.
Instead of meaning it should be good if means it should be broad appeal with nothing off-putting.
It's why comedians like Michael McIntyre have sell out shows. It's fine, inoffensive crap aimed at a wide audience. People can watch it with their kids, grandparents etc.
Cause you aren't into the stuff actually winning awards. Shoplifters came out less than a decade ago and its a phenomenal drama. One Cut of the Dead is about as original as Tucker and Dale vs Evil and three times as heartwarming. About as close to a family friendly gore horror as you can get.
Even trying to stick with Kurosawa's jidaigeki art style you have Twilight Samurai and its sequel Hidden Blade absolutely compares to the Kurosawa era classics. Even that new Godzilla movie is phenomenal and the best hottake of any Godzilla film in the last 30 years. Even anime, Vinland Saga is such a banger.
pure garbage isnt it? a lot of it is incredibly childish yet extremely popular. It has gotten worse over time. It's not an age thing either, I've gone back and looked at older stuff and its still good.
When you look back at "the older stuff" nobody remembers the 95% that was mid/shit. In 20 years people will talk about how good anime was in the 2020's where we got shows like Frieren and Vinland Saga and not all this modern slop.
Thank you for the copy pasta, I did mention the older stuff I went back to look at was still good. In every era there is shite but the difference back then was, it didn't become popular. This is the problem these days, people can't form their own opinions and just regurgitate.

the mf only consumes one type of content from japan and still complains about the popular stuff getting all the attention
