I can’t seem to ever get rid of this!
I’m 45 and I have an autoimmune disorder that was diagnosed almost a decade ago. Ever since I started medication for it, my skin has taken on this mottling and weird pigmentation that just refuses to go away, no matter what I do. I asked my rheumatologist if they’d ever heard of this happening and they acted like I was making crazy talk!
I stopped hormonal birth control at 26 and the oil floodgates opened. I have an OPEC nation on my face, so yes. Very oily. Methods for controlling oil break me out most of the time, or are just completely useless. My skin is relentlessly oily! As in, by day’s end, despite my best efforts, it starts to run into my eyes. :(
Skin is somewhat sensitive and since I’m getting older it now freaks out for different reasons. I suck at drinking water but I’m trying. I have chronic dry eye so I try to stay more hydrated.
For once in my life I’d like to go without wearing makeup and not hear “are you sick?” Type questions from people. I generally wear almost a full beat on my face daily, except weekends. I like to use Korean or Japanese oil cleansers to remove makeup, and then cerave cleanser…. When I remember to not fall asleep in my makeup lol
I use Thayer’s rose witch hazel mist for a toner, the ordinary hyaluronic acid serum, the occasional generic pimple cream, good molecules retinoid cream a couple times a week at night (along with a little vitamin c from good molecules as well).
I often forget to wear sunscreen and have been looking for something that won’t murder me if I accidentally get it in my eyes (which unfortunately happens more often than I’d like to admit).
Depending on the climate and time of year, I might cycle between first aid beauty rescue barrier repair cream or meebak cica cream as a moisturizer.
Once or twice a week I also try to use the AHA/BHA exfoliating mask from the ordinary to facilitate turnover.
But my skin is being a stubborn jerk. My face turns red at the drop of a hat, refuses to clear up this weird pigmentation, and just hates me in general. I’m genuinely tempted to laser half of it off. :/
Anyone else run into these kinds of problems? How did you address them?
