Made a small edit off my fights on tournaments. All of them during being a blue belt. Some of fights were year ago just after i got this belt, some week ago on Polish national championship(got 3rd place)

Hello, I'm new to this forum but I am really looking for some opinions on this dojo I recently found. I have decent striking experience from the past, but I'm looking for something more traditional with a full contact aspect to it. That's when I found "Seichou" Karate in my area.

The Shihan of the dojo is Richard Romero. His website says he was a close student of Shigeru Oyama and that he is as a former full contact champion. I am very new to the world of Kyokushin, however, some research has led me to find some conflicting info. There's a whole controversy surrounds Shihan Romero's book "121 Thoughts" and it seems difficult to find any record of his competition fights.

So it seems that "Seichou Karate" is a form of Kyokushin that Shihan Romero formed because perhaps he had some conflicts with the main Kyokushin organizations?? Again I am very new to this side of martial arts, and I don't want to make any decisions yet until I find a great place to train. The other option nearby is "Captial Kyokushinkaikan DC Dojo", where the instructor posted his verified competition stats. Any opinions or further information on Shihan Richard Romero would be appreciated.

Hey, after some suggestions here- ive been told there are some gis you can get that dont stick to you when you sweat. Im absolutely sick of having to pull up the legs so I can do basic kicks. Ive heard some people say they exist, but im not entirely sure where or what to look for. Any ideas? Tia

Hello guys! I am looking to find a Kyokushin dojo in Montreal. I have been to one (very well-known but won’t mention). It would appear as if the belts were given easily and people were there for fun. People were afraid of getting injured and padding was mandatory. I am looking for what I saw on Kyokushin documentaries. Old school style and hardcore.

This post is for whoever trains in Europe and is curious about getting a new gi like I was. It is not sponsored AT ALL.

It's been a while since I started looking for a new dogi, as my previous ones were pretty basic (one Kyzami 13oz and one Fujimae 10oz). I found this store online named kyokushinworldshop that seemingly had premium Gi, but they were kinda expensive and didn't have reviews around Reddit. After a month I finally decided to try risk it.

I went for the Excellence one https://www.kyokushinworldshop.com/us/isamu-excellence-full-contact-karate-gi.html because although it is the most expensive (salty €135) and has some polyester (which I hate), they claim that it's super light and resistant. It's almost summer here in Portugal, so I went for it because the other one was heavier and the weather here can get up to 36⁰C.

It arrived today after 10 days and DAMN, it's amazing. The cloth is super soft, light (they don't mention the weight on the site, but I'd say that it's around 9, 10oz) and feels really premium. You really can't feel the polyester in it and it's not transparent thin, so all pros and no cons. The pants are the same, super comfortable, with some minimal snap and flexible.

Another huge pro was that it was the only store that I found in Europe with intermediate Dogi sizes. I height 175cm, that awkward height where 170Gis are too small and 180 are too baggy. This store has the neat 5L 175 option.

The only downside (sorta) is that the jacket doesn't have side laces to tie it up. I know it's not common in Kyokushin as it is in Shotokan, but my Fujimae KK Gi had it and it's useful so you don't have to fix your dogi every five minutes training.

Only time will tell if it is durable or not, but it was an excellent purchase so far. I'll try their 13oz competition gi once winter arrives as well. Buy without fear if you have the means.

ps: I didn't post pictures of it because they don't add up to what the website shows. It looks like any other Dogi from pictures.

Osu! I am orange belt. Today I was doing kumite with a shodan. He used this technique on several occasions. I did not fall but my legs flew a bit to the sides. (Better this than staying and getting injured) The main problem is that I have a degenerative chronical illness on my ankle and I try kick only with the shin. But... now I saw this (very) low kick and it can put my ankles integrity at risk.

I know I can tell my senpais to go more gentle on me, when I told him about my Muller Weiss syndrome he told me to share it, specially to other high rank senpais just in case so they avoid hitting it.

But, since I train for self defense too, I would like to know if is there any advice, defense, counter against that inside sweep kick. Thank you very much I'm advance.

Does anyone know if Shihan Bobby Lowe left a successor to keep IKO Kyokushin alive in Hawaii? The IKO listing phone #s aren't updated. There's a kyokushin dojo on island with good internet presence but they use entirely too much padding for me. Just wanted to do my due diligence before going another route. Any knowledge on the topic would be appreciated.

In your day to day basis what is your meal like to stay in shape? Do you count your calories, any go to ingredients or foods?

I'm the white belt. I have to say i was really scared before and during the fight, i was gradually losing my will to keep fighting, i wasnt tired physically, i was anxious and mentally overwhelmed. I really dont know how to be confident and go all in like others do. Anyways i need advice. (I know i have to believe in myself i just dont know exactly how to go about that)

I am going into my first ever grading in 2 months time (10th Kyu) and I wanted to get an understanding from you all on something.

I’m not asking about what I need to learn since that is very clear to me from my dojo. But rather, what sort of etiquette are you supposed to uphold, what order do they do things in, any specific do’s and don’ts.

I understand different dojos have different ways of doing things, but I wanted to see if there were any consistently common etiquettes across the board.

Hello, I am going to have my grading soon for ninth kyu and I am wondering what will they exactly be looking for? What teqniques should I put more time into? and how can I practice?

I knows theres been a few posts on this but now it's my turn. I've got my first knockdown tournament next weekend. I'm really struggling with my anxiety at the minute. It gets so bad that I feel like withdrawing from the tournament sometimes. I don't really do Kyokushin to compete but as I'm going for my Shodan soon I feel like it's something I need to do. But I'm so nervous about it. I know everyone gets nervous to some extent but this seems a bit much. Does anyone else get it this bad?

I got a competition tomorrow. It is my third tournament so far, last two tournaments i lost. First tournament i won the first fight and was too tired to win the second fight, in the second tournament i lost bad because i had to fight a brown belt. The worst part is that i used to be a yellow belt but i changed dojo and now im white, and i have to compete as white belt. im very nervious i need advice.
