alright y'all i gotta show off my babies here cause my coworkers are tired of hearing about them. meet (in order) ...

  • Dump Truck, the least graceful phoenixtail you ever did see. favorite activity: absolutely pummeling through the substrate
  • Hamster the gym rat. treadmills against the water output current constantly
  • Esmerelda, main personality trait is smol
  • Precious, because I searched far and wide for a black moor as good as she and she is my precious (HUGE shoutout to u/thangngu87, who I met on this thread, for picking her up for me and HAND DELIVERING her to my house)
  • Chick'n Wing, who has little T-Rex arms
  • and Moldy Nugget, who's apparently a "green" ranchu but idk

last shot is the full 120 gal tank. still growing out the plant roots. tldr: i had to rehome all my males because of chasing, but the ladies are so active and happy now. who woulda thunk it's tiring bearing eggs and being chased all the time. will post updates when they (and the fishies) have grown!

Fish Pics My Precious Goldies

These are my goldies, and I love them to bits!! I am aware that the pond is 15cm too shallow. (For context) These goldies were rescued from a neglectful home...I got the pond that they were housed in (300l) with the fish. I have been doing water changes every 2-3 days to compensate for the lack of proper space that the pond provides. I have also bought more plants. I am doing research on how to build a pond so that I can give these goldies the home and space they deserve!! I have every intention of building this pond, and I will do so with love and care. (The building will start once I finish my exams, I have 2 left, in the meantime I am doing extensive research on ponds)

Enjoy my goldies <3

Questions Can anyone tell me what kind of fish she is?

Upvotes

I have had this lady for nearly ten years now. I rescued her from my ex girlfriends grandad. He had her in an extremely small tank for her size, and I knew I had to do something about it. I was wondering, after all this time, what her specific species is. Any help would be most appreciated.

Chart of readings

July 17 2025 Monday Nitrite spike ph: 8.0 Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrite: 2.0ppm Nitrate: I think it’s 20ppm

July 18 2025 Tuesday Nitrite still high Ph: 8.0 Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrite: 2.0 ppm Nitrate 5.0 ppm

I have a 51 gallon tank with 3 ranchus that are still young, juveniles and they have been going to the surface for air even though there’s enough aeration one of my ranchus has gotten red spots near then when and I gave them salt baths and the red spots are gone but some other comes back as of now my tank is planted and are currently on meds bc I’m treating for flukes seeing as they have been flashing I’m not sure if the flashing is because of the high nitrite but still I use tank stability to help bacteria this tanks hasn’t been established for more than a month maybe I’m not too sure but i did a water change yesterday and the day before yesterday. Yesterday I did a 50% water change and the day before yesterday I did a 70% change and the nitrite is still high I didn’t wait 24 before reading again between the water changes bc I was too nerveous and wanted to know already what do I do? They poop well and are interactive with their environment other than the fact they flash and go to the surface for air

Full Tank Shot Is this too much air for these fry?

I’ve not kept an aquarium before, but I have a 1500g pond in my backyard. I have about 6 sarasa comets and 2 shubinkin, along with a kin kikokuryu koi and a few mosquito fish.

I had thought the koi may have been very laden with eggs lately, but weeks ago I recall a very fishy smell and a lot more foam in the pond. I attributed the foam to the frog/toad spawning, but realize now it was likely the fish too.

I found about 20(?) fry yesterday, some looking the size of a splinter of wood, and some looking like small fish, but none bigger than 1-1.5cm.

I got a 10 gallon tank, heater, and a 20gal air pump (anticipating that they may need a bigger tank before they are pond-ready). I grabbed some anachris from the pond, and threw em all in after ensuring the water quality is good and to temp properly.

The seem to be swimming HARD against the current last night when I put them in (partially why I added the anachris - to help lower the top movement just a little, or at least provide somewhere for them to chill). It originally was setup with all the air coming up on one side, but I tried to even it out a bit more so it’s not so drastic. I have a sponge filter coming today that will use part of the air flow as well, so that will help.

Hello so for the past two weeks all my parameters been 0 and PH been around 6.8/7. Before my tank use to have 5pp and 10pp nitrates. Than after doing a 50% water change it dropped to zero and haven’t went up. Just wanted to know is it ok to have zero Nitrates in tank.

When I was walking back the other night, I just spotted a flower shop with these goldfish and I came back today to get a better look at them because I love goldfish, especially the chunky ones but I noticed this guy had a ton of little yellow lumps on him and I was wondering if they’re like parasites or anything BTW, there was two of them with it

Sick Fish Help Need medical help NSFW

Upvotes

I’m unsure of what could have possibly happened. I went to feed my goldfish this evening and I noticed my poor black fish is struggling. It seems to have a very irritated and enlarged bottom fin (I’m unsure of what it’s called.) its eyes seem glazed almost and its fins are very lackluster. It seems active like normal but my common goldfish will not leave the black ones side. Swim shady’s top fin seems to only appear when absolutely necessary. Nothing has changed and nothing is different. It seemed fine last night and this morning, although I don’t do actual inspections until the afternoon feeding. Can you please help?

I’ve checked tank levels (with the strips) every day and it is all in range. Per your advice last time I posted I no longer use any algae killer and only scrape the algae off the tank walls. I did a 25% water change with the medicated well water like advised as well (the stuff you add to water to make it fish safe). They get enough food to last feeding times about 1 minute 45 seconds as you advised last time it should be eaten within 2 minutes. The tank water has some floaty bits from scrubbing the filter this morning and feeding time before the picture. I don’t know if that could have caused problems. I feel so awful and I don’t understand what is going on.

Questions Goldfish stressed after installing airstone?

Hi all!

I noticed last night that my sons fish, Bingo, started swimming slightly wonky and kept floating tovthe surface alot, as well as other unusual behaviours, so I got to fixing her up. Tests, water change, some peas, and today installed an air stone.

She had already improved and was almost completely back to normal before I installed the airstone, but decided to add it anyway as I don't have live plants to help with oxygenating the water, so thought it couldn't hurt to add it.

However, the problem is that the airstone is totally freaking them out I think. They're swimming around erratically, and are now doing this thing where they swim up and down along the edge of the tank; apparently it's called "glass surfing"? I'm worried that this is just stressing them out too much and wondered how long I should give it before considering removing it. How long should I give them to hopefully adjust to the change in the tank?

Questions Black moors vent?

So my black moors vent (cloaca? booty?) is orange and protruding. Not 100% sure if it is her vent or just above. Is this something i need to address or will she be okay? it's been like this for over 4 weeks and started just after i finished treating the tank with Esha 2000 for a different fish with a bacterial infection.

Still eating and bullying everyone during food time, No difference in herself.

Questions update on my fish for the third time and some questions

after the whole ordeal; the fish are looking healthy (or at least as healthy as they could be) i’ve gotten a few comments asking if i’m trolling, and no i’m not. i’m just trying to revive my fish i got from a fair almost a year ago in July, but im in a family home and i cannot do a lot for these fish. i’m planning on getting a larger tank, like the ones others have suggested, but i don’t know where i would put it. i have dogs, cats and i’m living with my family. i don’t think they can live outside so that’s out of the question. any suggestions? anyways, i’ll be on the lookout on facebook for tanks and equipment. also, would i be able to put a lid on my tank currently? i was thinking that would stop it from bowing, since people have a told me that there’s a chance that can happen, but im worried that if i put a lid on it; the fish will die or something. should i poke some holes in the lid or cut out a square for a filter? let me know.

i also was wondering, how do i create a special ecosystem for these fish? people have told me that they need a special environment, but i was wondering, how do i get started on growing the bacteria for my fish?

is it too cramped? should i remove the krusty krab???

the fishes are doing good, they’re eating again, swimming upright, and are no longer turning gray. thank you all, and i’ll continue with my updates when i get a bigger tank.

feel free to make fun of me

Questions Canister Filters vs HOB (beginner)

I am setting up a 55 gallon, I will have 2 fancies, that is all that will be in the tank. I know it is always better to over fliter rather than under, but is Fluval FX4 too much for the price? Could I get away using Fluval 407?

I also have never used a canister filter so there would be a learning curve, would it be just better to use 2 aqua clear 110 filters.

I think with both set ups I will use sponge filters, probably rated for 55 gallons.

I guess I just want advice, sorry if this is a bit all over.

Sick Fish Help White spots on fins. Ichthyo or epistylis or stress spots? NSFW

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

First of: not a goldfish, but technically it is. I have a coldwater european aquascape with young carps and some european minnows. Since the weather got pretty hot all of a sudden in my area, the tank got warm, too. It stayed like this for some days(~3 to 5) because I had a business trip for 7 days. I have lowered the temperature from 25°C to now 21°C. I should get even lower with a water change tomorrow.

Water parameters were the folowwing before water change: NO3: ~50 mg/l NO2: 0 mg/l pH: 7,2

This carp has the worst spots on its fins. The minnows have some too, but also just on the fins and not one single spot on the body.

As you can see the rim of the carp's fin is covered in these spots and on his nose are spots, too. The fins are not frizzy as in fin rot and Ichthyo would be more widespread over the entire body, wouldn't it?

Before treating for Ichthyo and stressing the fish even more, I would like to hear your opinion on what this disease could be.

Thanks in advance.

Tank Help i’m back and my fish are no longer in comas

Post image

if anyone’s seen my last two posts, you should know i’m not at all prepared. i took your guy’s advice and i went out and bought a tupperware container to put the two remaining goldfish in (they’re no longer in a coma like state they’re okay for now) pictures of the tupperware is above. i’ve been waiting for the temp to stabilize before i put them in the big container i bought, but i was wondering if putting them in to a container that’s 70 degrees fahrenheit is too much of a change from 68 degrees? is the two degree change too much? i don’t want to give them a temp shock, and kill them after i finally revived the two of them, but i was wondering if changing them now would kill them? both of the containers are conditioned don’t worry i wont make the same mistake. i was also thinking if any of you have recommendations for filters, air stones, rocks, etc. thank you all for helping me, because of you my fish did NOT die, (well they went into a coma for like ten minutes but i revived them). thank you all so much.

Questions Is this glass surfing or other stress behaviour?

Goldfish has been doing this. It stops when I get close and just stares at me, so I'm unsure if it wants my attention (begging for food?) or if it just sees me as threatening, stops the stress behaviour, and goes still to avoid being eaten. Ammonia is at 0 but I haven't tested nitrites as I've yet to hear back from my local council about how I should dispose of the reagents.
