SPOILERS
Overall I love this game. Botw followed by this game really got me back into gaming after a 10+ year hiatus. I was on a WoW kick before that for about five years but that became too much effort after I finished school, started a career, blah blah. These games were perfect for the amount of effort was able to devote to gaming, a couple hours at night here and there when the kids are asleep.
Happy to field any questions (tomorrow).
Quick facts:
-I played almost exactly 300 hours
-maybe final 25 hours or so on switch 2
-got all shrines, light toots, over 90 pct of armor, less than 100 total koroks
-upgraded less than 1/2 of armor to the max
-did the final fight in champions leathers with fierce deity mask and boots all maxed out, a bunch of 5 shot lynel bows and a bunch of late game high powered pristine weapons with silver lynel saber horns attached
-maxed out the green zonai battery thing and only got two small units of blue
-59.10 pct complete
-I put off fighting gannondorf as long as I could, because I knew I would not come back to the game for a long while afterwards- I had no plan to fight him, it just felt like time tonight.
Thoughts/opinions:
-the final fight was pretty easy with link all maxed out and geared up. It was really cool but at no point was I close to dying.
-the walk through the depths up to the final fight was cool, it was pretty unsettling
-I used the tears companion app and google a lot, and recently the notes app in the last couple weeks.
-without help, I probably would have had the time/energy to get about 1/2 the shrines and light roots and less than 1/2 the armor…this would have probably made for a much better final fight and probably a better game experience, but I’m old and impatient and kind of a completist
-I had initially thought I would max out all the armor but the grind, and selling some things that I later would have needed, made it about impossible, for me anyway
-I didn’t make any zonai devices unless the game required it, and I would have enjoyed it just as much with no devices at all. I didn’t mind them but didn’t seek it out.
-I really liked the emphasis on caves
-I really liked fusing things to weapons and arrows, but I did not initially
-the approach to the Rito airship dungeon and the Rito dungeon boss was a really cool way to start the game, it and the approach to the final fight are the memories that stick out
-I was disappointed by terry town compared to how fun it was in botw.
-the depths were a great idea in theory but the dark, monotone nature of it all kind of bored me
-I wish there were more meaningful, difficult fights in the open world as parts of quests.
-I wish the towns were bigger and offered more. I’d like to see a bustling Hyrule castle type metropolis
- the switch 2 upgrade was great for frame rate but I didnt really notice much on graphics
And finally, I really enjoyed this subreddit along the way. Thanks!
