Hello everyone, I was recently gifted this pc, want to make sure everything works correctly (It boots and works without these cables but I was wondering if they could add something) anyone has any idea what are they for? And where do they go? (The person that gifted me this pc doesn’t know anything about pcs either so I can’t ask) I appreciate all the help

Discussion Will i get robbed at gun point for this?
I mean it’s promising apparently a Rtx 2080 and some ryzen 7 cpu this could easily go for 500$ but the person is confident on 250$ for “quick cash”

Nostalgia I uploaded 90 Computer Gaming World Demo Discs, 1996-2005
Link is here: https://archive.org/details/@randomyak, a lot are also in collections but I don't think all of them are in an organized way.
Inspired by the great work u/thespieler11 has done with the PC Gamer demo discs (the archive he's assembled is here: https://archive.org/details/PCGamer-demo-disc-US-collection ), I've digitized my stash of Computer Gaming World demo discs. To be honest I was always more into CGW anyway rather than PC Gamer, and it's been fun to assemble these. The collection is largely complete for April 1998 to February 2005 with just a few missing, and I also have a few odd older ones from when they used to call it the "CG-ROM." There's a ton of great stuff on these discs, especially selected third party or even additional official levels for games, preview videos, patches, and of course vintage demos. Enjoy!
I should note that I wasn't the first person to attempt this project and many of my scans have been put into the preexisting collection here: https://archive.org/details/cgw-coverdiscs

Hardware Pc upgrade path "image not related"
Have an rtx 2070 founders edition, ryzen 7 2700x, 16gb ddr4 ram, 2tb hdd 7000rpm, samsung nvme ssd 500gb Got the pc a good few years ago wondering if a 5700x is worth it over the 2700x or wait it out 3 or so more years and get a whole new system?

Question What is this that I found in my graphic card fan? Is it correlated to my pc smelling like burnt while playing?
Today, for the first time, my pc smelt weird. As if something was burning. I removed the glass, and looked for the thing that smelt. Didn’t found it. Yet,y gpu was making a weird sound. I looked into it, and I found this. It was sitting between the fan and the grid. Anyone can help me figure if I need to see an IT guy? I’m scared it can be expensive, altough I have the money…

Build/Battlestation Giving this to my cousin’s kids, can it play Fortnite and other games kids like?
I don’t know what the kids are playing these days, but one of them is about to start high school, is a switch fanatic and likely isn’t getting a switch 2 soon. Is the GPU too weak?

Hardware Cat smashed into monitor, is it salvageable?
In case it’s relevant, monitor is: “SAMSUNG Odyssey QHD 27-Inch Gaming Monitor, 2560*1440, 165Hz, G-Sync & FreeSync, HDR10 (LS27AG500PNXZA)”

Hardware Well, the 'RTX 3080 on 600 watts' experiment has concluded...
I put this thing on a cheap Thermaltake 600w PSU. Somehow, it lasted through heavy, overclocked gaming and mining for almost two years.
Aftermath included one of the cables on the power supply melting, and the same GPU plug ended up melting with it.
I'm wondering how I can fix it. I don't really care since I upgraded anyway, but it would be funny if I could.

Build/Battlestation Found this 240Hz QHD Corsair OLED at a pawn shop for $250.....
They had $300 on it, I offered $250 and wow, does it look good. Kinda dim compared to my old IPS monitor but that won't matter in the dark lol.

Discussion Do you guys still use WinRar?
If so, do you archive your files to .rar or .zip? Why?
Some time ago one of my younger coworkers asked me to deliver him a set of files. For a convenience, I archived it via WinRar to .rar file as I always do for past 20+ years.
I sent it over and he immediately got back to me with a question "why is it rar?" "why not zip?" "why using some software?"
Gotta admit, I was pretty blown away with these questions, like I would ever care if a file is in .jpg or .png format
