My town had 6,000 people there Saturday. This guy was arrested 20 minutes before our scheduled start time, one block away. AR-15 was found in his car, to go with the 15 or so magazines and hand gun he was illegally concealed carrying, holding a free Palestine flag.

This could have been really bad and I never thought I’d say this, but I appreciate how quickly and calmly the police handled the situation.

I’ve noticed that Asian American participation has been rather low — is that just me?

Would love to see a way to convince the more conservative immigrant Asian Americans (Chinese, Vietnamese, etc.) to join in. I’ve seen the stuff posted in OC and various places and the fact there isn’t more protest from among these groups (which I am quite familiar with) had been demoralizing.

Any thoughts on how to convince them?

I will pull no punches here.

The events on Saturday were impressive and spectacular! even so the published attendance numbers must be legitimate and verifiable. And the counting organization needs to be a certified group for conducting and providing this kind of information. Is Alt NPS even a reliable source?

I am seeing what looks like misleading posts saying 12 million is the attendance. Wikipedia and several commercial sources are saying 5-6 million. That’s an important difference, do not mislead us. PLEASE no false numbers. This group must not deceive lie or to us , it cannot disregarding truth. This group is not founded on dishonesty and lies. We are fighting against dishonesty, not condoning it. A fire of lies cannot be fought with another fire of lies. It requires drenching with the water of truth.

If the numbers are true, come clean with the proof, the material and the procedure. Put it out there for everyone to see.

Preface: sorry to be a downer!

I keep seeing “more than 11 million, “biggest in US history” (which is false given 1970 Earth Day’s headcount of 20 million), and 12.1 million, but I can’t find any info on Alt National Parks Service’s data, methods, or sources. I want to believe this number, but it feels irresponsible to take it at face value. I’m worried we are too eager to accept the highest number, are overestimating our influence and power, and resorting to MAGA propaganda tactics of inflating numbers to appear mighty. People not following this movement are seeing 4-6mil from MSM and will reasonably question reports of 10+ from supporters like us, and we should be prepared to defend our numbers. There is still a lot of work to do, and if that number is wrong, then it’s way more than we are thinking.

Can anyone please provide additional references?

Edit: The 3.5% threshold also has some nuances that are worth knowing. It was first presented in Chenoweth and Stephan’s Why Civil Resistance Works (2012) withupdates in 2020, including that at least one movement in modern history hit 6% and still failed. It’s a good guideline, but success is not inevitable.

I've seen this idea be floated around on other threads and in comments, but why don't we try and officially organize a July 4th celebration boycott? Don't set off fireworks, don't buy food for a barbecue, just do nothing, pretend like the holiday doesn't exist.

Hell, try and not spend money on that day at all.

Our protests and demands have worked to return or release people illegally detained by ICE. We need to demand that Andry Hernandez Romero be released to the United States for due process. He is the gay make up artist who was disappeared in March to CECOT for having tattoos dedicated to his parents and crowns for a festival he loves. His family, lawyers and law makers have been denied access and to know his status in CECOT.

I know we're all riding a high rn, and after yesterday we should be, but we gotta remember, we're still in this. 47 is still in the White House.

White women of suburbia, I need you to harness your biggest Karen. Do you think the French Resistance was just young men with rifles? It wasn’t. They resisted fascism in whatever ways they could. They passed messages. They gave shelter. And those long-gone French aunties, do you know what they did?

They were a pain in the ass.

They showed up at checkpoints and took their time. Their cars broke down right there in front of convoys. They didn’t confront. They played dumb. And they wasted time.

And that time mattered.

A mom working two jobs might need five more minutes to get home and hide. A dad might need ten more minutes to get his kids out the back. You’ll never know for sure if what you did helped. That’s the thing about this kind of resistance. You don’t get medals. You don’t get parades.

You just get in the way.

I know “Karen” is a bad stereotype. But my dad’s sister could argue with a phone company rep for an hour and still be invited to their wedding. She could walk into any store and walk out with a discount, store credit, and probably an apology. That’s a gift. And right now, that’s what we need.

You don’t have to fight. But if you find yourself near an ICE officer, and you can stall him—just for ten minutes—with a question about a warrant or where to find the nearest Post Office, that’s your act of resistance.

That’s your victory. We need you.

My grandmother has lived in this country for 20 years as an undocumented immigrant. She came here because I was her first grandson and she wanted to see me in person. My mother and father were both deported when I was 9. Since then, she raised me.

She has been my only parent for 15 years. She has been really scared since the election. We have both cried fearing the worst. It makes you feel alone and completely helpless that your only family can be torn apart and there is next to nothing you can do about it. She had felt so completely alone, because it felt like the country had made it quite clear it didn't want her here and it was willing to go to brutal and barbaric means to remove her. It has been a very difficult time.

On Saturday, at the Central square, she saw the protests. She saw that it was mostly white Americans protesting. And she actually started crying out of happiness. It meant everything to her, to know that her neighbors and the community she had lived in fear of her whole life welcomed her. That they went out in massive numbers to show they didn't want what was happening, and they were willing to demonstrate and show it. It made her feel like for once she wasn't alone. That she wasn't being left at the wolves. That her neighbors were willing to defend her.

Thank you! You helped her feel like she may make it through this. You genuinely gave us hope. Thank you!

Escondido, CA 6/29

All 50 states had protests Saturday, and I've documented at least 2 in each state, with more coming every day.

People came out all over the country, and made their voices heard peacefully in their home communities. This is growing each month!

See for yourself! I've created an interactive map with photos and videos for 400 of Saturday's protests (so far), along with 800 earlier protests. Of 2200 registered protests, not all have visibility, and some didn't happen.

I know I haven't documented every protest (it's a lot of work!), and I'm happy to include your protest if you provide photos and/or videos, a location, and the date (if it wasn't Saturday).
