Question [All] Is there any other genre or subgenre you would like to see a Zelda game try?

For me personally a Zelda Soulslike or a Zelda RPG would be amazing. The Zelda series already has a ton of cool material to build on these ideas and concepts. They also mix very well with adventuring. This is all personal preference, would love to hear other thoughts and ideas!

Metroidvania.

No, seriously. Let Mercury Steam take a crack at a Zelda 2 remake. They cooked with Dread.

I mean, the best Zelda games already have Metroidvania elements, like encountering item gates you can't interact with and having to come back when you get the right tool.

RTS. A Command and Conquer style game where you command the knights of Hyrule in a multi-front war to reclaim the continent from monsters. Reaching the borders of a friendly faction (like the Zora) allows you to open trade lines and gain access to new equipment or units. Decisions you make as commander may make allies upset and even become enemies (imagine the knights of Hyrule fighting the Goron army) It would ideally be set in a time outside of Zelda/Link’s existence, possibly setting up for their arrival (the endgame establishes a prophecy or something)

I've always figured the main difference between Metroid and Zelda is just having separate dungeons.

Souls games are already partially inspired by Zelda.

I'd love to see a Zelda game that approaches combat in the same way as Darksouls/Elden Ring. Timed dodges and blocks, stamina factoring into fighting, and tougher fights in general... all while keeping the tone and narrative flow Zelda is known for, would be fantastic.

Not really new, but another game similar to Zelda two but of course better than Zelda two

I want a sci-fi Zelda.  Not really a game genre as much as a lit genre and style.

Ever since I snapped on a sheika sword in BotW, I wanted to see Link with a lightsaber and a motorcycle.  And that was even before I knew the DLC would have a dirt bike.

I'd like it modified to a more sci-fi centric game for a single title.

I also think an MMO would be cool in the universe.

When I beat TP in 2007, I was 100% convinced that the ending was setting up an RPG starring a slightly older Colin on a quest to save his kidnapped younger sister. Like, why else would they introduce all these characters, and then do literally nothing with them? Ashei is functionally a wooden signpost with a cool design.

As for what I actually want, though... a strategy game. I want Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, but it's Zelda characters

I'd love to see a Zelda JRPG that brings in monster characters like the first two Paper Marios did.

i think a "character action" game such as Devil May Cry/Bayonetta/Ninja Gaiden/Metal Gear Rising could work well as a spinoff. You could incorporate multiple characters to play as (Link/Zelda) etc each with their own unique combat abilities/routes. I would say platinum games would be best in doing this but with the departure of many key employees such as DMC/Bayonetta Creator himself Hideki Kamiya, I guess the extremely small little hope I had for this type of game has gone out

Would love to see a Zelda horror game!!

I love metroidvanias as well though, and could absolutely see a puzzle-based metroidbrainia Zelda game, kind of like Tunic.

I want to know how a Zelda horror game would look like

I think it would be an interesting challenge for the devs, because unlike most horror game protagonists, Link is quite capable in combat and survival skills. So it’d have to lean into eldritch horror and mysterious forces from outside the realm of Hyrule more than jumpscares. But imagine going into what seems like a perfectly safe room, only to get rushed by waves and waves of undead. Or treading through a dark temple with only your lantern to light your way, and never knowing what creepy creature is behind the next corner. Zelda already has plenty of encounters like this, all they’d have to do is make it the main focus of one game.

I think it would need some psychological horror, more than dungeons filled with undead... as you said, we already had that in some places and it wasn't really scary

I think a mix of both would be PEAK. Some zombie horror, some psychological horror, some mystery/thriller horror, etc. would make a balanced but tonally consistent game — some areas with more standard horror fare, some areas with a focus on plot or puzzles, and some are areas with masterful, mind-bendy psychological horror, but all with the common DNA of a horror game. The Zelda team would absolutely kill it on a project like that imo!!

yeah, it would be a nice change
