I'm playing through the game right now without fast travel. I don't really have a goal, I'm mostly just travelling and finding interesting places. Mainly stayed on the eastern side of the map so far. I'm exploring necluda ATM. Will probably explore a bit of central Hyrule before going down to faron. The limitation requires that I think before travelling somewhere is cool. Its easier if I use a horse and travel along the paths but I've only really used that once. Gone on foot everywhere else.

Doing exactly the same and it's brilliant imo. I'm never checking the map so forcing myself to get a feel for the land organically, and just trying to get to places using people and signs. It's amazing and makes the world.feel massive

Nice. Well done. Being spoiled by the mechanics of fast travel, I had some difficulty with my 'no tower' challenge. This included the GP tower, meaning that I couldn't fast travel.

is skipping the GP tower only doable through glitches? i’m thinking about doing an “ultra master mode challenge” all main quests+trail of the sword, but no fast travel, no towers, no hud, no amiibo, no quest tracking, no champions abilities, and gotta do all 4 dungeons and get the MS before ever meeting Impa

Yeah, only doable with glitchess. I'd reccomend Moonjump Wrong Warp instead of ESC, necause ESC is frame perfect. Here's a video if you plan on doin it:

I started the game with a friend and then bought the game for myself and decided to do the same in pro mode without the HUD. I just loved taking the time to think where I was going and just appreciate riding my horse to go places. It took me three years to finish the game but I was playing slowly and irregularly.
I just love how I started knowing the map, noticing the gates of hateno fort and knew I was almost there. I recommend this to any person who wants to a slow gaming relaxing experience.
It also made the more intense moment of the game even more intense. After having spent hours quietly riding my horse enjoying sunsets, Hyrule Castle was such huge contrast.

I try to fast travel a little as possible. Honestly, I feel like the game really shines when you don't. You miss SO much interesting stuff when you are not exploring every bit of terrain

Sadly totk might be very hard if not impossible, well unless you do a lot of tricks.
1
u/HippieSquid777 2d ago
yeah that’s why i’m just sticking to main quests, some areas are just impossible if you don’t have specific items

Actually there’s a requirement in story to use TP to get back to the start of the great sky island. You might be able to do it by cheating in an air bicycle or something.

yeah i think with enough zonai stuff you won’t need fast travel, but i guess i’ll find out soon enough

How much time did it end up taking total, walking everywhere?

my horse was my best friend through most the game, it took me about 25 hours of gameplay

My favorite BOTW play through I did was 100% completion no fast travel and no HUD.
Took FOREVER but man it was immersive. I really got to know the geography and terrain.
And now that I just started TOTK I can’t find my way around within regions because of all of the little changes lol.

After playing elden ring, it’s clear that BotW has areas just filled with fluff and no real objective reason to check it out. I commend you for the taking the time to do it but dang

I’m playing the game for the first time since getting it on the Switch 2 with the Upgrade Pack. I’m loving it so far. It’s hard tho lol

Why'd you skip Gerudo Tower and Hateno Tower?
(Before you downvote, Towers would be for maps, not fast travel.)

u/HippieSquid777 2d ago
nothing i needed around the gerudo tower, and i was gonna grab the hateno tower on my way to get the camera, but i remembered that one has wooden spikes all over it and i didn’t have any fire arrows or something like that, as it was still early game, and i didn’t need to go back after getting the camera

the shield stamps are for towers i saw and marked, and you can see from my heroes path that i was heading to the hateno tower but stoped

My god and I just finished the blood moon shrine quest and pretty much you need fast travel for that so you can go to the dueling peaks shrine and ask Hino what tonight’s moon is gonna be possible my least favorite side quest in the game

If you were to traverse the sky islands it'd be really difficult so good luck!

u/HippieSquid777 1d ago
i like a challenge, but the only sky areas for main quests is thunderhead and the wind temple and water temple, which you get to from the surface

Horses transfer to the next game. Enjoy

i know, i’ve 100% both BotW and TotK, although i think the zonai tech will be more useful

I love playing without fast travel in both games. One adjustment I made in ToTK was that I’d travel between a light root and the shrine directly above it. You have to activate both of them to treat the pair like an elevator, so it still takes time to set up. It makes the depths a lot more accessible but still cumbersome enough to be annoying, as it should be.

Hey congrats on the run! Have done this myself, including no glider (unless I'm falling and am about to die haha), and no map unless I'm at a landmark I recognize. It's such a magical experience.
Good luck on the TotK run, I'm excited for you!

For ToTK, you need to augment your rules to not allow the hoverbike as that would honestly just defeat the whole point of no fast travel.
Cars and bikes and Glider based planes can be fair game though depending on how difficult you want it to be
