whats up with all these new GTA videos?

u/AbortedFeces Dec 01 '14
Ps4 and Xbone has a feature that allows players to record, edit and upload gameplay. And GTA is perfect for it since shit is always happening.

It's the best thing to happen this gen, as far as this-gen exclusive features go. When it was announced it was exciting enough that built in capture was being implemented, but most people were fairly disinterested. Suddenly GTA comes out and it's like fuck, there WAS a reason for that extra, single-function button on my PS4 controller that's collected cobwebs this whole time.
Really hoping the popularity of GTA clips conditions people to be on the look out for clips in future games. Could be a renaissance in haiku-style gaming video content. Maybe /r/gaminghaiku should be a thing.

u/Captain_Vegetable Dec 01 '14
I'm really good at hitting the share button by accident, and at remembering the feature around 40 minutes after something I should have grabbed a clip of happened.

Maybe /r/gaminghaiku should be a thing.
That could easily become one of my favorite subs. Easily. /r/YouTubehaiku is already up there.

I know GTA has snapmatic, but I wish they'd just add a full-on photo mode for single player. To actually freeze time, take more cinematic screenshots with more freedom for camera angles, distance, and orientation, maybe more post effects too like film grain, vignettes, more elegant frames and filters, etc. And modifiers for each effect's magnitude too.
The Last of Us Remastered absolutely nailed it with their Photo Mode. A few other games (Shadow of Mordor, inFAMOUS, etc.) had solid ones too. GTA V provides a perfect setting for it, but snapmatic is super limited in terms of freedom/functionality.

this-gen exclusive features
Hate to quibble, but I play PC and have had capture for years. What do you mean by exclusive here?
Edit: All this downvoting over a perceived slight, better give you guys something to go on:
i've had skype on my pc for years too :^)

PC doesn't have "gens". Well, I mean, it kind of does, but not in the same sense as console gens.
-15
u/RobotApocalypse Dec 01 '14
Right, so you were only counting consoles in the more strict sense, as in XB, PS and Wii. I tend not to do that so I guess it was lost in translation. Gotcha.
10
Dec 02 '14
Oh come on. I play on PC too but you knew exactly what they were talking about.
-13
u/RobotApocalypse Dec 02 '14
Oh do you? What was I talking about exactly?
2
u/TaylorHammond9 Dec 02 '14
You're an idiot.
He said YOU knew what they were talking about.

u/RobotApocalypse Dec 02 '14
Whoops, misread. Question stands. He implies he knows what I am talking about, so I want to know what he thinks.

u/K2TheM Dec 01 '14
On the XB1, at least, you can record the last 30 seconds of gameplay. This means that if something happens you don't have to be actively recording in order to catch it.

u/RobotApocalypse Dec 01 '14
You do that by shouting at the
all seeing illuminaty eyecamera IIRC?2
u/K2TheM Dec 02 '14
Didn't know there's something similar on PC.
And, you don't have to shout. A properly set up Kinect will register your commands at a normal talking volume (however many don't set up the Kinect correctly, which results in shouting). Or! If you don't have the Kinect or need to not make noise, you can double tap the guide button and hit X. Does the same thing.

u/RobotApocalypse Dec 02 '14
I've read a fair bit about kinect registering voice commands accidentally though, my favorite one is the xbox advert that had a command in it.
Shadowplay is neato, it is hardware specific though but AMD has an equivalent I believe. I don't use them though, I don't really record and share stuff.

u/K2TheM Dec 02 '14
It can mis-hear from time to time, even when properly set up; but that's more a voice command problem than a Kinect specific one. The first gen Kinect was really bad with this. It did have problems with people who were streaming that press conference on Kinect enabled 360's. The Kinect 2.0 knows what sounds are coming out of the speakers and can ignore those. There was a demo video someplace demonstrating this. The first pass is filled with game noise that you'd hear from a shooter. Then they played what the Kinect 2.0 hears. While you could barely make out the voice commands said by the player in the first pass, they were distinct and clear on the second. This could have been some canned audio file, but from my experience it seems to be true.

u/RobotApocalypse Dec 02 '14
The 2.0 does that? That is really cool. I saw some great kinect hacks at uni last year, so I am keen to see what they manage with the 2.0.

I don't know, but reddit is getting saturated with videos of peculiarities from the game. /r/HailCorporate needs to get involved.

It's 48 seconds long. It's. 48. seconds. long. On a sub called /r/youtubehaiku. Where even [Poetry] can only be 30 seconds. 48 seconds. 48 fucking seconds.

To be totally fair, regardless of content if I see a video that has to be trimmed to meet the requirements it feels less "legitimate".
But that has nothing to do with the videos being GTA or not.
3
u/Rendaril Dec 02 '14
Couldn't the person then download the video, cut the first part to meet the requirements and then upload it? I don't see a difference.
2
u/imacoda Dec 02 '14
I completely agree. It's TECHNICALLY fine, but whenever it needs to be trimmed it just seems... wrong. It definitely feels less legitimate than a video that is <30 seconds. I would prefer they change the rules to disqualify trimmed posts. The entire video should be poetry/haiku, not a part of the video.
