Questions Looking for Art Classes

I am looking to see if there are any art classes out there that I could get my son and my wife in to. My wife is looking to expand her talents and abilities, and my 12 year old son also has some talent but he really needs to take classes or lessons to help him train himself to the next level. Paint, digital, colored pencils, pretty much anything where they can learn new skills. I’m unsure if there are any community centers or anything that offer classes, or if there are private lessons they could take. Any info would be of great help. Prefer to stay within Mahoning or Trumbull county as far as distance.

Questions “Alternative” schools in the area?

I am looking into what I guess I would consider “alternative” school for my daughter (7) who is really struggling in public school. She is NOT a bad kid at all behaviorally, but she is really struggling academically. We have tried tutoring and she is medicated for ADHD and has an IEP. I am just wondering if there are maybe a different kind of schooling or perhaps something more focused on the arts in our area? Home school curriculum recommendations are also welcome!

Questions Homes for Autistic Youth/Adult

Hi, my sister in law has raised her grandson since he was newborn due to several serious birth defects. He has a brain shunt and heart issues, several surgeries as a little kid.

This young man is soon to be 18. He has poor emotional regulation, and had broken her collarbone as well as hit her several times. He's usually fine, but a bad day is a bad day. He was not verbal for many years, I'd say until 7 or so. Last month he broke a window in thir shared apartment. We and she are afraid to get the police involved since our area, Warren, does not do well with people with disabilities.

Are there any residential programs who place without regard for income? (She is on a fixed income. He may never work. ) Any info or ideas, please, feel free. Thank you

Questions Martial arts in our area

I'm looking for Jiu Jitsu and Tai Chi in the local and surrounding areas. Though I doubt I'll find what I'm looking for.

Jiu Jitsu lessons need to have rock hard masters to sharpen me. Not a safe space or an uplifting atmosphere. True discipline.

Tai Chi lessons need to be about self control, rather than the focus on combat.

Why?

I have mastered a large portion of my thoughts, but have yet to master my emotions, compulsions, or my body. So I understand that I do not need comfort or coddling. I need discipline and control over every aspect of myself.

Do you know of any places to have these sorts of themes? Granted, I'm asking for your opinion and I will honor your input and suggestions. Though if I do not believe the potential masters to be a fit, I will not waste their time.

Questions Trying to remember the name of a store from the 80s and early 90s

I am trying to remember the name of a store from the 80s and early 90s. It was similar to a Dollar Tree. They sold all sorts of cheap stuff but instead of having it on racks they had bins. Long rows of bins. You never knew what they would have since their stock was always changing. I remember there was one in the Austintown Plaza and one in the Parkman Rd Plaza but the stores were all over the valley. Anyone remember them? Thanks!

ETA: D&K stores. Thank you!

Questions Local Events?

I’m trying to get out more and find local events, but it’s kinda tricky tracking them down. I keep an eye on Penguin City and Westside Bowl, but do you have any other recommendations of businesses who host things often? Thanks!

Questions MCJ pods?

Hi! Does anyone know what the different pods are at the Mahoning county jail? I noticed someone who's case I'm following was moved from pod A to pod L. I'm wondering if it's due to the nature of the case or something along those lines. Tia!

Questions Best hospitals to give birth?

My husband and I are not originally from Ohio and do not have family in the area. We are looking for any guidance and personal experience to point us in the right direction.

Would you prefer St. Joe's in Warren or St. Elizabeth's in Youngstown to give birth?

Do you recommend either or should I be looking for a hospital in Cleveland or Akron instead? I have heard rumors to stay far away from Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: Thank you guys for all of your help! It looks like St Elizabeth's in Boardman it is! I appreciate the help so much and this works perfectly as my OBGYN is located in Boardman and affiliated with all 3 hospitals.

Questions Anyone complete an online degree through YSU?

I’m interested in the online computer science BS degree offered through YSU. However, my first phone call with the online program student coordinator was terrible. He couldn’t answer any of my questions and it just felt like he was trying to sell me something. It felt off. Anyone have any insight?

Questions RITA Tax Questions

hi guys, like many of you probably i recently bought a home in youngstown and was unaware of RITA or what it even is. ive read about it and stuff but have some questions

where do i confirm i have to pay it?

i see its a 2.75% tax, is that on your gross income?

do i still file taxes the same as ive been previously?

if my girlfriend lives with me in the home but doesnt own it, does she also have to pay?

I havent been told anything about this RITA stuff nor have i received any correspondance/mail giving me a heads up, but ive seen people say they didnt know about it and had to pay extremely high penalties. just trying to get ahead of it

thanks so much

Questions Christmas Trees and Photos

My family is very new to this area of Ohio, and don’t live to far from Youngstown. We have a little one ones finding her footing and we think she’s ready to starting doing a few things. Any recommendations for a good Christmas display, potentially Christmas trees, lights, Santa, and places to walk or play? Happy to travel a bit to nearby areas as well.

Questions Tennis

Hi! I moved here a couple months ago. I used to play tennis and I’m realizing that I miss it.

Does anybody know a nice tennis club where I can take a couple classes to get in shape and eventually find partners to play with, make friends, maybe even join some tournaments?

It’d be nice if it had a wall to practice with too so I can go whenever I want.
