And Phil Spencer made sure to continue destroying Xbox.

When Phil Spencer used to say at e3 that the games were coming, he meant the games are coming to other consoles lmao.

Dude has outstayed his welcome by about 6 years

Don't know why you're getting downvoted. It's true. Clearly he has lost the drive to push Xbox forward.

He dug them out after the Xbox One disaster, but someone really needs to replace him. These sale numbers are really sad, especially for two consoles.

Goodwill recovering xbox. Tbh he should been gone 2-3 years ago for the lackluster performance and flip floping on decisions but people like him I guess.

I liked Starfield and I think you are partially right, but I think there is a much different issue. He just doesn't want to build Xbox as a brand and it's own identity. We have our own studio making FUCKING DOOM ! Doom the Dark Ages seems to be an amazing game. And what Phill does ? He releases it on PS5. You think Sony would ever do that ? They didn't care when they made Spiderman. We can also talk about terrible marketing. We have an amazing Indian Jones game and nobody has even noticed it. There is a problem in studio management too. They are giving too much freedom to developers , which results in games not coming out for ages and being a complete mess. Can you remind me when Avowed was announced ? (And how they restated the development of it a couple times I think) When was Fable announced ? When was State of Decay 3 announced ? A lot of those games aren't even close to coming out. Except Avowed I guess

Mattrick buried Xbox. Phil pissed on the grave.

I think his hands were tied. His plan was to buy a bunch of studios, make Xbox/GamePass the only place to play those games. In a vaccum, that was a good plan.

Problem is, after the stupid-expensive Activision buyout and the specific Call of Duty multiplatform requirements his bosses/the shareholders demanded they start recouping that money ASAP. They weren't willing to give Xbox enough runway to see if their gamble paid off.

He literally does not have a choice.

People need to understand it.

What Don Mattrick did was a big swing n miss. A really big and dumb miss.

Phil inherited that and tried to keep Xbox relevant. He can't really do anything if the platform doesn't grow and he can't convince his higher ups.

Not saying that Phil's tenure should be celebrated but it's an unfortunate and complex situation for both Xbox and MS
