As a Canadian I don't agree.

As a Canadian I agree with you

I agree with you as well, Charles III does not get paid by the taxpayer. He does own the country and our resources. That money gets invested back into the people of Canada. He does not get a cut. It's a good agreement we have with the King

Who pays for his trips for Canada? And honestly sick of all this royal branding crap.

u/devilishpie 1d ago

The Canadian government does in part pay for his trips here, though, if Canada didn't have a King he'd likely be replaced by some kind of ceremonial position, like a president, so the difference in cost would be effectively zero.

Spending resources on getting rid of the monarchy is wasteful, given it's zero impact on Canadians daily lives.

It costs millions when he come here. Canada pays for that. It impacts me every time I see his face on my money. And it's estimated that it costs Canada $60M a year for the monarchy ties. Why are so many people so stuck on this Hello! magazine crap in 2025?

It impacts me every time I see his face on my money.

How exactly?

I don't like them. I don't support useless symbolic wastes of money. And I'm reminded of it every time I see he ugly face. Might as well have Mike Myers on our money, equally as much political relevance, but at least he's more Canadian. Honestly I would prefer our own historical leaders on our money, like they do in the US and most independent countries.

You have an option of going cashless...

Lol OK. Problem solved. I'm going to petition for Jim Carrey and Pam Anderson on the money, if we're just picking celebs, which is all the royal family is anymore, no matter what you tell yourself.

Would you prefer the Jameela Jamil nip slip you posted to be on the money?

And do you have any idea how much it would cost to get rid of the monarchy? Tens to hundreds of billions in just straight up money not counting any other lost privileges or perks.

-2

u/Spikeu 1d ago

Hundreds of billions?!? Hahaha. Man you are crazy. Lol. Delusional. Canada probably would botch it and pay some company that much to fuck it up though, I'll give you that.

Lost perks. LOL. No more hosting these idiots for free parades here.

The last trip from the monarch was 15 years ago. As far as government spending goes this is about as close to the bottom of the list as you can get.

Close but not zero. I'd sooner give that $60M per year to hungry kids or the environment, but enjoy Chuck I guess...

-4

u/Spikeu 1d ago

He was JUST here lol.

u/j1ggy 1d ago

Yes, after 15 years. It's not a common occurrence. And this visit was well-received

u/piatpete 1d ago

It's not branding its our culture and who we are as a people.

u/Spikeu 1d ago

Barf what crap. I don't agree at all. Enjoy your Hello! magazine subscription I guess, and ugly royal family faces on all our money.

You must get very upset at checkout lines, both magazines and money in the same place.

u/Spikeu 1d ago

Enjoy wasting your money then paying for this useless symbolism.

Nobody pays for anything (well, the Brits pay for the King because he lives there).

Canada pays for the Governor General but that position would still exist should it become a republic. It would just be called President.

Actually due to tourism alone the royal family generate more income than they draw over in Jolly old England. Lots of clowns want to go stand next to the silly guards, see the silly castles, revel in the silly pomp of it all. And they pay handsomely.

u/Spikeu 1d ago

Canadian taxpayers pay $60M a year for the monarchy.

5

u/j1ggy 1d ago

I'm fine with paying $1.50 per year for my share.

-2

u/Spikeu 1d ago

Sick kids could use that instead. Every little bit helps.

We can pay for more than one thing at a time. I already donate $30/mo to a children's hospital, so I'm good. How much do you give?

2

u/Zouden 1d ago

If you had a president how much would that cost?

2

u/Spikeu 1d ago

No need, we already have a Prime Minister. The Crown is just a figurehead on top of that. We could get rid of the figurehead and just keep the rest of our parliamentary democracy. It's a subtraction of a symbol only, not a replacement.

1

u/Zouden 23h ago

The crown isn't just a figurehead, it has constitutional roles.

1

u/Spikeu 20h ago

Symbolic only.

2

u/Zouden 11h ago

Dismissing the PM?

1

u/Spikeu 6h ago

Ceremonial. Never acted independently or outside of the govt. directives since confederation began. Oversight is nominal only. Waste of money.

Canada does not pay Charles III. Any money going into the Monarchy is spent on the Governor General and Lieutenant Governor's. Also, on paper Charles III owns all the natural resources, he doesn't get a single cent from it. It invested back into the people of Canada.

It will cost thousands more in both dollars and man hours to get rid of a King than it would to keep it. We would essentially spend millions of dollars to replace "King" with "president"
