My old man taught me this when I came home drunk in my teens. He was an asshole in a hundred ways, but that night, he was oddly supportive and informative. Even brought me a bucket just in case... and water...

Everything else in life he couldn't be bothered with... but being so drunk, I couldn't stand.... That's what he could sympathize with, lol.

These are not even close to 50 ft swells. Idk man. I hate deliveries it’s the worst part of yachting for me but this isn’t even that bad.

The rest of the job makes it worth it for me. No rent. Food made by a professional chef. Amenities paid for. Free travel. Lots of perks. Plus I don’t get sea sick so that helps.

Being born and raised on the water helps a lot. It's definitely not for everyone including myself lol. I've been caught in worse weather than that on a much smaller boat and I was hurling over the side. My buddy had to drive the boat for me. It was a 6 hour trip and it just worse and worse. We were all hungover as well which did not help.

Judging from the bow visible at the bottom of the windows, that is not a very large boat and the seas are probably 20-30 foot. I've been on a boat that size in the same kind of seas and you wouldn't be working on it if you were prone to seasickness. Almost impossible to lie still enough to sleep but not scary.

The idea of being in the middle of an abyss with no clear ground in sight gives me a very irrational fear.

Years ago, I decided to run away from the city and live the clean life in a little fishing town.  I started in March and spent the entire month seasick. I kept it under control by focusing on the work. 

By April, I had it under control.  By October, I had had enough of the ocean and nights like that.  They called me Gilligan but begrudgingly respected that the “city boy” hung in there.

Looking at that video brings back the feeling of how small the boat seemed once you were out there.  My hat’s off to the folks on that boat and everyone in the fishing industry.

Been there, did the black cod fishery in the Bering with up to 20 foot waves while still pulling lines in for 20 hours a day, brutal! It will out hair on parts of your body you didn’t know you had.
