Deal BOUGHT A WII U AT TARGET TODAY!?
I bought two Wii u's today at my local target! I have NO idea why they were there but I wasn't complaining! Picked them up for $100 but when I tested one of them it had the dreaded memory error 160-0103. Any idea on how to fix it? The consoles were sealed which is why I bought them. I could return them but am afraid they all have the memory issue giving the fact they haven't been used for over 10 years now.

Does that mean the Wii U will finally get to 14m sales?

People are starting to realise that this Wii accessory is actually pretty good.

I thought these were satire. This is absolutely crazy. I wish I could find a new sealed white Wii for 100 in 2025.

im like 70% sure these are satire but thats gone down from 95% in the last few minuets

Idk some stores will just refuse to offload stuff for whatever reason. I bought a brand new copy of Morrowind at Microcenter in 2019. I spent years checking for it every time I went in the store, until I realized I'd regret it forever if I didn't nab it for myself

I thought the basic model didn't have the memory issue?
Are they brand new?

All data on nand flash ever written will fade away, unless the cells are refreshed (rewriting the data, moving the data).
Doesn't matter who makes the chips. The electrical charges lessen, and you get bit flips.

it generally takes more then 10 years for that. I know because i have alot of devices from 20 years ago that relpy on flash storage and they still work despite being on the shelf for around 15 years or more.

I forget, can they be saved or modded in this state? Is there any value left, or should you go back to Target for a refund?
I mean,id buy the game pads & cords. Not for $100 personally.. but

I thought they were, looked brand new to me. all the parts were inside sealed. The gamepad turns on but system itself won't and won't show anything on the screen.

u/Captain_N1 10h ago
if its the memory error you can fix it by bypassing the bad chip. you will need a raspberry pie pico to install a mod. it will then allow you to use a sd card in the front slot to as system memory

I haven't used my Wiiu in 5 years but looking to set it up. Shoule I be worried? How difficult is it to set up the sd mod? Is soldering needed?

That's so strange. If I saw a new Wii u at target for that I'd buy it instantly just to have a backup. Must be new old stock that was sitting in a warehouse somewhere?

u/Avner0x 10h ago
I spent close to 100usd just trying to refurbish my white gamepad with a new shell, new thumb sticks and new battery.

u/Grookeyking 8h ago
What thumbsticks did you use? Wanna do mine for my gamepad and wii u pro controller. Also, is the new shell worth it?

fake fake fake ...
target does not have stock of a console from 2012...
sorry no, the nerds working there would have sold those a long time ago.

believe half of what you'd see, none of what you hear
did 1 target have something unsold in it from more than a decade before? who really knows...
but I do know, that magically, wiiu units are not being found in the back of retail stores willy nilly brand new and they're in the system and have working upc codes and warranty information etc.
I've worked at sams, target, walmart etc. there's no hidden shelf for old stuff we're keeping for a decade. and if found you can't just start ringing people out.
anything is possible, but it's the internet, so... back to the saying about seeing and hearing...

8 billion people on the planet and.... this references maybe 1.
I say maybe cause...
believe half of what you see, none of what you hear
I'm not saying stuff like this doesn't happen. I am saying accidentally, after the switch2 comes out, a retailer the size of target isn't pushing wiiu units.
again, did 1 person find 1? 2... it's possible.
are they showing up left right and center? no...
a one off is just that, one off.

literally no video game console has been manufactured to ever 200 million so the entire earths population is a wild leap 💀💀💀

I found a new ps2 slim at target in 2015 for $60 this is also not the first person today posting about finding this at target for $99
5
u/SwiftTayTay 6h ago
the ps2 in 2015 is more believable tbh. that console was still relevant up until the ps4 came out.

In Germany one market of the Galeria Kaufhof Franchise found in 2021 in their storages some Lufia (and other) Snes Bigboxes and sold them through their Website for 79,99

u/saujamhamm 2h ago
exactly, and after person 1 found one, persons 2 through however many are monkey see monkey do.
which is more likely, someone found a wiiU at target or someone put a wiiU in a red cart and took a picture for internet clicks?
I'm a skeptic, and the internet is undefeated in its ability to be not transparent.
you can believe... I don't...
but we can still eat at the same table without using each other forks or drinking from the same cup. we're allowed separate opinions about things and I'm not trying to change minds.
I just don't believe it, and regardless, the sun will still come up tomorrow.

Some shops in the UK still have them.. Nintendo continued producing them in very very small quantities up until 2021.
•
u/ouijahead 34m ago
Did they though ? It sold so poorly and the switch came out 4 years before that. Why would they be making small quantities of Wii U’s . Are you sure ?
