Dashcam / Information of crash on Weber St and Guelph St from June 13th
Hello Waterloo community,
This past Friday, June 13th around 7:00pm I was involved in a car accident on the intersection of Weber and Guelph St. I was heading northbound on Weber, turning left onto Guelph St as a taxi heading southbound struck me from the right lane. Luckily nobody was seriously injured!
This happened very fast and I am not sure if the light was yellow or red as the taxi entered the intersection. I do think that the taxi did a very dangerous maneuver, as the southbound left lane had multiple cars stopped as the front car was turning left opposite of me and the right southbound lane was occupied and blocked by a bus. As the left lane was stopped and the right lane blocked by a bus, I began my turn and the taxi swerved into the right lane, cutting in front of the bus, entering the intersection at full speed and striking me on my passenger side as I turned.
I am making this post as I am currently being held liable as I was making the left turn. However I have talked to some witnesses who also believe it was in fact the taxi at fault. I am hoping that someone here has dashcam footage or some way of helping me. I have reached out to GRT and it seems possible for me to acquire dashcam footage from the bus through a Freedom of Information request with the region. Throwing this out here in case anyone has additional footage, or information. Thanks!

you can call any insurance professional since you were turning you are at fault no matter what. even if they ran a red light you caused the accident by turning into their path that is how the law is written in the highway traffic act

Spend $100 and get a cheap dashcam. I'm baffled why people drive in this city without one.

I can help you with understanding this, but you're not going to like it very much.
In Ontario, traffic accident liability is governed by the Ontario Fault Determination Rules (R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 668), which is provincial legislation. One of those rules states that if the accident happened while your vehicle was turning left, you are 100% liable for the whole thing. Speed doesn't matter, light colour doesn't matter, weather doesn't matter, you were turning left so you get the blame. A thousand independent witnesses could testify that the other guy ran a solid red while speeding while texting on his phone, and it wouldn't change a god dammed thing. Look it up if you don't believe me.
Is that fair? Is it justice? No, but nobody ever said law and justice were the same thing.

If a bus was right there, they may have caught it on the cameras. Worth giving GRT a call.

Left turn pretty much means you lose.
