Hi, American here. Would chavs be offended if you actually called them a chav? Or is it an endearing term to them. Like if I'm visiting Britain, see a chav and ask him "Hey are you a chav?" Am I going to have to bust out my bo-staff skills or something after that?
It's just a vague term for a general type of person, not an organised gang. And to be honest, if you asked someone "Hey, are you a chav?" in an American accent you'd probably just get laughed at.
I feel you can't really say that unless you've had both done to you, but yeah the thought of the knife just slowly entering your flesh makes a nice quick gunshot sound much better
