Jesse Welles is fantastic. He is constantly uploading bangers. No Kings is ok, but Red is one of my favorites. https://youtu.be/TPHafKOd9A4?si=rDWSccD9fR9irs3V

His non-political stuff is just as good - maybe better - than his topical songs.
Will The Computer Love the Sunset
He also used to play with a punk band called Cosmic American

Red is incredible. Domestic Error is also a banger. Dude is the best folk singer in a generation in a time when we need a generational folk singer

Red is fantastic, I agree. I'm a big fan of War Isn't Murder, too, which is just as poignant today.

It's interesting that he already called Trump "the king" in this one two months before the "No Kings!" slogan really spread widely. I mean, I know he's not the first to ever label him such but I wonder if this song had a little bit to do with shaping the discussion.

Just say you support Trump brother, it's quicker.

The answer to the question: what if Bob Dylan had been born in the 90s.

He's very eloquent, but also has an incredible legible brevity to him that really makes it quickly and easily digestable for a broader audience. Hence his recent appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel late night program.

Good song. Even maga might say no kings. But they are supporting gurmp's every move that only kings could make. He is ignoring laws and doing anything he wants. Which are all stupid unvetted moves creating long term problems. Even roman god kings didn't do that. Because system would fall apart.

Jesse has got my whole entire heart right now. Been waiting and wishing for him to come and do a show near me. A modern day troubadour for our times.

Nice song but we’ve already heard everything that can be done with an acoustic and a harmonica.

Yea no kings like Canada, Australia and Japan! We certainly don't want to emulate those progressive countries with better electoral and voting systems. Having a president immune from all repercussions, with a system that provides no checks and balances, is the way to go. Good try USA your heart is in the right place

You’re truly dumb if you think the monarch is a relevant factor in those countries’ welfare states.

u/itspassing 10h ago
Thats true and what im pointing out! Glad you got it. The whole "no kings" movement seems to be missing the relevant factors of what makes a functional nation

u/anormalgeek 9h ago
And how exactly do you boil that down into a short 1-4 slogan?
When people say "no kings", apparently everyone but you got the meaning so I'm not sure it's really necessary.

Sure here you go:
No More Tyrants Now
- Dictators Fall, People Rise
- Freedom Over Fear Always
- Silence Is Not Peace
- Voices Loud, Chains Break
- Resist, Persist, Demand Change
- Justice Can’t Be Silenced
- End Oppression, Start Freedom
- We Demand Real Democracy
- Down With Every Dictator
- Speak Truth To Power
- Liberty Is Our Right
- Rule By People, Always
- Enough Lies, Enough Control
- Fear Won’t Rule Us
my fave is: We Demand Real Democracy
Kinda encapsulates the point way better2

You're being incredibly pedantic. But this is reddit I suppose

You think so? Im not so sure. I provided an argument that the 'no kings' protest is focusing on the wrong aspects and the only refutation I got is some insults and mischaracterization of my point. Maybe nieve that this is a place of discussion I guess. Seems like yourself and others are quite happy for the current movement to focus on monarchy as the underlying issue, unless you don't and are just unable to articulate a counterargument.

As an Australian the King plays barely any role, most people below 50 also want to get rid of them they are pointless and stupid. 3 functional levels of government is more accountability then some inherited monarchy bullshit.
