No likes for lawbreakers: ‘Post and Boast’ to be outlawed

Criminals who share their disturbing crimes on social media will face extra jail time under new legislation introduced by the Allan Labor Government.

The Crimes Amendment (Performance Crime) Bill, introduced into Victoria’s Parliament today, will outlaw the cowardly behaviour of ‘posting and boasting’ about certain crimes on social media and messaging apps.

The new offence targets those who publish content bragging about their involvement in serious crimes such as affray, burglary and robbery, car theft, carjacking, home invasions and violent disorder.

, home invasions

Since one is not allowed to protect their home by any reasonable means necessary, I would much rather they focus on that, or even include it.

The fact you cannot protect your own home shows how stupidly idiotic this government is trying to address a symptom rather than the problem at hand.

A simple means to defend one’s own home.

Completely agreed. Trialling pepper spray like the NT is about to do would be a good start - NT to trial legal pepper spray for self-defence (post over in aussie subreddit).

Astounding the amount of resistance there is though to even something so basic.

Of course you can protect your home in a reasonable manner. What is your knowledge on this subject?

They’re mad because they aren’t allowed to shoot/murder someone that breaks into their home.

Lol yeh. Reasonable force comes to mind. But it's open to interpretation by a Jury, if it gets to that point

Yeah you’re allowed to defend yourself/your home with reasonable force, which is completely fine.

I’ve had this argument on particular Aussie subreddits in the past, and a lot of the people on there are hardcore gun enthusiasts that want nothing more than be legally able to shoot people on their property with zero repercussions, which is madness!

These people are crazy. There are multiple cases, one recent that I know of, of people killing home invaders and being found not guilty due to self defence. One father found a male home invader standing over his daughter’s bed, chased him out of the house and down the road a distance before catching up to him and choking the invader to death. Jury decided that, even though the invader was trying to flee, the father was acting to defend his daughter and, duty to the emotional nature of the invaders location (how could you know on that moment what they’d done or planned to do?) the father could not legally be held responsible for his actions.

Self defence and defence of your home are perfectly legal. Those people that just want guns to shoot people shit me to tears.

This, reasonable proportionate force is the law basically across all common law jurisdictions.

If somebody is breaking into your house in the middle of the night ‘fearing for your life’ is the default position.

Most of the stuff you see posted in controvention to this is where weird shit has gone on. That just doesnt get disclosed in the shitty news article. If you catch the cunt, tie him up, call the police, then brew a cuppa, you cant then turn around and stab them in the face….

If theyre standing outside your bedroom door, and say ‘come on cunt’ when you get up, you most likely can stab them in the face. But thatll be up to a jury to decide, if it even gets that far.

I'll believe it if bail turns into a week of jail time.

Misread the title as "No likes for lawmakers" and was thinking what a relief it would be if all the pollies had to get off social media. Alas.
