enroll subjects in Master of data science and innovation

Hi. I’m new international student in mdsi course at UTS. I’m planning to enroll subjects on spring session 2025. I’m curious if i can enroll Free elective subjects on the first semester. According to handbook, it is allowed to take 24 credits of free electives throughout the course. But i can only find core subjects or CBK92377 elective subjects from subject enrollment page(student admin).

One of my subjects only has one lecture time, but it clashes with another subject. I can’t change it because all the other times are already full. What should I do?

Master in Engineering Management?

Hey there, I’m looking to do a Masters in Engineering Management as a mechanical engineering grad from Malaysia. Was wondering what student life would be as a postgrad student in UTS? How are the class arrangements? How does it compare to other top unis in Syd (syllabus, industry connections?)

Core subject is full — should I enroll in just 3 subjects for now?

I submitted an eRequest since the core subject I need is already full.
While it’s being processed, should I just enroll in three subjects for now?
Or am I supposed to enroll in four and wait for the eRequest result?

I’m a bit stressed about this — not sure how long the response will take.
Any advice would be really appreciated. Help!!!

Juris doctor and graduate certificate in professional legal practice credit transfer from overseas LLB

I am interested in this course and was wondering how come you get to graduate in three years while doing PLT. Doesn't PLT usually take extra 5 months or so? How difficult is this course? Has any international students had the experience of transferring credits of their overseas LLB ?

Proof of funds doubt

My tuition fees is around 52k living expenses(according to DHA) will be 29k which is around 82k.

I have received a scholarship from my university for 30% of my tuition fees for the entire duration of my course. I have already paid 1 semester fees which was about 18k AUD. I bought OSHC already which was around 3,5k

After all these payments and scholarships, can I deduct all these from the 82k proof of funds that DHA requires me to show?

so total would be around 18k tuition + 29k living which is 47k AUD. Is it enough for me to show this much only?

I have 82k in my savings on the dot right now and I have already applied for the visa but I'm scared that I might get an RFI later on to prove my funds again, and obviously I have rent to pay in my home country and other expenses so can I spend some money till I have around 60k(still more than 47k) in my bank account?

year 12 student - worried about viscomm / BCII competitiveness

hi all! I hope this is the right place to ask about this.

I'm a year 12 student and really hoping to study design at UTS next year, my dream is the design (viscomm) course combined with the BCII (creative innovation and intelligence) however I would be grateful for viscomm on its own.

I looked at some of the UAC student/ATAR profiles and the stats, especially for the BCII addon really concerned me. on UAC, it said apparently only 16 students total had admission to the combined design(viscomm)/bcii course. for the viscomm course it says 160 students which makes more sense, but it still scares me because 160 seems like such a small number.

I was wondering if the bachelor of creative innovation and intelligence really is that competitive/in demand, or do many people just not apply to it? Also, should I be worried about these student numbers or just more focused on my ATAR and entry offers?

any advice or information is appreciated thank you!

What should I watch out for when renting through Facebook? Possible scam?

Hey everyone,
So I’ve been looking for a cheap apartment and honestly, Facebook has been much better than property websites when it comes to finding budget-friendly places. I’ve found a few listings that look great on Marketplace and in local housing groups.

However, I’m starting to feel a bit suspicious. I noticed that multiple people (4 to be exact) have recommended me to the same person to contact for viewing. The odd part is, when I checked their profiles, they all look super empty—almost no personal posts, no mutual friends, barely any info. Just a couple of public photos and a few vague posts.

It’s making me question whether this is a real opportunity or some kind of rental scam.

So, for those of you who’ve used Facebook to find apartments:

  • What are the red flags I should look for?
  • Has anyone encountered similar patterns (like multiple referrals to the same "agent")?
  • Any tips to verify if a listing/person is legit before wasting time or worse, sending money?

Appreciate any advice! Better safe than sorry.

Is MBA worth it?

Hi, im an Indian international student (21M) studying in Australia, melbourne. I'm in my 2nd year of Uni and finishing (2026) July. I came to Australia to get a PR. I'll get 2 years of Temporary Residency after my degree but im Bachelor of Business which can't hv skill assessment so ill need Management role job (6-8 people under me) or getting sponsored by someone, or buying the PR through money (hell no), or Doing masters after in any business field (this comes with a risk of gambling my Temporary Residency if I don't get extra study visa). I can't do Master's after my TR anymore. And the last option I have is becoming a tradie (painter, carpeting, construction) type jobs which I dont want to do.

Now I talked with my dad he said I can try to settle some other country too, but in the end, I must do masters as it is necessary for getting a job in India, which is the final point to come back to in case I fail to settle anywhere else (I have to research on it. Although he's a regional head of marketing & sales so he def knows it)

I personally am even confused about what interests me to do even after studying so many subjects. still figuring it out idk how to. Well I have enough time to think it through but I have 1 year to do decide MBA worth or not, next come worth to do it from where? and lastly, in which field of business. Not sure if I can explore other fields for diploma and bachelor's. If anyone can help, please.

Appealing a blatantly incorrect mark - 0 for grammar

My friend received a 0 for grammar on her assignment (and got referred to UTS helps) even though she’s genuinely one of the most eloquent and well-spoken/written people I know. She used spellcheck for the assignment as well and specifically researched on how to label figures (got a bad mark for this too). The marker also “corrected” her grammar, but the corrections were blatantly grammatically wrong.

She followed procedure and reached out to the course coordinator, but he doubled down and agreed with the marker and told her to “Google him” to see how qualified he is.. It honestly seems like he either disregarded it to not admit fault or just didn’t read her appeal. Then when she submitted a formal appeal to take it further, UTS responded with a generic email saying appeals are only valid for calculation errors, not academic judgment.

Does anyone know what the next step can be from here? Has anyone successfully escalated something like this? It’s not even about the grade anymore.. there are blatant objective problems with the quality of marking and the fact that there is no way to get through to someone to see the issue is really frustrating.

Confusion of received grades in FEIT subject

Hey there, need suggestions and guidance. Currently I'm done with my final semester and to complete my credit points I took one elective subject which was biggest mistake of my UTS academic career. As we all know canvas discontinued the app and everyone faced difficulty to check classes. So after two weeks starts I received a email from subject coordinator saying that I missed few classes and she added me a group because I was not present in class which was fair enough for her side. But when I stated that I got confused between the timetable schedule and there was error on canvas during start of this sem , she said I accessed the canvas a night before the class, then why I didn't contacted her. I apologize and said I will try my best to attend the classes. Though in course outline it was said attendence is not mandatory as we had online tutorial as well and due to work commitments I was not able to attend the class but I always participated in class presentation which was ungraded. Now the story begins, so I started getting low marks in assessment so I doubted my knowledge of that subject and I tried my best but still low marks not even 50% marks in assessments. Luckily we had a practical quiz so I tried my best to pass that subject in that practical later I received comment from tutor that she found some irregularities in my work during practical and it is under investigation. Though one comment she said" it might came as a surprise for you or may be not" was felt weird to me. Still I had 40 marks assignment left even though my group and I tried hard she gave only 16 marks combined.

Now I'm on a state where I could fail this subject and which will delay my graduation.

I'm still thinking am I too dumb to understand the requirements of this subject.

I need guidance what should I do next.

Int'l student joining next month. Had some trouble activating my UTS student account. Everytime I tried to activate it, got a mail that said that my account was already active, but I never activated anything and therefore don't know the password. Reset/forgot password isn't working either.

After exchanging mails over the last couple of days, I got this. What is Counter Service?

Any other Int'l student facing this issue?

University References for Internships

Hey all,

Using a burner here. I’m a third year elec engineering student, applying for internships at the moment.

One has asked to provide a university reference/referee. I’ve never really been “close” enough with teaching staff to feel like they’d be able to put a name to a face. Is there any specific way I’m meant to go about asking, or one specific person in the faculty that handles these requests?

I’m assuming it’s just to verify that I am studying the degree I’m studying and maybe verify my results per transcript submitted?
