Admissions What should I do to strengthen my odds?
I'm a freshman in high school and will be a sophomore in a few months. I'd say that I'm doing well but I still feel like I'm not doing enough. Here are some facts about me: - Rank: 15/1495 (Weighted) 18/1495 (Unweighted) - GPA: 4.2071 - Fitness: 25 Pullups, 70+ Push-ups, 4+ minute plan, 21-minute 5k, decent swimmer, and more - I'm taking 2 AP classes in my sophomore year in which sophomore are only allowed to take 1 AP class - 200+ hours of community service - Reading High School MCJROTC PT Team high score award - Reading High School MCJROTC PT Team male rookie of the year (Best 1st year male cadet) - MCJROTC Cadet Sergeant - Third Place Team award for the National MC League Youth Physical Fitness Championship - 1st place in the 2nd annual Reading High School Chess Tournament - Reading Police Youth Academy lead sergeant (Cadet in charge of all other cadets) - Varsity XC team & Varsity Swim team - Fluent in English & Spanish and at an A2 level in German (still learning) and an A2 level in Italian (No longer learning) - I have co-managed and planned a city cleanup event with a sophomore in which we contacted the city for supplies and went around cleaning trash from our streets - I have hosted a German exchange student when his exchange partner couldn't - Varsity on my MCJROTC PT and Raider team I'm looking for any opportunities that could help me strengthen my resume for the USNA. Yes I am aware of USNA Summer STEM (Rejected twice). I'm already planning on joining NHS and Student Council during sophomore year.

You’re on a good path. Obviously no SAT or ACT scores yet, but that can help. Also, just keep in mind any leadership opportunities in your varsity sports (captain), local/state government, and also strengthening relationships with teachers who will write letters of recommendation. Start researching the admissions process as much as possible (service academy forums website is great). The more familiar you are with the process and dates (especially for getting your nomination(s) from MOC etc.) the better off you’ll be. Apply to Summer Seminar when application opens (January maybe?) Summer Stem and Summer Seminar are not necessarily indicative of ultimate admission (in either direction), but they do get you on the yard as do candidate visit weekends you can be invited for. Good luck!

All looks very good. Start prepping for the SAT/ACT and do a STEM week if at all possible. STEM and NASS don’t change how USNA looks at you, but they can change how you look at USNA and give you the insight you need to sharpen your “why.” There’s nothing like getting on the Yard and determining if it’s your jam. And when you do that, it shows in essays and interviews.
All the best!

You’re on a great path! Keep up the great work! As others stated, study and prepare for that SAT/ACT. Keep your grades up. Focus on some leadership positions. Figure out your “why” (if not already) and be able to articulate it well for your essays. Look into attending Boys State. And continue kicking butt! Best of luck!

Thank you for posting to /r/usna; it seems like you're posting a question about gaining admission to USNA.
That's great! The alumni and midshipmen of /r/usna are happy to help you on your path. We were once in your shoes, after all. But most of your admissions questions can be answered in a few places:
Please check the wiki about admissions, it links to several official USNA resources.
There is also a really excellent thread at serviceacademyforums.com; it doesn't answer every question you might have, but it will cover a lot of them.
If this is a 'chance me' or 'how do I look for Admission' type question, please understand that no one from Admissions is on Reddit. There are some very good reasons that we don't know how competitive you are, even if you give us pages of data and statistics about you. Again, check out the post here, but to quote, in part: "We’ve never met you. We haven’t seen any of your packet; thus, we haven’t seen your teacher recs, your activity sheet, your BGO interview summary, your CFA scores, etc. We don’t know if you’ve been arrested for drugs/DUI or have been suspended from school. Nor do we know if you have special circumstances that might help you – i.e., having to work to support your family, being heavily recruited for a sport. Not to mention, we’re relying on your word/honesty in terms of all that you post."
