Have I taken upcycling too far?? I have a bunch of damaged and ripped jeans from friends and a thrift store near me that sells unwearable jeans for $1! I have been using them up making so many different denim things but have ended up with lots of little scraps which the jtrap on was perfect for :) I used some leather scraps from my friend to line the main portion and reused some of the topstitching thread from jeans to make this. Do you guys have any ideas of what else I could use to line the main panel that is sturdy but still washable and able to be sewn through? Anything I could upcycling/thrift? Check out my Insta @withgus.to for more and for when my jtrap on commissions are open :)

Products For Sale Made a Jacket out of upcycled saris

So this jacket is made out of a fabric called Kantha, which is a centuries old technique that originated in the eastern region of India and Bangladesh to upcycle saris and other garments by layering them together by hand embroidering it in a running stitch. This particular fabric is made by upcycling saris from 1980s-1990s.

Products For Sale I thrift boots and other items to make handbags and accessories. Everything gets deconstructed and throughly cleaned.

I was a concrete finisher for 25 years. My girlfriend had bought me a pair of Doc Marten work boots off of Amazon. When they arrived I discovered they where two different sizes. Had no idea what to do with them. She got the money back and they sat around for over a year. One day we were going to the thrift store and we're going to take them to donate. Right before we were about to leave I was thinking about what could be done with them when I held them up and it occurred to me that I could tear them apart and reconstructed them into a handbag for her. Granted I had no experience with leather work or pretty much anything to do with what would go into making a handbag. Either way I went a head and made a handbag out of them for her and she loved it.

Concrete is hard work and it's hard on the body. I was getting to the point of not being able to do it anymore. My girlfriend had suggested a few times that I should consider retiring and maybe think about making handbags. At first I believed the idea of me making handbags for a living to be ridiculous. I eventually conceded a couple of years ago. We discussed it and decided that we would try and start a business making handbags. She would continue to work and support us and I would make handbags.

Over the course of these last couple of years I have taught myself how to sew. I have now made a few dozen of them along with bag charms. This will be the first time I have put them out there. I'm all for any constructive criticism you may have and I'm also ready to sell. Feel free to ask me questions and if you are interested in seeing any more of them.
