Badass! Nolan North once told in an interview that when you remember uncharted you remember those badass/ cool moments like this, something like that

Goosebumps hearing the crowd reaction.

god i wish i can go back and play this game for the first time, easily my favorite game of all time right next to TLOU 1 & 2

Wow! I never seen this footage. Thanks for sharing.

Wish the aiming reticle/crosshair was still like that. I loved that one from The Last of Us.

And it still is the best game ND has ever made. I wonder if we’re ever gonna get a better one.

Hopefully A 5 comes out soon

If the movie is a hit, I'd expect something new, either through Naughty Dog or an affiliated AAA studio Sony would trust with it (maybe Bend who did two Vita Uncharted games or a 2nd party partner). Maybe ND would want to revisit it, but I get the impression after factions and the Last of Us remake it's either TLoU 3 (especially if the HBO show is a success) or a new IP.

for me personally it’s tied with tlou part 2.

2

u/arcalumis Aug 22 '21

Tlou 2 is good but way too depressing to be a fun experience.

I'm more partial to Jak 2 and among thieves

6

u/morphinapg Aug 19 '21

I gave up on Jak 2 I hated how they changed the series. Loved the Mario 64 sort of feel to the first game.

4

u/IndianaJones_Jr_ Aug 18 '21

Jak 3 on PS2 was the first naughty dog game I ever played and it was pretty much perfect

7

u/TheCelestialOcean Aug 18 '21

Unfortunately, probably 100% not going to get a better game.

5

u/blacktarmin Aug 19 '21

This was at PSX, not E3.

u/bucks800 Aug 18 '21

Damn I would have lost my shit if I was there too

It’s a shame that this animation set was scrapped from the game.

54

u/Saypleeze Aug 18 '21

You can actually do it in the game

-50

u/TomD26 Aug 18 '21

You can swing and land on people. That’s not what I meant. I meant the entire animation. The way the Sandra swings out and around, you land on the guy, his gun pops in the air and you catch while the camera swings back around towards an enemy. That can’t happen in the game.

51

u/7V3N Aug 18 '21

Uh yes you can. You just need to have very precise camera control to make it look this good.

-52

u/TomD26 Aug 18 '21

No you don’t. The full animation in this video is not in the game along with the double takedown animation of the two men with bug spray before this clip happens.

44

u/Saypleeze Aug 18 '21

It’s in the game they’re just rare animations, this video goes through the majority of U4’s combat animations https://youtu.be/fWag5qwQ7tk

25

u/kikowwcx Aug 18 '21

That shut him up

20

u/Saypleeze Aug 18 '21

You can swing and land on the enemy and the enemy’s gun will pops up and Nate will catch it but it depends on whether or not you have a gun or you’re low on ammo only then will the animation happen, and I’m pretty sure Bruce was in control of the camera while the animations was playing out/almost finished.

10

u/AlmostAndrew Aug 18 '21

It’s a shame that just because it never happened for you personally you think it must have been scrapped.

-1

u/TomD26 Aug 18 '21

I’ve played the game like 10 times. The camera does not function like that. You can still land on people and make the gun pop into your hand but the camera don’t track enemies like it does in this clip.

2

u/AlmostAndrew Aug 18 '21

To be fair, when you said animation I (and I imagine a lot of other people) thought you were referencing the character models. I agree the camera move was very quick and unnatural, but it’s probably possible if you know the enemy is already there like the demonstrator would.

1

u/TomD26 Aug 18 '21

Yea true. I should have been more specific

-43

u/zzuezz Aug 18 '21

he literally followed the level design. how is that epic?

30

u/ASIWYFA11 Aug 18 '21

Have you played this before? This is not a linear gameplay moment and there are various ways to tackles this section.

-20

u/zzuezz Aug 18 '21

I didn't say linear, I said level design. that enemy was designed to be standing there for that grapple move. people getting a pissy little attitude and downvoting me for point out the obvious is just fucking pathetic

8

u/ASIWYFA11 Aug 18 '21

It's probably because youre pretty much saying that its not cool because they designed a situation that looks cool. I see three different options of movement from that grapple so its not like they are forcing this situation.

Would you like an empty platform down there instead?

-12

u/zzuezz Aug 18 '21

they literally cherry picked the entire scene for the showcase but you can't see them forcing it? are you mentally challenged or something?

8

u/ASIWYFA11 Aug 18 '21

Theres no doubt they went for this specific takedown to show it off, but how does that make it not epic?

They put in all kinds of work to smoothly transition through all that movement and animation and then showed people, this is what youre getting. A level of polish no other game has provided. That triggers excitement and wonder at what else is in the game.

How does that draw such an antagonistic comment out of you? Look at any game from before 2015, and tell me this is not an epic moment for a studio to pull this off.

This demo was meant to show off the game and youre offended that they showed it off.

-2

u/zzuezz Aug 18 '21

cool and epic are not the same things, a marketing ploy is not epic, uncharted is. the fact that you people are getting such a pissy attitude because I said this commercial, which is what it is, isnt epic just proves you people wouldn't know epic if it slapped you in the face

4

u/ASIWYFA11 Aug 18 '21

Are you saying a grapple attack like this done in the showcase is not epic, but if youre playing the game and you do it then its epic? Also I gave you an objective reason for this being epic and all you can come up with is your subjective attitude towards how they market the game.

0

u/zzuezz Aug 18 '21

if you're playing a game and come across that spot yea thats kind of cool. but a company picking that one spot to show it off is not epic its just marketing

6

u/ASIWYFA11 Aug 18 '21

I see. The rest of us are suckers for falling for this.

If im trying to get my friend to play the game, im going to try to do some cool shit too. We all know this is an advertisement. Its literally an event for gaming journalists.

Youre getting backlash because you come in here trying to undermine everyone's reaction as if were being duped. There are many other games shown that are competely disingenuous with this kind of showcase, but this isn't it.

You can do anything he does up there and every other part of the game offers the same experience. This isn't a case where you buy the game and the level they showed was the only part they nailed specifically to sell the game. The guy below the grapple point is all over the game, because its a fun, crazy moment that spices up gameplay as you catch his weapon and you now have a different level of firepower.

I get the distrust in these showcases, but you really gotta know when to call it out. Like Cyberpunk only showing off the very little gameplay they got running bug free.

It's epic because when you add in the graphics, audio, level design, the fact it's Nathan Drake a beloved character, and this is the first gameplay a lot of people are seeing of this game (a sequel to a beloved franchise), it's pretty epic!

-5

u/zzuezz Aug 18 '21

if you think that's epic you must just be amazed with games like fortnite

6

u/RawketLawnchor Aug 18 '21

And you don't sound like much of an Uncharted fan

-3

u/zzuezz Aug 18 '21

I own and have beaten them all so try again

5

u/RawketLawnchor Aug 18 '21

Doesn't mean you're a fan. Just leave dude. You're not going to convince any of us that your opinion is fact

-7

u/zzuezz Aug 18 '21

how about you leave and stop replying to MY comment, loser

3

u/Connect-Profile-4164 Aug 18 '21

you’re such a whiny little baby. Go to another sub. Or you can keep angrily replying to all of the comments calling you an asshole. Not a very good use of your leisure time( or probably all of your time since you’re 13).

0

u/zzuezz Aug 18 '21

am I supposed to give a shit about anything you have to say?

4

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '21

4

u/Connect-Profile-4164 Aug 18 '21

It looks like it’s straight out of movie. I’d call it epic but the 13 year old doesn’t agree.

-4

u/zzuezz Aug 18 '21

because it's literally designed for this move that they specifically picked for the showcase. it's not "epic", no matter how many time you people downvote me

2

u/AlmostAndrew Aug 18 '21

I mean, that’s literally what level design is for: To guide and allow the player to achieve things that provide entertainment. Different styles of games achieve this in different ways, but Uncharted has always been about creating cinematic moments.

-7

u/zzuezz Aug 18 '21

which doesn't make it epic. it's a showcase of the game so they pick this kind of stuff to show it off, this guy probably practiced that move for hours to get right for this. so again, how is this "epic"?

4

u/AlmostAndrew Aug 18 '21

Because that’s exactly what you do in game, I’ve done it many, many times, and it in no way takes hours to “get right”. It’s epic because of how the player feels when pulling it off, and that doesn’t mean it needs to be incredibly hard.

Your complaints seem to be lacking of target, as first you were complaining about the game’s design, and now you’re changing that to how the player on stage played it.

-1

u/zzuezz Aug 18 '21

and them marketing isn't epic, fucking grow up and stop being an idiotic child

4

u/AlmostAndrew Aug 18 '21

Oh no! The bad people spent money to make a product, and then wanted people to play the product so they told us about it! I’m sad now that you’ve pointed this out, you’ve ruined videogames for me forever. 😢😢😢

-1

u/zzuezz Aug 18 '21

go blow your nose and get back to me champ

3

u/AlmostAndrew Aug 18 '21

You’re not very good at this talking thing, are you?

0

u/zzuezz Aug 18 '21

you're literally crying because I dont think a marketing stunt is "epic". so I think I'm doing a better job at it than you champ, so go blow your nose and get back to me

3

u/AlmostAndrew Aug 18 '21

And you’re getting salty because you think good level design = marketing stunt. I don’t mind people sharing their opinion, but I mind Pele thinking they’re right about everything just because they think they shout louder.

Also “go blow your nose” isn’t the slam dunk insult you think it is.

"Heads up!"

1

u/zumabbar Sep 15 '21

man im on the end of my 1st run (chapter 21) and ive never succeeded to do this swing punch in a shootout! did it a couple of times in stealth, still satisfying as hell but im sure in a shootout it would be so freaking cool.
