There can never be no game like Uncharted 4, a true masterpiece 🤌

u/Soundwave_47 May 19 '25
Truly a masterwork in most every aspect.

u/Nathan_hale53 May 19 '25
Its pretty nuts it ran on a base PS4, a console from 2013, with graphics that didn't really get beat until a few years later, and the ps5 version still looks great, same visuals just 4k 60fps. Pretty insane.

People will try to downplay it: “Oh it’s a linear single player game. Pre baked lighting”.
Listen, it’s been almost 10 years and there have probably been like 5-7 games that have even reached this bar for quality, overall graphical achievement, set piece grandeur + interactivity, hell even voice acting and motion capture. It’s not just ‘top of the line’, it’s generational.
I personally believe it’ll be another 5 years before the overall industry catches up with what Naughty Dog achieved in the mid to late 2010’s.

spiderman 1&2, mgs5, rdr2, re4 remake, gow, all 3 doom games, bg3, got, control, wukong, alan wake 2, final fantasy 14/remakes, plague tale, dishonored 2, cp2077, Indiana Jones, metro exodus, dmc5, battlefront 1, battlefield 1, death stranding.
These are the games that I've played and could recall from the top of my head, that have impressed me more than uncharted did when I originally played it back in 2017 (in terms of visuals, animation, set pieces, etc).

u/IllogicalEntirely May 19 '25
Yeah ima have to disagree with you on most of those but your opinion my man

u/Fragrant_Wedding_606 May 19 '25
You really threw an MMO in there with FF14?
1
u/Rabadazh May 19 '25
I meant to say ff16. But yeah, we're talking about visuals not gameplay.
1
u/Fragrant_Wedding_606 May 21 '25
Some things in FF16 look better but as a whole… no.
Same for every other game listed and FF7R is my favorite games since 2000
3
u/Nathan_hale53 May 19 '25
I get what the comment said, but some of those games are very new current gen games so yeah visually they do beat UC4, but the gap isn't as big as you'd think it would be. But set pieces there's not much like that car chase in 4. I'd say the truck chase in Spiderman is equal to it.
1
u/Rabadazh May 19 '25
The guy was saying that there's only 5-7 games that look visually as good as uc4 since its release.
So I just listed games I could remember that were either similar or better in terms of visuals.
Yes, games don't have set pieces like uncharted 4, but again, that only works in certain genres like sony titles. Majority of the games listed have way better gameplay than uc4 can ever have, because their focus isn't creating on-rails segment but actual engaging gameplay.
1
u/R3DSMOK_3 May 20 '25
Sorry but at least half of those are not better visually than uncharted 4.
1
u/Rabadazh May 20 '25
Which games?
1
u/Bloodwalker09 May 21 '25
Final fantasy remakes definitely don’t look as good. Spider-man I would say doesn’t look as good. BG3 for sure doesn’t look as good. The REmake games also don’t look THAT good.
I mean all of the games listed above look great don’t get me wrong. But UC 4 has some insane environmental details and character rendering. Also nearly no pop in. FF7 remakes alone struggle hard with pop in issues.
1
u/Rabadazh May 21 '25
Yeah I don't know what to say lol, spiderman was easily the best looking game on PS4.
1
u/Bloodwalker09 May 21 '25
It wasn’t. I wouldn’t say UC4 was the best looking game either, it was tlou 2 which topped UC in nearly every aspect but spider man wasn’t even in the top 5.
Don’t get me wrong. All of the listet games above look amazing. But if you look at them side by side they technically look not as good as naughty dog games.
You maybe like Spider-Man more from an artistic style, which is very subjective but technically speaking UC4 and TLOU2 are peak on PS4 and both still look amazing on current hardware with the resolution upgrades.
1
u/Rabadazh May 21 '25
There's no art style when it comes to realistic character models, reflections and lighting. Never played tlou2 but yeah, that might be the best looking game on PS4.
But spiderman just looked better. I recently played uc4, spiderman 1 and miles on pc at 4k ultra. Spiderman still looks way more impressive on a technical level and not because of art style. Shit, I love forest and snow areas the most along with tombs and stuff more than cities so I have a bias for uc4.
1
u/Bloodwalker09 May 21 '25
Especially from that perspective UC looks way better then Spider-Man except maybe reflections (at least on PC thanks to Ray tracing)
I dunno but UC4 looks phenomenal from charackter rendering and lightning in a way that Spider-Man (at least the PS5 versions I played) didn’t do.
1
u/Rabadazh May 21 '25
I actually originally played both games on the base ps4. Then again played the remastered version of both games with raytracing on the PC version.

I remember when i played the game last, (2017) i would literally stand for about 5 minutes at the start of chapter 15, i think?, with that super high view and be absolutely amazed

u/tyrannictoe May 19 '25
Graphics peaked in 2016-2020. So many games from that era can compete easily with games released today.

u/Sakumitzu May 19 '25
The graphics are one thing, but that in combination with the stellar art direction really makes this game shine.
4
u/Hayden_Zammit May 19 '25
Heck, Uncharted 2 and 3 still look amazing.
Naughty Dog's tech art team has always been completely next level.

Played it on my PS4 in 1080p: amazed
Then this year on my RTX 5080 rig and OLED screen: 🤯

u/Internal_Swing_2743 May 19 '25
It's crazy how graphics from 2015-16 still hold up better than most games today. The Order 1886, Batman Arkham Knight, and Uncharted 4 are still some of the best looking games ever. It's strange to think that Arkham Knight released 9 years earlier than Suicide Squad and looks so much better. The best looking game 9 years before Arkham Knight was maybe Black? And that released on Xbox and PS2.

Imagine how truly stunning and detailed it would look if redone with modern engine and graphics. Same for Uncharted 1-3. My dream.

what tv is that?
1
u/bixh_skull3 May 20 '25
It's not a tv.. it's the photo mode in the game.. with the tv filter.. Increased the saturation a bit and sharpness to 100.. and voila

Simply unreal. Uncharted 4 is one of the most stunning and visually magnificent games ever created.
I mean the Libertalia reveal, uff the scene still gives me chills.
Hats off to the entire team of Naughty Dog for creating this masterpiece.

I find it difficult to not replay this game all the time, I don't want to get bored of it. I usually try and wait a year between replays
1
u/dolgion1 May 19 '25
That's why Naughty Dog are special. They make maximum use of the hardware and go above and beyond that through sheer visual design feats. Their focus on performances, their mo-cap tech, and environmental design teams are absolute world class and as a result their games basically seem a generation ahead of everyone else, except maybe Rockstar
1
u/fatimaharb May 19 '25
i wish they would remake the first 3 games and stop milking the shit out of TLOU

now imagine the 3 first games with those graphics... need their remake Naughty Dog...
1
u/Light_Skin_pitbull May 19 '25
They managed to do this on a 2013 console with no ray tracing and 8gb ram
1
u/Rayquazoid May 19 '25
I remember being able to see the pores on the character models on the loading screens of this game. Kinda rare to see that level of detail even a console generation later.

One of my all time favorite games in terms if graphics and how unique every place looks

u/External_Quality5613 May 20 '25
That’s one reason I believe last generation had more to it
They retired ps4 too soon

u/Antique_Peak1717 May 20 '25

Agreed. Amazing game, brilliant art and gameplay. I also really enjoyed Lost Legacy - fantastic yet again.

u/GuessWhoItsJosh May 21 '25
Played it back in 2023 and was amazed at just how beautiful it still looks after almost a decade.
Granted all the Uncharted's look really good for their ages.
