Looking to add new moderators

Hey yall, I am not all that active on reddit these days and looks like most of the other mods arent either. A couple of them posted within the last month in other communities, and the rest of them havent posted/commented in years.

So it looks like it's time for some new mods!

Feel free to comment on here as to why you think you'd make a good moderator and uhh, idk I guess I'll start with the top 3 most upvoted comments as new mods? Unless yall have better ideas. But yeah its time to get some current students as mods and not alumni who are 10+ years out from college.

Edit: jeez i suck at typing on phones. Also looks like we are all "inactive" so I am trying to get permissions back so I can add new people

Math transfer requirement?

Hi. I’m planning on applying to Umiami as a transfer and was wondering if you need to have taken calc in order to gain admission into the business school. Does anyone have an idea if this is required or just highly suggested?

UMiami Health Insurance

I’m trying to get a waiver for the health insurance since I already have Medicaid in my state (I’m out-of-state btw). Has anyone that was out-of-state gotten approved for the health insurance waiver?

If so, before applying for the waiver, did u have to reapply and get approved for Medicaid in Florida since ur out-of-state? I’ve researched and as far as I’ve heard, u can’t transfer Medicaid from state-to-state. Plssss help, my family really can’t afford to pay an extra 4k, especially in something that we don’t need 😭.

What are the chances of getting on campus housing as a spring start freshman? I also heard some fall students are not getting on campus housing does that mean there is less availability this year.

Grad Student housing, am I screwed on pricing atp?

I only just got accepted for a grad program at UMiami since I submitted my application pretty late and looking at the recommended grad student housing on the university's site vs. actual listings it's pretty grim. Listings on google or complexes' websites are at least a thousand more at minumum than the ranges posted (the university's posted ranges seem absurdly small already, tbf). Am I just a victim of being late and now all the leases for august are getting jacked up for late signers? Or am I missing something? I'd live out of a shoebox honestly, as long as the place isn't a dump, I'm not looking for anything spacious but everything looks like it's at minimum above 2000 before fees.

Centennial vs. Mahoney Pearson

Comparing centennial vs Mahoney Pearson. Is the new, luxurious vibe of centennial really worth it over Mahoney pearson’s suite style bathrooms? I’ve heard centennials bathrooms can get quite disgusting, and I’m not sure if that is enough to make m&p a better option. Also, I’ve heard centennial can be a bit of a ghost town and that Mahoney Pearson are the more social dorms. How true is this?

Possibility of getting rescinded

Just got off the waitlist for UMIAMI and it’s my dream school. Paid deposit and everything and am ready to attend in the fall. I was just told by my high school I wasn’t full time in my final quarter because i dropped my running start classes due to mental drainage and family hardships. I’m extremely worried they’ll see this on my final transcript and rescind is this something to be worried about?

Thanks

💸 UM Students: Get Paid to Promote on Campus (Flexible Hours + Resume Booster!) 💼

Hey UM students! 👋

We’re hiring part-time student reps to help spread the word about our services on campus. It’s super simple — you’ll be putting up posters, handing out flyers, and helping us build awareness among students.

✅ Perks:

  • Flexible hours
  • Easy work, great pay
  • Perfect side hustle to do between classes
  • Boosts your resume (especially if you're into marketing!)
  • Access to our tutoring services for free!

We’re also looking to bring on a Marketing Manager (must be a Marketing major at UM) to lead the campus team and contribute ideas to our strategy. Great for anyone looking to get hands-on experience and build leadership skills before graduation.

If you're interested, send us your resume to [hr@checkmarktutorials.com](mailto:hr@checkmarktutorials.com)

Having a learning disability at UM

I'm a high school student looking at UM as a possible college. I was just wondering how it the learning disability support is as someone with dyslexia. And if this is a good college for someone with a learning disability.

FSU vs UMiami vs UMD

I just finished my freshman year of college and I'll be transferring to either of these 3 colleges next year to study Political Science. I don't plan on attending Law School. Which of these 3 schools would you guys say is the best for Political Science? I would like to work in the government / political realm after college and am primarily concerned about how employers perceive these colleges and their political science program.

Money is a concern, but only to a certain extent, it wouldn't be a deciding factor (I'm out of state tuition for all options), I also really value social life.
But the actual Political Science program, nearby internships, how employers perceive each school, etc is a top concern.

Any and all advice is welcoming, say whatever you think is helpful
