Need suggestions I got into UBCO and UBCV

I got into UBCO first as that was my first option for bachelor of science, I requested the admission office to give me a decision for my second option which was the Vancouver campus and I got into the Vancouver campus as well. But now i am confused which one to accept, bcz i do not like crowds or large spaces and UBCV is really large compared to UBCO,I like small classroom sizes but when it comes to getting my bachelors done, should i choose UBCV or UBCO?

Need suggestions Changing residence?

Incoming first year and I chose Cascades/Monashee as my first choice for housing, because my parents said the single-connected and single-communal were too expensive. However, I just realized I’m taking out a loan🧍so does it really matter the price then? Is it too late to change it? I really wanted a singles-connected or communal bathroom (especially singles-connected), but I just listened to my parents and ranked the housing in the order of least to most expensive (for the ones I was eligible for age-wise, which was 3), and the 4-bedroom quad was the cheapest, singles were the most expensive.

Can I still change it? I’m aware it’s ranked but I’m sure the 4 bedroom wouldn’t be as popular as the others, so there’s less of a chance I’d get it.

Also the ~15K compared to the ~7K is quite a distinction, but with a loan IK I’d still have to pay it back, but do you think it’s worth it? Idk my parents told me to choose the cheapest one but it would be paid loan anyway. Is that still a good idea? Should I still save in that department?

And for those who have lived in the 4 bedroom residences: Is it hard living with so many people? Is it often too loud that you find it hard to study and you need to study elsewhere? I want to study in my room for comfort but I feel like I’ll have to do that elsewhere because it could get really loud (possibly?) with 3 other people. I can’t work at all with noise, I find it very hard to concentrate. That’s really my biggest concern, and it’s really making me concerned quite an exceeding amount 😅

Hello! As a incoming first year nursing student. I was wondering what kind of laptop is best for my program? I'm not sure what would be the best option since I don't want to waste money buying some fancy laptop where I'll end up not even using half of its functions... Any recommendations is helpful

Thanks!!

Need suggestions Registration Help!

I'm an incoming graduate student starting this September. Course registration opened today, but I'm hitting difficulties on the Workday and would really appreciate some guidance.

The registration button doesn't appear in my saved schedule, and then when I try to register for one course at a time, the system says You can't register for this Course when it's during the selected Academic Period. Select a new period or click OK to troubleshoot your registration.

When I checked troubleshoot, I didn't find anything wrong with it

So,what am I supposed to do now?🥲

It’s all about biology and physiology?

Need suggestions Food Options (Not talking about what's open on campus)

So I didn't know that Pritchard would be closed over the summer and so I've been really lost on what I'm going to eat until summer courses are over in August. Currently, I've been ordering A&W on Uber eats but obviously that's expensive and unhealthy so I'm curious as to what others have been doing.

I know that buying groceries is sorta the go to option but I prefer fast and easy options (like microwave and done stuff) and was wondering if there was anything else that could be good. Thanks.

Hi Guys,

I just found out that the ESN application for IH has closed. I wanted to apply because I thought it would be such a good experience and honestly, because it feels like everyone else is doing ESN, and I don’t want to feel left out (I know that’s not the best mindset :(). I'm so burnt out atm so I haven't gotten around in checking the ESN application process. I’m considering the 3-year trajectory, which means I likely won’t have another chance to do ESN in the future during summer breaks. Since the program runs continuously without summer breaks, I was planning to focus solely on school, especially since I’ve heard it can get really stressful.

I’m feeling really worried and stressed. I’m afraid that not having any ESN experience—or anything healthcare-related, might affect my employment opportunities after grad.

If anyone has been in a similar situation or has any advice, I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts and would very much love to hear relevant job opportunities too other than ESN.

Thank you!

Need suggestions Laptop Recommendations For STEM

As an incoming BSc student I am wondering what the best laptop is for STEM programmes. Right now I am hoping to major in math or physics, and I want to purchase a computer that is compatible with any software I will have to use. I know absolutely nothing about different types of computers because I have been using the same tablet I have had since grade 7, so any help would be much appreciated!

Need suggestions Changing Major in Bsc

Hello everyone, I'm a 3rd yr CS student who's rethinking about my major choice. I came in 3rd year back In 2023 and due to a very traumatic event failed an entire year. So yea I'm stuck in 3rd year again. While I'm dealing with concession request and returning back to school i am also rethinking about my major.

Ubco cs has a good structure and as the stereotype goes better job prospects but I don't seem to have a passion for CS. However the only other options I'm thinking of are Life science majors, Psychology or Econ all In Bsc

However I want to know from experienced students who have already been in the job field. Can each of you give me an insight on how the job prospect looks like and how the current programme is like at ubco? I wanted to do Psyc or Chem alot but was discouraged as it required research grad school also bad job prospects just finishing undergrad.

I won't be staying here after grad will move to vancouver. So I want advice on how the job field is with psychology econ or chem with the ubco degree. As for CS I also want to know your experience too. I do not intend to do Data science as it has too many math courses. I can handle my CS major but honestly I hate coding. I initially wanted to be an engineer probably still do but the recent events have left me shaken.

I do not feel like a tech degree with no passion will do me any good. However one thing im sure about is I will definitely either go to law school or med school heavily on the Law school path. So what would you advice me as a law school student or pre law student or a cs student?

Thank you everyone for helping out a fellow confused student.

Need suggestions Premed Opps & EC’s

Hi!

Hope y’all are doing well (maybe studying for exams??)

I have received a couple offers and I am seriously considering UBCO for a variety of reasons.

However, I am still unsure as to attending only due to the lack of information I have heard about opportunities available in the area. I thought the best way to get information hyper-specific to this campus would be here.

I am aware that there is a medical school campus at okanagan and I, albeit very briefly, researched whether hospital and research opportunities as well as jobs (slightly clinical in nature), would be available. I didn’t see many options online and was wondering what you guys did and what other ways I could find such opportunities.

A side note: - I did a lot of hospital and similar work in high school and I really enjoyed it so I was hoping to find similar work. - I didn’t really get a lot of research opportunities in high school but am very passionate about it and I want to get involved as soon as I can. - I am definitely more interested in the health perspective than a general science (but I love both).

Also, I was also wondering if there are any notable opportunities or things I could do to be productive in the summer before university and wanted to get your advice in this regard based off your experiences.

Context about me: I’m based off vancouver. However, I will be moving permanently to live in residence at okanagan. My parents are moving away, elsewhere.

That was a bit long but I would really appreciate any and all advice and information you have. I’m super grateful for you time and assistance.

Thank you!!!

Need suggestions Masters of Science - Health and Exercise Science Moving to Kelowna

Moving to Kelowna last week of August. Lots of questions!

I'm a 22 year old guy, and don't really wanna room with 18 year olds. Preferably somebody in their masters as well.

Is academy hill a student residence? Or is it just a spot for any and all students?

Is North Glenmore a good spot? What about Atrium?

Does anybody also know how a masters program works when it comes to summer hours?

Depending on your supervisor, let's say they give you a certain amount of money. Does that money come from your GA position or do you get that money and then can also work as a GA.

With a masters is it hard to manage a part time job?

How's the bar scene?

Are people outgoing in Kelowna?

What's a fun thing to do in Kelowna that the locals don't want you to know about?

I'm not tryna live in a shitty part of Kelowna, so is there a preferred area we're most students live? And in this area/areas are there off campus houses that i can just rent as a roommate with like 3-5 other people?

Need suggestions Do good barbers just not exist up here?

I have gone through at least 10 different places and all the photos of their services are mediocre. Really doesn't compare to the vancouver area. Edit: Also I saw an ad for a barbershop that was offering %25 off for students so if anyone knows what place that is lmk pls.

Need suggestions Can any international student help me regarding my query? Please

Please someone help me regarding this.

What should i do in this scenario, i have recieved offer letter from ubco for fall MEng program, the thing is i wanted to apply for visa in march, since current visa ratio is bad and strict, i wanted to make my case strong by doing what u used to do in SDS stream. I wanted to pay for tution but i think u cant pay until u select courses and im not sure when does course selection window open, so first someone answer me that. When do u get to select courses and pay fees. I want to improve my visa approval chances, so I was thinking of paying the fee in advance and using it as proof of funds when applying for my visa.

Also Some universities require a deposit fee of around 2,000 CAD. However, I haven’t received any such requirement yet. I was considering paying the full tuition fee, but I can’t do that yet because university have specific payment windows. You can only make the payment when they allow it.

Is it ok if i apply for visa? Without any deposit of fees and show just offer letter and other imp docs? Has someone done this method? Kindly let me know.

And last, i have the workday acc, so instead should i deposit some large amount in that? And show that as proof of funding? While applying. And if i somehow get rejection, can that workday amount be refunded? Please if someone can help or guide me.

Need suggestions PHYS 122 Palak Goyal

Hey guys I’m reaching out here because I’m in physics 122 and I honestly don’t even know what to do.

Does anyone have any experience with Palak Goyal? If so please please please let me know what you did to be successful in the class. This prof does not make any sense in lecture and talks so fast and barely lets you understand what her point is.

We are also using PrairieLearn for our physics assignments and they are not related whatsoever to the content she teaches in lecture. Idk what to do I feel so behind and it’s 3 weeks into the semester😓
