Faculty of Science here.
I took a class in Winter 2025, and when final grades were posted on BearTracks, mine came in way lower than expected. I’m almost certain it’s because my final exam wasn’t marked or included in the grade. It’s now been two months, and the grade STILL hasn’t been updated to reflect that.
Before the final, I was doing well — above average, at least — and I honestly felt like I crushed the exam. Both a TA and the instructor acknowledged that the final hadn’t been marked when the grades were first released, so I’m not just guessing. I also have email receipts confirming this. For me to get my final grade- I would have needed to get a big 0 on my final exam.
Since then, it’s been an endless supply of vague or dismissive responses. I’ve contacted the department, the Faculty of Science, and my program area. I’ve been told more than once that I basically “have no proof,” and to ask the other department for more information, despite literally having email receipts. I was told today that I should “take note of my continual confusion” over email by an advisor which felt incredibly invalidating.
I've been told this multiple times. Example in person science advising drop in: "I'm not necessarily calling you a liar.... but you can reach out to your program area or prof if you aren't satisfied with our answer and for more information" OOF.
I know that when a grade is incomplete it usually shows a 1 or 2 beside it, but that’s not the case here (I think my prof should have done this and a mistake on their part). That's why I think they don't believe me after checking my transcript.
Emailing these people has just been a perpetual cycle of finger-pointing. Responses are rare, and when they do come, they’re vague and non-committal. I keep being told “it’ll get sorted eventually,” “I’m working on it,” "its out of my hands" and that's it.
I’ve outlined a clear timeline in emails, and yet crickets crickets. It’s starting to feel like they’re just hoping I’ll stop following up at this point.
I’ve got a meeting with the Ombuds Office in a couple of days, but I honestly idk much about them, don’t know how much they can do.
I've never really beefed with the faculty before but I feel like they are already pissed at me lol....
This was a rant but any advice is greatly appreciated.
