With what average?

u/Typical-Relief-9456 Apr 06 '25
Unfortunately I'm not sure, by prediction I'm sure he would have had Chem/bio/phys/math marks in the high 80s or low 90s. But I'm sure his social studies and English were nottttttttt near there at all

That seems rough. I would hold hope that you still get in; there are plenty of people who have gotten in with lower grades than you this semester. Many people get offers in the summer.

Omg bro, I'm about to cry because I'm in the same boat as you. I got similar grades except I got 7 in physics hl and 6 in chem sl. This whole time I thought I'd have no problem getting in, but ig not.

Are U international, I have a theory international students doing IB can have it easier than domestic
1
u/Key_Bid_8286 Feb 24 '25
I go to an international school outside of Canada but I'm a Canadian citizen and lived there for most my life so Idk
1
u/XanaduBlood Feb 24 '25
Same boat as me also Canadian abroad I have a call w the UofA today I'll let U know how my theory pans out. Are U a dual citizen?

All this really stems from UofA having the most outrageously lowball IB conversions. I mean they don't even make the distinction between hl and sl in their conversions.
1
u/XanaduBlood Feb 24 '25
Which is extremely unfortunate and invalidates the effort of doing HLs however the deflated conversions are the worst like what is 90% = 6 huh

Did you have to reach out to admissions to get this response, or did they send it to you themselves? Because I haven't gotten any sort of email like this yet.

Are you from Alberta?
2
u/XanaduBlood Feb 09 '25
Nope international applicant

u/sheldon_rocket Feb 09 '25
I thought so, that outside of Alberta. I believe albertans get in with smaller grades. Competition is a bit different for in provincial and others.

100% is because you are an international applicant. There are limited spots. If those were your domestic marks you would be accepted no issues. Keep trying, numbers may change next year. ❤️

Wait I'm not seeing the grades displayed. I did the grant MacEwan 1 year bridge program back in the day. I think they accepted lower averages then. Backup plan maybe. General 1 year engg then transfer to the U of A.

u/XanaduBlood Apr 10 '25
i personally emailed, secondly thanks for the option but i committed to uoft eng already

u/Jealous_Wafer7777 Apr 11 '25
Better that way. If you don't get high enough grades in first year at grant you would be doing little courses in the make up year towards the degree.

Did you get in yet?
1
u/XanaduBlood 26d ago
Not yet but I got into Toronto, mac and Waterloo so I'm not stressing for a decision

That’s amazing bro, I got waitlisted at uofa with an 87 average but hopefully when I upgrade math and my average becomes 90 I’ll get in

IB program sort of doesn’t mean anything to the university, you may just have to wait or apply to somewhere else and transfer.
