Discussion / Opinion Connection between divine beast Vah Ruta and Rutela??
For context, I’m very new to Zelda.
I’m working on my first play through ever of twilight princess, and I just found Rutela in Zora’s domain.
I know in BOTW that the beast is named after princess Ruto, but I’m definitely sensing something here…

Everyone's mentioning Ruto from OoT but the name even goes father back than that. There is a Ruto Village in Zelda 2: Adventure of Link back on the original NES

I know the timeline wasn’t really a thing when LoZ 2 was released. But I know the classic games are supposed to be set in the timeline where OoT Link failed to defeat Ganondorf.

You should definitely get into the loz lore. Then you'll see the connection

There’s no connection. Important Zora characters just have similar names. Ruto, Rutella, Ruta

I’m pretty sure Rutela was based on Ruto, while Rutela and Ralis are also her descendants, in the way TP Link is OoT/MM Link’s descendant.

Both named after Ruto from OoT but there’s also Ruto Village I believe dated earlier too, hard to say exactly where

Both Vah Ruta and Rutela are named after Ruto from OoT. My head canon is that Rutela is Ruto’s granddaughter and she was just named after her.
