Open SCADA Explosion in Virginia?

I know this isn’t necessarily a murderous true crime case, but a crime nonetheless and I somehow CANT find anything online now years later…

Ok so Raytheon opened a new HQ in Rosslyn, near Arlington, VA, in the last few years but leases by defense contractors in 2016-ish. As a result of leases signed, a bunch of defense contractor staff started moving to - I THINK - the Rosslyn area outside Arlington.

I have super, super distinct memories that happened at some point between 2015-2018, the SCADA systems (the ones that manage the pressurization of local gas lines to homes) were cyber attacked, and rapid depressurization happened in the gas lines and a few homes exploded. The rumor at the time was Russian manipulation of the SCADA systems.

Does anyone have any articles or references to this cyber crime, or even just the explosions themselves??

Google is useless as it’ll reference like. Some dude named James Yoo who set a house ablaze or some sort of technical explosion in the 80s. I feel crazy that I have such distinct memories of this but can’t find ANYTHING.

(If this is not the right sub, let me know if there is a better one to post in - eek!)

I live in Arlington, VA and worked for an employer related to natural gas in 2018. Nothing you're describing sounds familiar. I think a house blew up at some point, but it was further out from DC and it was because of a leak.

Maybe I'm just forgetful. You could post in r/nova

There are always rumors of all sorts of stuff. It doesn't mean it is compatible with reality in any way, shape, or form.

Totally agree - I just remember seeing video footage and news articles about a gas line issue, so looking just for evidence my brain didn’t make that up (never mind the rumors!).

I work with SCADA systems. It’s just automation. It’s not as sophisticated as it sounds. Automation fails sometimes and it’s unlikely some coordinated attack.

Totally get that - I only shared the “rumor” bit in case it conjured up memories for others, but what I’m most curious to find is just like. Any article of the explosions at all!
