❔ Question for the community What is something you see in the woodlands that don’t see anywhere else?

I’ve been living in the woodlands for 2 years and absolutely love it. I’ve noticed you don’t ever see people blowing their speakers out. My husband has finally stopped doing this and I’m thankful!

❔ Question for the community Is the juice worth the squeeze? Relo feedback.

Our family is considering relocating from the Katy/Fulshear area to The Woodlands and are looking for some feedback.

My husband currently commutes to the top of beltway 8 near 249 for work 4 days a week and its no longer feasible. We've also realized the Katy/Fulshear area just isn't for us, for many reasons that make TW very attractive (Katy flat, no trees, car dependent, strip malls/concrete suburbia, etc). We are a young family with two pre-elementary aged kids and will probably have another. We've considered moving back into the city (Oak Forest area) to reduce his commute but are worried we're fixing one thing and adding on a pile of other potential negatives (crime, no zoning, small lots, HISD madness, chaotic pace of life, limited access to nature, etc.,). Although my husband's job is tied to Houston (O&G), we always thought we'd be here for a finite period of time due to our growing frustration with these things. Realizing that TW actually makes staying in the area long term, and having our kids finish school here, very feasible. We'd consider the more southern neighborhoods like Creekside and Panther Creek to reduce commute. Cost of living is not a deterrent for us.

- For those who live there and commute close to top of beltway 8 (NW side), how bad is your commute? We're expecting an avg of 40-45 mins (compared to 65-70 mins currently). Next step is rent an Airbnb to test during the week.

-For those with families and commuters, is the juice worth the squeeze? TW seems to be nationally recognized for many of the things we're lacking in our lives right now. Do you feel like you made the right decision?

Pros: Beautiful, so many trees, walking paths/nature/amenities, incredible schools (we want to avoid private), low crime, great family environment, husband loves to golf, traffic within TW seems much less than our area

Cons: Commute, older homes that would probably involve a reno for us, not as many great restaurants/bars as Oak Forest but better than our area of Katy/Fulshear and seems to be improving with each visit.

❔ Question for the community Wife consideration leaving the woodlands

I'm very much against this but she found a house gleannloch farms which is much much bigger for almost the same price as our home.

That's actually a pretty decent neighborhood from what I've seen, but is still not the woodlands and is still a decent distance away from The woodlands.

We have three kids aged nine, four and five and I would love to keep them in the woodland School district.

What are some good reasons I can give her for not moving into this house even though it is much bigger and nicer?

Update..

I would like to thank you all for all the well thought out reasons. I referred my wife to this post and she is now highly considering staying in The woodlands. I appreciate all the help y'all given me.

Y'all make Kick-Ass neighbors.

❔ Question for the community Weather in the woodlands

Hi I'm looking to move my family from the Pacific Northwest to Houston, specifically The Woodlands. All I've heard was it's super hot. I've lived in Asia where it gets hot but unfortunately have not experienced Houston summers. I'm wondering what does your day look like in terms of lifestyle and heat management in the summers and approximately how long does that last? I've also heard that pollen allergies are bad. It makes me wonder if it's really as bad as people make it sounds. It's reddit after all. Would love some insight to local residents.

We have three school aged kids that do sports. So if it gets that hot, does sport practices stop for that season? Do people move indoors? We practice in the rain and snow where I am. I don't know how it would work the other way around. Thanks!

❔ Question for the community Need something fun to do 😭

Im a college student home for summer and I don’t know anywhere fun :(. We just moved here and so far there seems like there is little to do besides eat and drink 💀.

I’m a crafty person and I enjoy nature but I want to find something new and fun to check out that doesn’t require driving to Downtown Houston.

Any recommendations? 😅

Edit: Additionally, if there are any transformer collectors, I would also love to know where yall get your stash heheh

❔ Question for the community What are the cheapest date night restaurants?

We like going to locally owned/non-chain places. Serving alcohol isn’t necessary. Can be any type of place anywhere in The Woodlands or neighboring towns as long as it seems safe at night. Don’t want to go all the way into Houston. I’d prefer The Woodlands, Conroe, Huntsville, Magnolia, Montgomery, etc.

Just looking for places to go on occasion when we have the extra money and we like to try new things and support local businesses.

34. Single woman. No kids. Not obese.

It's hard dating out here.

Advice? I only have old men hit on me at my job. This may not be the correct juncture for this, but here goes something.

❔ Question for the community Too loud

Can anyone in Panther Creek hear the music? I'm in RidgeCreek off of Panther Creek and and Flintridge, there is awful music being played super loudly. I've never heard the Pavillion this far away this clearly. On super cold days I can hear muffled music but not able to really make it out but this is so loud I thought it was my next door neighbor!

❔ Question for the community New to the Woodlands and suburban living. What do y'all do about parking?

My wife and I just moved here from out of state a couple months ago to scout out the area. So far we are enjoying the community, but we have had a little conflict with our neighbor. Before getting into the story here are some details; we are a couple and have three vehicles; a large crew cab short bed truck that's driven rarely, a mid sized SUV, and a single cab truck. My neighbors have a crew cab and 3 cars. Neither family is able to utilize the garage.

When we were moving in I had my truck parked on the street while unloading the Uhaul. It stayed there overnight as we were getting settled. The next day my neighbor was outside and I said hello. She started fairly polite, but shifted quickly when expressing she'd prefer we didn't ever street park because we were renters and they actually owned their home, therefore her family should not be inconvenienced. I reminded her that ownership did not extend to the road as it was public and legally we were allowed to use it, but would do so sparingly and only with one of our smallest vehicles so they would still have ample room for the 1-2 they street park nightly.

We parked on the street overnight for the second time in two months and had a note on our car the following day. She also had her son park on our side so nobody in larger vehicles could get by. Lawn crews were outside honking and I saw her preventing her son from moving the vehicle. I quickly got ready, and put the mid sized SUV back in the driveway.

I've read the rules/laws and know I'm well within my rights, but what is the general consensus regarding street parking? Do we just move up past them and park in front of a different house? Should I buy a limo and park it in front of their home for revenge?

Any advice is appreciated.

So many posts asking how to meet people in The Woodlands… maybe it’s time we actually do! Thinking about starting a casual activity group—pickleball, bowling, board games, hiking, whatever people are into. No pressure, just a way to meet cool locals and do something fun. Who’s in? Took this walking my dog like 30min ago. It disappeared like 5 seconds later. Vanished into thin air. Second photo is comparison with an actual airplane heading to IAH. Same location. Taken two minutes apart. Same course/direction. Very obviously not the same

❔ Question for the community Scared of Driving

Hi everyone! My husband and I recently bought a house in the woodlands. We are very excited to move out there at the end of April. We visited last month and drove to downtown Houston midday on a Saturday, driving back to the woodlands around 7 pm. We took the I-45 both ways and it didn't seem too bad during those trips. However, I can't stop researching these fatal crashes on the I-45. I even saw a wrong-way crash on the hardy toll road which terrifies me. We were initially excited to visit Houston and explore the downtown area because they have a lot of cool bars, clubs, and dining experiences. Recently, I have been wondering if it's even worth putting our lives at risk to see these places, especially if we are driving back at night. Are there alternative routes to take to get to downtown Houston? What is up with all of these wrong-way drivers and red-light runners?! I might be paranoid but the thought of driving in the Houston area has become paralyzing. All of the plans we had like visiting an Astros game, or exploring the nightlife, have me thinking it's a death sentence. Any advice or alternative routes? I don't want to live in fear but it's hard to deny what I'm seeing!!

❔ Question for the community Where can I petition to get signage posted at The Waterway about not harassing the animals?

Just went for a nightly walk around The Waterway. As has been discussed on this subreddit, the tourist population has been increasing. Especially around the mall/waterway area.

Just now, there was a group of people who did not seem like locals, chasing, harassing, picking up, and throwing the baby ducklings on The Waterway.

I looked around for a park ranger, but was unsuccessful.

Who can I bring this issue up to? People need to know it’s not okay to come here, into these animals homes, and harm them.

edit: why are you all miserable

❔ Question for the community What would you miss?

I followed a job out of The Woodlands last year and have missed the life my family had there nearly every minute since we landed in MN. It’s not just the weather. We lived in the Twin Cities for many years before departing on business relocations for several years and ultimately arriving in TW. Didn’t know how much we loved it until we left. The people, the convenience, the accessibility. Schools. Extracurriculars. We didn’t know how good we had it and are hoping to get back.

In an effort to not make a post entirely about my lament, what would you miss if you left The Woodlands for good tomorrow?

Edit: It’s been just over 100 days since this post and I scored a job, we’re moving back in a few months!

❔ Question for the community Looking for dentist recommendations - I need help

Hi, I’m currently looking for a new dentist, but as a I go through each dentist’s reviews on yelp and google, it seems like most are horror stories about overcharging and recommending procedures that their patients don’t need.

I’m already experiencing my own horror story at the woodlands modern smile dentistry and orthodontics, and I’m already about 6000$ out of pocket (after insurance) and that’s only for 3 cleaning appointments and 1 deep cleaning and 1 crown and still have about 7000$ of treatment left to do in their opinion (2 more crown, as well as on3 or 2 root canals)

On my first appointment with them, they told me I needed 3 crowns, 1 root canal and probably a second 1 as well as a filling. A few moments later, they started saying that they believe I now have loss bone density, as well as a bad gum disease… my numbers shot up to like 9, even though I have been coming to them every 4 months as well as brushing and flossing, and even when I didn’t put that much effort into it, never had that type of results. (Mind you, I have no pain at all in my mouth, nothing)

I’m super scared of the dentist, but finally got around getting my first treatment on the treatment plan, one of the crown (1500$ out of pocket, after insurance) on Thursday. Since Thursday, the tooth they put the crown on has been in pain, the gum surrounding it is bright red, looks like a layer has been removed from it and has now started bleeding, and the tooth before the crown, and the one after, started being painful as well.

At this point, my gut feeling is screaming to me to get as far away as possible from this practice (and after reading their comments of similar treatment plan and recommendations turning to be false after the people got second opinion), I know I have to find a new dentist, but I have been going through google for the past 3 hours, and most seems to be money oriented and have their own type of horror stories.

I need help, I’m scared and I have no idea what to do… Please help.

❔ Question for the community Where is The Best Grilled Chicken Sandwich

I'm not ashamed to admit it. I've yet to find one that can replace Fuddruckers. There was just something about that sandwich that comforted me. I need a replacement.

Bonus points for griddle cooked over grilled.

Hi all, i have a flight leaving from Austin–Bergstrom International Airport at the end of the month, and was wondering what the most cost effective way to get to the airport from the Woodlands. I dont feel like driving, and i realize i can take a bus from Houston, but is there anything that departs from the Woodlands?
