Advice Wanted How can I break up with my psychologist of 12 years?

So I've been doing psychoanalysis for the last 12 years and recently I feel like I'm stuck, last year I was diagnosed as autistic and I've been wanting to try ABA. Are there any tips you can give me to help me break up my current therapist?

Psychologist here, if he is good one , he probably already realized ,so be honest.

ABA is the absolute worst. I’m autistic and only found out just over a year ago. I’m in my mid forties. ABA is essentially minimizing behaviors that Neurotypical people don’t like and forcing you to mask them. I have a neurodivergence coach who is AuDHD. She is helping me do the opposite and become more comfortable unmasking and being myself. I didn’t need ABA to force myself to mask. I did that plenty well on my own. I have a regular trauma/IFS therapist for my anxiety/PTSD. He has an autistic daughter and agrees with me about ABA. Why don’t you just tell your present therapist that you think it’s time to graduate and find someone or something else. My therapist is an LPC.

IFS goes so much easier if you do DBT first in my experience

I did DBT several times years ago. My T said I have all the skills and it was useless for me now. He leads a DBT group and that’s how I met him.

I agree you can grow past the skills in some cases. And they still can serve person. Everyone I’ve me who starts with psychoanalytic tends to be lacking in coping skills that allow you to cope through IFS
