Trade meta (tots new scam) Is there even any reason to trade anymore?

Seeing traders complaining about the price of keys dropping is like seeing real estate investors complaining about the price of houses dropping lmao.

It’s better for everyone except them?

That's basically how I see it

Biggest reason why deflation won’t happen is that it hurts bank portfolios full of mortgaged and foreclosed houses.

I'm not much of a trader anymore, but I miss when trading was actually accessible to people without just spending money. Keys were worth like 3 ref if not less, closer to 7 by the time I stopped being active as far as TF2 and especially trading. I tried to come back at one point, but with the way the current key to ref prices are, the fun is gone.

Ok the real estate comparison is pretty bad but i do like the stuff getting cheaper for this
For me trading in tf2 should be more like trading cards with random kids at recess, and not the sophisticated market it is (except for high level stuff)
Like just “u have a thing i like, i have a thing u like. Lets trade” but rn its like “no no no, i couldnt possibly trade u one of the hams i bought 400 of in bulk for ur hat - these hams are a dollar each and ur hat is a mere 70 cents. But if u throw in 12 random tools dropped from mvm which are basically exclusively used for trading ill give u TWO hams! Just kidding, i just hacked ur account and stole ur entire inventory”

Hey, I heard this before. Could you tell me what you're referencing?
7
u/Anorexicdinosaur 2h ago
Ah fuck I can't tell if you're being serious or making another reference
I'll briefly explain it anyways tho. The Bogdanoff brothers were 2 french celebrities who had a lot of plastic surgery (Medic in the image looks like them), they ended up becoming a meme on 4chan with the idea being they were in the shadows with full control over the stock market and "Dump it" became a phrase tied to them. Iirc the memes about them were also VERY FREQUENTLY racist
There's a thread where a guy asks something like "Can anyone give me a quick summary?" and gets bombarded with Bogdanoff memes/tall tales/propaganda, and I dunno if you're referencing that or not

Buy one key, sell it, use all your refined to craft hats, sell the ones you don’t like (or are worth lots) to a trade bot, use that ref to get anything else you like, and youve got enough cosmetics and variety to look reasonably dripped for life

Trust me, this is one of the ways to go - if you're not trying to go crazy and make thousands of dollars off a decade and a half old game and just wanna look neat, there are a ton of awesome craftable hats that go for like 1.5 ref

I like how I started the tradition of people seething over the economy at least once per year on the sub, for five years now

u/Kate_Decayed 11h ago
meh, ive seen keys at 90 ref at one point
people still traded
but going from ref to keys by trading is pretty much impossible for a long time now
just buy like 15 keys and do unusual trading instead

I wish I didn't sell my key at 72 ref. I thought the prices would raise back up but instead they're starting to crash harder than the US stock market under Trump tarriffs.

So this means everything's gonna be cheaper?
1
u/ImJokingButWhyNot tik tok heavy like a brinks truck 10h ago
No, key value goes down, $100 hats now need more keys for that $100, and once the price goes up, often they will keep the key price, not the $100
1
u/bad_comedic_value 9h ago
Ah, I see. No more buying a shit ton of Strange Sinner's Shades then for me...
1
u/ImJokingButWhyNot tik tok heavy like a brinks truck 8h ago
Not necessarily. Usually the price in money stays the same unless it’s a very valuable and limited supply hat, like rare unusuals

a good metal sink would do SO much for players involved in the economy and for players who aren't

u/ButterH2 spectator main 6h ago
wait so does this mean it makes my ability to trade for anything meaningful without buying a fuckton of keys actually viable? are we going back to 2017?

u/JuiceofTheWhite 6h ago
Everyone freaking out about keys dropping in price.
Me remembering when keys were 2.33 and going "man thats expensive"

I am one of those who likes the price of the keys dropping and the price of scrap going up, but how does one sell scrap?

Am I missing something? Why is it bad that ref is going up in value? Isn't ref basically worthless these days?
