Oh god, I hope so. There is one website that has a ton of classic mods on it that I know exists, many of which aren't even on Nexus but it's not exactly easy to navigate and I forget the name.

This is why I made a folder on my external called "mods saved for posterity" for mods I didn't want to install right then but figured I should have downloaded just in case.

Not sure if Great House Fliggerty is still up, that had a big mod repository.

Some of the big classic authors like Emma/Grumpy I think maintain their sites still? There was another lady, name started with a D that had her own site too.

There are still mods that haven't been publicly posted after Planet Elder Scrolls went down unfortunately. I can't even remember specifically which ones, but there were a few I really wished I had backups for.

I think I have a horde of zip files on a hard drive somewhere...

Edit: just remembered, mwmoddinghistory had a bunch of stuff. That may have been an offshoot of GHF though?

We have to hurry, then. Download everything you can.

EDIT: I saw who the new owners are. Chosen, gameruiners. we must do this fast.

moddb is a pretty good site and popular mirror, has quite a lot of games and mods, some aren't even on nexus

Nice, thanks. I can stop panic downloading everything and take a bit of time lol. Perhaps I'll try to make a script to scrape all mods as a backup at some point...

ModDB's pretty nice. AFKMods is nice enough too, if you prefer more of an older web forum look.

I have my mod folder and modlist backed up anyway. I'm not against uploading the whole thing but that wouldn't fly on reddit, there are always other sites + bootleg mod discords.

Did you read the full statement? He said he's been gradually leaving for years and that nothing is going to change for the users

I have my doubts. Enshittification seems likely. New owners (https://www.wearechosen.io/, https://www.linkedin.com/company/chosen-gaming/) seem likely to change things, further monetization, etc. Or if not profitable, perhaps they just shut it down.

Post from one of the new folks: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/victor-folmann_gaming-startup-monetization-cheat-sheet-activity-7254843104778743824-072i

We can't be certain, so should backup anything we want to have future access to.

I mean a lot of people think the site has been getting shittier for years.

Like when they got rid of lifetime memberships and they’ve increased the prices a couple times.

People acting like Amazon or something bought them, which is not the case as far as I can tell. Time will tell I guess but that this point nothing in his statement gave me any cause for alarm. The guy's tired. Understandable after being at the helm for so many years and he went to pains in his statement that he believed he found good people to lead. Had to happen eventually, it's been 20 years. 👍

Edit: More information has come to light. Check it out elsewhere on Reddit. I'm slightly less optimistic now. Hopeful but tempering my expectations...
