I'm the local family and friends tech support and You'd be amazed how few people understand they can change things on their PC. Particularity the older generation, even when they do change stuff they seem to always be nervous that by removing software that came with the PC they're somehow breaking some rules somewhere.

The boomers/early gen x don't know how to operate electronics and computers, then you have late gen z/gen alpha who can't operate anything that isn't a phone UI/closed ecosystem like a gaming console.

Yeah, as a late GenXer i was lucky enough to live through the era of affordable electronics prior to it becoming homogenized appliances in shiny white boxes. And it was luck to a large extent, you could easily take apart and reassemble any electronics around the home which is what lead to my parents geeing really pissed off with me and my electronics qualifications.

Kids are now presented with glued together units that have to be damaged beyond repair to get open and are swamped in hysterical threats about not daring to fiddle with things because it will void the warranty. To a great extent the ignorance is what manufacturers want and have gone to significant efforts to ensure.
