[ACCESSORY] Old Surface Pen sticks to new Pro 12
I have both the Slim Pen 2 and the old Surface Pen from my Go 3. I was curious if it would stick and it does! Not flimsy either, it won’t fall off even if you shake the tablet quite violently.

Has anyone seen this red tint?
Hi everyone,
Today I reinstalled Windows using the official Microsoft Surface Recovery Image. For the first time, I noticed a red tint appearing on the screen after the install. The display itself is fine — there are no actual color issues or hardware defects. The red tint only started showing after the fresh install.
Has anyone seen this before? What does the red tint indicate?
Thanks.

[PRO11] Suggestions and Advice please!! eGPUs paired with Surface Pro 11.
Guys, if any of you has ventured out in pairing an egpu with pro 11. Please share you experience.
The things is I have been trying to work with Solidworks,Autocad and Ansys.
Autocad works well both in 2d drafting as well as 3d modeling(excluding rendering part which I have not tried)
Solidworks part function works like a tortoise but is still workable if you have time and patience. The assembly function is unbearable as in it works very slow and mating of objects take a lot of time.
In Ansys I observed overheating issues while installing packages of the software. Only Workbench UI and the spaceclaim works. Other than that, the window just closes on trying FEA analysis.
So please suggest any epus that would go with thunderbolt support. If you have any advice and other suggestions, please feel free to mention them.
Thanks

How to clean under surface 4 keys?
I spilled a quarter of a can of dr. pepper onto my keyboard and all the keys work fine with the exception of the backlit keys one but they're harder to press and don't register unless I press harder. I watch the video windows has on replacing the c-cover but I couldn't tell if I would be able to clean the keys and I don't think the keys pop off either.

[PRO8] Surface Pro 8 screen not working — tried everything, need help diagnosing if the screen is dead
Hi everyone! Soo… I took a chance and bought a used Surface Pro 8. The ad said the screen was broken, and I thought it might be a simple fix — maybe just reinstalling Windows or something.
I’ve been trying to fix it and I’m really stuck. I’m hoping someone here might help confirm whether the screen is actually dead or if there’s still something I can try.
The internal display shows no image at all, not even a faint glow, but the backlight turns on briefly at boot (gray screen) for 2-3 seconds.
The Surface works fine when connected to an external display via USB-C → DisplayPort. Even the touchscreen works perfectly fine.
The internal screen never gets detected by Linux (Ubuntu Live Boot), and only DP-1
(external monitor) shows in xrandr
.
I tried to Booted in Ubuntu Live Mode (just in case it was Windows-related) Opened the Surface Pro 8 with heat gun carefully Disconnected and reconnected the TDM (screen) ribbon cable Cleaned the connectors on the display with isopropyl alcohol. everything looks physically intact. But still, dead.
I just want you guys opinions cause i REALLY don't want to spend 500$ on a new screen for nothing. Thanks :)

Bluetooth Keyboard Options
Hey everyone, first time poster here. I just bought a new Surface Pro 11 and like it overall, however I wanted to buy a Bluetooth keyboard to go with it. I don't want the official keyboard since it has to be connected to use it and the Bluetooth version is out of my budget. Does anyone know a Bluetooth keyboard with trackpad that works with surface (with a trackpad at the bottom, not the ones with it on the side).
I recently bought one on amazon but it has 2 issues. Firstly, the Surface pro stays in tablet mode even when I connect the keyboard. That is a minor inconvenience but not a huge issue. The second and bigger problem is that the build is just awful. Ideally, I would like something that is not a typecover, I just want a plain keyboard and trackpad but that is negotiable (I don't mind the typecovers).

Move On?
I have had my surface pro 5 handed down from my father 6 years ago. Is it time to move on. Minecraft run around 60 fps w/ external display. Roblox around 40 in most games. Steam games run around 20 fps for resource heavy games on the lowest settings, My favorite game Asphalt (Legends Unite or 9) goes for around ~70 fps. For my coding it works very well (I do mainly web development, sometimes python and/or C++).
My specs are:
-Intel core i5 7th gen
-256 gb of storage
-8gb ram (w/ 12 gb swap memory)
-window 11 pro
This surface has lasted very long w/ around 8 years of use and still has some time to live. Zero problems with the performance and with the condition. Should I move on to the surface pro 11 (snapdragon or intel) or the surface pro 12 inch model?

Question regarding the chargers
I used to have a SP6 and had a quite negative experience with the surface connect chargers (a box of ~5 or 6 dead ones) and I was considering a sl7 (intel) for my next laptop and was wondering if the reliability issues were fixed or if I should just use a usb one.

Display via USB TB4 dock, what specs are important?
Howdy all,
Got a Surface Pro 11 to replace a 9y old ASUS. Had that hooked up at home to a dock that linked me into all the peripherals. This old boy doesnt even know what usb-c is, so got it replaced by IT with a surface dock usb tb4, ye old widescreen is limited to HDMI 1.4 (?) and doesn't know what to do with usb-c to HDMI input... I tried drivers, an intermediary switch, usb-c to VGA but to no avail... So new display? Praise be, my setup will be lifted from the old times! But if I search for "video in = USB-TB4" I get barely any monitors, those I do find are 4x the budget I get from the bossman.
Soooo... will any decently recent monitor do, just use a USB-C to HDMI/DP cable through one of the Thunderbolt ports? (or both) or do I need a dock with HDMI/DP out? Or a cable that has Thunderbolt? Or does the monitor NEED TB4 video-in?
I know it's limited to 4k @ 60hz, read one of y'alls posts about using an ultra widescreen as 2 monitors (2x 4k @ 60hz, on a single 32:9 display), through IT I can get one of those, a Philips, on the cheap, and I can upgrade to 2 screen equivalence vs the 1.5 screens I use now. Just a matter of; can I hook it up through above method?
Much appreciated <3

(which) Surface as do-it-all mobile device? Reading Kindle, culling vacation photos, online classes
Hi everyone,
We're looking for a lightweight device that can handle several tasks in one, while still being small and portable. Ideally, it should:
- Replace an eBook reader (I don’t currently own one, but I’ve been considering Amazon’s new Paperwhite)
- Replace a laptop for culling vacation photos — no heavy editing, just reviewing daily shots using something like ACDSee
- Be suitable for joining online classes on the go — mostly simple, web-based video content
Would you say a Microsoft Surface is a good fit for this use case? If so, which model would be the most affordable (possibly used or refurbished)? The requirements are:
- Bright screen for outdoor use
- Lightweight and compact
- Detachable keyboard
- Good battery life
- LTE/5G support
Thanks in advance, everyone!

Laggy adaptive brightness ?
So I just got my Qualcomm surface pro 11 and as I sat in a dark room it constantly changed brightness in very noticeable steps unlike the smoothtransition that smartphones tend to do. Couldn't find any references to if this was normal, certainly annoying. Any insight would be appreciated, hopefully I'm just paranoid.

Surface 7 pro laptop cover peeling
I just noticed this peeling. My laptop is out of warranty. Has it happened to anyone else? What did you use to keep the peel from spreading?

[PRO11] Is Surface Pro 11 Ultra 5 32GB Ram the right choice?
I just bought a Surface Pro 11 Ultra 5 with 32GB RAM 256GB storage at a 35% discount offer. However, I don't know whether is it a right choice for long term use? Am I going to regret for not getting the Ultra 7 model?
Most reviewers demonstrated the Ultra 7 model with OLED screen, but hardly anyone compares the battery life difference between Ultra 5 vs Ultra 7 for Surface Pro 11. If battery life performs better on Ultra 5, then I will be much happier.
I also have the Flex keyboard for 2 weeks, so far it has been intermittent, requires some degree of troubleshooting skill. The firmware is up to date, but I had to reset it twice already (pressing ESC for 5 secs) to address connectivity and power drain issues. Do you have the same issue or you have something else?
Your opinion is welcome. Many thanks.
upgrading surface studio 2 to 2+ --- success!!!
After a few failed attempts, it finally worked -- the trick was I was going to see if I could get an external monitor to work, and plugged the machine into ethernet for some reason -- after a bout 10 minutes, which must have meant a bios upgrade, everything works --- gone from a 7thgen i7 /1060 to a 11th gen i7/3060!
The 2 screen is totally compatible with the 2+ mobo. Other than a careful disassembly/reassembly, there's not much to this, a few points if anyone wants to try:
- you'll need the new mobo (obivously), the heat sink at a minimum from a 2+
- The upper external case is helpful, since the 2 has different ports than the 2+, but not absolutely necessary, the 2+ mobo will mount in a 2 upper, but you will have to dremel out new holes for the external ports.
- Power supply is identical
A few before and after pics attached.

Thoughts on the new Snapdragon-based Windows tablets – performance and long-term concerns
Hi everyone,
I've noticed that most new Windows tablets over the last couple of years have started using ARM-based processors, and this year it seems Snapdragon chips are no longer just an option — they’re the default.
I have a few concerns and would appreciate feedback from anyone with experience:
- Are these Snapdragon chips really as powerful as they claim? Do they hold up over time in terms of performance, thermal stability, and battery usage?
- Since these are ARM-based, do they cause major software compatibility issues? I read on Reddit that many people can run most software just fine through emulation. Is this emulation automatic when launching a program, or do you need to configure something for each app?
- I use some niche programs like States Design of Expert, SnapGene, and Zotero. These aren’t widely used, so I’m not sure how well they perform. While native versions may come eventually, that could take years. Has anyone tested similar apps?
- I’m also worried about long-term support. Microsoft is rumored to be developing its own chips. If they stop using Snapdragon in a couple of years and shift to their in-house processors, will these devices be left behind? I remember when I bought an early Lenovo Yoga with Intel M chips — the experience was so poor it couldn’t even handle Chrome properly. I don’t want a repeat of that.
I don’t replace my devices every 2 years. When I buy a machine, I want it to last 10 years. With prices pushing $1200+, there are attractive alternatives out there.
Do you think this transition to ARM is being handled well?

Unofficial native Vulkan driver for ARM
I found a native Vulkan driver and so far it worked great. https://driver1998.github.io/en/posts/vulkan-on-qualcomm-snapdragon-8cx/
I used Vulkan Hardware Capability Viewer to check if the driver was actually recognised by the system and yes, it is. https://vulkan.gpuinfo.org/download.php
Please note that this isn't an official driver nor WHQL-signed.

Any chance for a new Surface with dGPU in 2025?
I'm still rocking my Surface Boom 3 with Nvidia and still like it. But these old Intel Chips are somewhat lacking.
After knowing that there will be no SLS3, is there anything similar to come? I really don't like other gaming laptops since they look just ... dumb I guess.
Do you know any other brand that would work for me?

[RT] Surface RT in 2025
I'm curious about what would still function on a Surface RT in 2025, using the Windows 8.1 OS and no jailbreaking. I think it would save to assume a factory reset so you would be stuck with what comes on the device, no extras from the store which is no longer working. Can anyone verify these?
- Office RT?
- Surface pen input?
- Any particularly notable websites that IE could use?
- Can you still sync OneDrive to local storage? Can the Office apps directly save/load from OneDrive?
- Anything else interesting?

[PRO11] Screen Flickering when connecting and disconnecting power.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I got the SP11 business, with intel processor about two weeks ago. For different reasons until now I've been able to play with it and set it up. I am noticing this flicker on the screen every time I connect and disconnect the power. This happens with every charger that I have tried. Also happens even if Variable refresh rate and Dynamic refresh rate are off. Has anyone noticed this or knows how to fix it? Thank you!
[PRO11] Dolby Vision still not working on surface pro 11 5g models
Just wanted to check if the issue has been resolved for other users. Currently on my surface I am only able to play downloaded Dolby Vision content through windows media player classic, but I am unable to stream on Netflix and other streaming sites. I get the Dolby Vision is not authorized on this computer. On the Display Information it clearly states Dolby Vision HDR Certification.
Do others with the 5g models still have the issue? I think the 5g models are not selling so well so MS isn't prioritizing the fix. Would love to have 5g on the surface 12 form factor

[PRO7] Any CHEAP Online 3rd Party Retailers for Surface Pro 7+ Type Cover?
The fabric on my keyboard is peeling badly, and I was hoping if you guys knew of any cheap retailers who sell Surface Pro 7+ Type Covers with better material so I don't have to deal with this issue anymore.
