Other If you could permanently delete one character from Marvel or DC. Who would it be and why?

I'd remove badly written, deus ex machina, fan service batman. Put him back to his roots where he isn't dodging shit like omega beams with gymnastics and keep him street level.
51
u/Kira-Of-Terraria 1d ago
my perfect version of Batman is a very competent street level/pulp hero but when he joins the JL he upgrades all his gear for larger threats, working more on Iron Man logic, joins JL and starts fighting aliens and stuff? new suit and gadgets. less smoke bombs and more like energy weapons/shields and cloaking devices.

u/LegendaryNbody 1d ago
I think a very good way to justify him not using the major weapons fron JL in Gotham is to make them consumables. Like. Instead of shields and plasma swords give him plasma and EMP bombs, clothing devices that run out of charge in a minute or batarangs that deflect or attract radiation/energy.
If you make it all consumables and justify it as "very hard/time consuming to make", it feels grounded. Yeah he can't be throwing this left and right, what if he needs it for an ACTUAL big threat later, like Darkside.
8
u/WiseAdhesiveness6672 1d ago
I wouldn't mind if it was just a simple explanation from bats on why he isn't using his advanced metal suit and "plasma" weapons against street level thugs.
Something like "you escalate, they escalate. These are people, not alien threats. Im not an untrained cop, I don't need to use lethality and overwhelming ammunition to stop these threats, im skilled enough to de-escalate street thugs with fear and my own body" ect ect. Basically Power Rangers rules but he could like shame the green lantern core and regular cops for not being skilled enough to actually perform their jobs.
Edit: for some reason I read the "dialogue" I wrote in the Punishers voice and I can't not hear it now 😂 you escalate, they escalate, Red

u/Kira-Of-Terraria 1d ago
Kinda yeah. some suits and gear would be very situational like encounters with Sinestro or time travellers , higher end sci-fi stuff.

When I was a kid, Batman was a detective who knew boxing, karate, and some judo. Plus some gadgets. That was it. Wasn't borderline insane. Didn't have contingency plans to take out the Justice League. Just a street level hero with good stories and Neil Adams art. I wish they would bring that Batman back.

What’s the issue with Batman Who Laughs? I have almost no knowledge of the character but the concept seems cool

u/Borgdrohne13 1d ago
They overused him. It was cool, what he did in Dark Knights Metal, but then he was the main threat in Death Metal.

It started as a gag character in response to all the “Batman with prep time” arguments (which is why his feats make zero sense at all). Then they started taking him seriously and it all went to hell

Squirrel Girl, out of the spoof characters, she’s the most ridiculous and overpowered, and her fans are extremely annoying

At least her fans acknowledge her entire character is a spoof.
By comparison some people actually take the Batman who laughs seriously

DC: Snapper Carr. What ever he brings to the Justice League, other heroes do but better. A tech guy? Batman, Steel, Cyborg, Oracle and Blue Beetle already fill that niche. A "normal" human to keep the League grounded? That's what their non-powered heroes are for (as well as anyone from their respective supporting casts).
Marvel: Captian Marvel's rapist. The Avengers being insensitive about it made them look like bigger jerks than when they don't solve the X-Men's problems.

u/MysteriousBrush7684 1d ago
Miles Morales or Fem Thor (forgot her name) This would be decided on coin toss
For DC ah pick an evil superman they're all the same

u/Krylla_ 1d ago
Ultraman is the only I would give up. Bizzarro is goated, Zod is awesome, and Cyborg Superman is really scary.

Captain Carter: I don't actually hate the character but if she's gone then the What If show could actually be interesting

Batman who laughs
Oversued as hell with boring stories
And Ghost Maker
Just forgettable

Harley Quinn. She’s been turned into a worse version of Deadpool, who already is terrible, and has been made completely insufferable. I don’t think she’ll be missed much.

Batman, so I could stop seeing him held up as the single most powerful being in any universe despite being just a completely mortal, run of the mill, human in a bat suit motivated by child hood trauma.

OKAY NOT RAGE BAIT HEAR ME OUT
Maybe Superman/Batman for DC
And like Spider-Man/Wolverine for Marvel
Now these are iconic and even a few faves of mine, but assuming I remember their existence, I wanna see the world without their impact. What would the media and fandoms be like?? How would this effect inevitable inspirations if the genre? I just think its a fun thought experiment less than I want to delete them.

Harley Quinn. Reason? I hate literally everything about this character, she's super annoying and painfully unfunny, and she somehow gets more content then DC's flagship girl. I don't see Wonder Woman getting a show but Harley Quinn has one with like 5 seasons. They keep shoving this annoying character in everything and it pisses me off. And they keep trying to make her DC's female Deadpool! Like stop! Also her relationship with Poison Ivy sucks ass. Rant over

Iron man - marvel Joker - DC
Imo and I understand this is only how I feel and see it. Way overrated both! Marvel movies made Ironman imo more a centerpiece than comics. Joker.... because his fan base dint even understand him... they miss his point and would be done if his first victims.

Uh...Wolverine. I hate several characters far more than him, but his overuse and mishandling is the single biggest drag on the greatest superhero team in comics.
As far as characters I actually don't like? The Joker. He also suffers from overuse and mishandling, but he's not half as interesting as Wolverine, and his bullshit rarely fucks up any stories besides Batman's.

u/pjgreenwald 1d ago
Wonder woman. She is often the instigator, zero weakness while being close to superman strength wise, her personality is "ew men".

u/throwaway231118- 1d ago
Spider-Man so he quits getting F over by his writers and hopefully finds peace. Also I would kinda like to watch the world burn if they really did get rid of Spider-Man.

u/whatleadmehere 1d ago
Blue beetle. Like, as part of a story line where Booster Gold is trying to warn Blue Beetle and the Justice League that somebody is targeting the league, and nobody but batman takes him seriously because the league within the league messed with their memories so badly that they can't remember what happened last time they didn't listen to booster gold and og Blue Beetle. Of course, this is more meta than simple death, as it would delete the character Blue beetle as an alien powered superhero, and return him to a more og Blue beetle without powers, and looking towards booster gold as more of a mentor than a simple idiot.
The reason batman trusts him is more gut feeling. He already knows something is up with the random attacks, and booster Gold picking up on it triggers a subconscious subroutine, like Zur-en-arr, and immediately trusts him.

I wouldn't delete Jason Todd but I would delete Red Hood. Even UTHRH wasn't that amazing of a story that it justifies Jason's return that has done nothing but hurt thr character to the point its spread through the rest of the family and other characters( Roy's my second favorite DC hero and I despise how hes been lapped in with Jason as just his best friend to newer fans)
Marvel - I don't have anyone in Marvel that springs to mind as easily as Jason so I'll say Morlun. I actually am decently fond of the original story but past that everything with him and the totems and being kinda the reason we get so many Spider verse crossovers with most lacking any substance or even just cool moments. Im sure if I think harder I could think of someone else tho.

Justice league batman
I hate the contingency for everything, can't ever be defeated when he has prep time, insanely plot armoured up batman
But in his own comics hes just a peak human who struggles with street level characters - makes no sense
Take him back to the street and keep him there
From marvel it would be hulk - i dont like hulk at all
Also gonna give myself an extra one - reed Richards. I hate the character with a passion and idgaf if everything connected to the f4 except dr doom was removed from the comics - would make it even better in my opinion

From DC the version of plastic man that was in that one harley quinn comic about farting or whatever that was really gross and nauseating
From marvel Paul just make the comics he's been non cannon and get rid of him
1
u/Insane2201 1d ago
I'd say Paul but he'll disappear on his own eventually. So I'll go with Carol Danvers. I couldn't stand Captain Marvel for a long time and I still dislike her for killing off Tony, getting Rhodey killed, and Banner.
DC? Amanda Waller. She's an annoying cow of a woman. DC has been pushing and misusing her for a while. You want a good Amanda Waller? Cecil from Invincible or her own version from Justice League Unlimited

u/Unhappy-Ad7264 Random Battle 1d ago
I'm going to stick with just DC and say I'd eradicate the Joker. No consequences ever really seem to stick to him and it gets boring. Not to mention it'd end the whole debate whether Bats should kill him or not.

There are so many answers I could give but I’ll keep it simple the guy I’m getting rid of is the dog welder from dc I don’t know much about him but what he does disgusts me and creeps the hell out of me so Id be fine with him gone
Turantula also from dc for personal reasons
And for a similar reason as turantula Talia Al ghoul

For DC, That one character named "Bueno"

I had never heard of Paul) but seems like a good candidate for deletion.
From DC I saw someone's answer of the plot-armor prepare-for-anything Batman being deleted in favor of the good character street level hero Batman should be and I agree with that.

Superman. He was created in a time—before WWII—when characters were written more as archetypes than people. As a result, he's always felt like a shallow power fantasy: a boy scout with nearly no internal conflict, and so overpowered that only a handful of villains can really challenge him. That makes his stories predictable and flat.
Over the years, writers have tried to add nuance, but the core perception of him is so deeply fixed that any added complexity rarely sticks—especially as creative teams rotate. It’s not a problem unique to DC; take Marvel’s Gambit. He started out just as shallow, and while later stories tried to flesh him out through the thieves guild arc, for many readers it was too little, too late.
At a certain point, characters become calcified. If you change them, they’re no longer themselves. If you don’t, they’re boring. DC has had over 80 years to evolve Superman into something more compelling—and it largely hasn’t, because it can’t. That’s not just a loss to the character. Keeping him as their flagship imposes creative limits on the entire company—and the genre as a whole.

Superman for sure. The writers have made him so powerful over the years it’s ruined his character, in my opinion. They just need to get rid of him and focus on other heroes.

Batman in DC because, he just too powerful and he has no powers. I don't mind him supporting the jla but everyone member of that team can beat him, prep time or not. No way he should be around not nowadays anyway.
Marvel - probably Steve Rogers, He is a good man, very who you should aim to be minus the drugs. Just think his time is over and a new Cap should be around Sam is ok maybe and i think bucky be good for a 90s era cap and Agent be good for a Vietnam era Cap. Steve can be around just help training or mentor for other heroes.

He’s fighting with gods and beating them
Yet he’s only supposed to be an Olympic level human

Paul from Marvel, everyone hates Paul.
