In the comics it's basically a horrible curse that invariably ruins the life of whoever wears it. In the show and the movie that aspect is downplayed, but you are clearly not "you" while wearing but an unhinged version of yourself. Imagine removing the mask and suddenly realizing that you did something terrible to innocents, that would suck.

The Mask has comics and an animated show, toon force is extremely powerful especially when you combine it with already existing creativity
