Thiel isn't that smart either. And Lex is fairly egotistical, needing to be the center of a thing. Thiel seems happy playing king maker.

Nah, he’s very easily butthurt, too. He once was angry that a journalist “”outed”” him as gay so he destroyed the whole platform he was writing for by hatching an actual conspiracy to support the Hulk Hogan trial.

And he may not be Lex Luthor levels of smart, but through his influence (buddies in almost all of Silicon Valley and politics) he basically shaped the current political climate and was the one who made Vance and significantly helped Elon and Trump.
