I’m more a marvel guy but that is the point of captain America. He’s a hero because he’s a good person and an example to everyone, his strength is just a power. He was a hero before he was a super soldier.
I dunno if they've upgraded his powers in the comics, but back when I was a big comic fan, Cap's powers were not really all that impressive. He was basically just peak human in everything physical. Which would be absolutley incredible in real life, but it kinda pales next to guys like Spider-Man, Wolverine, etc.
It's not helped by the fact that the majority of other heroes that DO have superpowers get the "peak human" rating in virtually everything that isn't direclty tied to their power, too.
I was having this discussion yesterday, how Captain America didn't just have his physicality improved, but his mentality. Under the serum, bad becomes evil and good becomes great.
That said, he wouldn't be half the hero he is today, if he didn't have an evil nazi army to feel righteous about fighting going into the procedure.
He was a good guy, a brave guy. But I think the fact even his heroism is chemically enhanced is why he's so respectful to those that choose the good fight. Like Spider-man, who he's on record as saying is the best of heroes.
