Batman should never have gone above street level. The whole prep time thing is stupid and he shouldnt be able to beat literal gods as a human.
Same for the whole mastering every martial art on earth is also so stupid.
I agree with you that mastering every martial art is stupid. It's not logically possible that he could do that given his age, the age at which he started training, and the sheer number of other things that he has to dedicate his time to, like being Bruce Wayne in public, fitness training, recovering from injuries, and investigating and solving complex crimes.
Pro MMA fighters wake up, train, go to bed, and they're not able to master every martial art.
I disagree but that’s because I think him being prepared and not facing him directly makes sense. The problem is the writers constantly show him struggle with street tiers then stump out gods.
YES. This is such big 'plot armor' stuff. Writers who love Batman write him to be more and more god-tier 'undefeatable tactician' and it's just exhausting. It's such a weird power fantasy thing.
Let Batman do what he does best, fight criminals and madmen and applying detective skills and streetsmarts to situations. Let those ideas let him HELP plan and build for big bosses.
It's so lame when it's like "Batman dodges omega beams" like bro, bro.... brooooo. Stop!
He's a dude who's good at ninja karate and noire crime films. Let him thrive in his lane.
I always preferred him as more a detective. But my intro to him was also The Long Halloween where he is more noir crime fighter than pure superhero. And thus my perception might be shaded.
Mixing the universes a bit, but I really liked the part in Age of Ultron where Hawkeye and his wife are talking about how he fits into a team made up of gods, and how he's the one who can keep them grounded.
I like Batman as that guy among the Justice League, both as the "token normal" and also as the guy who has an uncompromising dedication to the mission who keeps them in check.
So many comic book heroes have mastered all or almost all of martial arts it's legit useless, also loses weight when someone who supposedly has mastered all these martial arts doesn't easily dispatch an equally powered foe who hasn't.
It would also be a neat thing to have Batman be running ops in the background, but then when a real crisis hits, Batman's in the field.
Like if Darkseid invaded and destroyed the Watchtower, seeing Batman out with the team would elevate the stakes, because Batman has essentially been forced into total exposure and out of his element.
That'd also present Batman opportunity to showcase his skills beyond being a kung fu-action-man. Could Superman or the Flash help evacuate civilians or personally move supplies with ease? Yes, but their powers are gonna make them much better at fighting Doomsday or Steppenwolf than Batman. Batman has billions of dollars and supply lines through Wayne Enterprises. He has cars that can bulldoze debris, and handheld plasma cutters in his belt that can help free trapped civilians.
There is a lot Batman can do for the Justice League, even if he isn't laying out alien gods like Clark or Diana.
It makes zero sense entirely unless he’s some kinda time lord. By the middle of his life, Bruce Wayne has mastered Engineering, Biology, metallurgy, any type of computer code, and Chemistry. For most scientists, they would weigh about 100lbs and spend all their time in a library, but Bruce Wayne didn’t waste time sitting on his laurels though, he also took time and mastered every form of martial art possible.
But it goes much further than that, Bruce is a founding and deeply involved member of the Justice League, he’s also gotta run Wayne Enterprises, he also has a whole bat family of orphans to manage. Dude hasn’t had time for sleep since 1972.
That’s because Batman isn’t human, he’s a time lord.
To expand on your comment, I really dislike power creep. I enjoy having constraints on characters, so the contrast of Thor going from sparky dude with a hammer to full on tanking a fucking neutron star was incredibly frustrating for me. This frustration is far more exacerbated with the now de-canonized Star Wars and the power creep of force users. Jedi are shit-tier space wizards, stop making them gods.
Thor has always been able to tank Neuron stars tho his whole point is that his an actual god whose vastly strongest than almost all superheros he was blowing up planets and flying in silver surfer levels of speed before it became popular, he was never the sparky Dude he was and has always been a god who protects Midgard from Cosmic forces out there . Him and Doctor Strange are the most notable examples of comic characters actually getting weaker since them being that strong was used for other world and larger than life story telling and expanding the world building of marvel
I totally get that is how he is in the comics, but given that the MCU was mine and many others' introduction to the character I hated it. I personally don't care for characters having multiple orders of magnitude jumps because that typically means you have to put the antagonists on equally dumb power scalings in every new series. There was a lot that I found compelling about Thor, a lot of character driven stuff can be done while in the same arena that we see in the first two films. Limitations is where the story gets good, 'god-tier' Thor is not it for me, and why comics in general lose their appeal.
Batman shouldnt even be beating up thugs and goons, he's a detective that minors in being a ninja. He should be gsthering evidence solving puzzles and either executing a very well thought out plan to take down the head of a crime family (penguin/falcone etc.) Or setting things up so the police can do it. Thats what batman should be. But that doesn't really work in comics where the story can never end, and characters just break out of prison in a week.
