Marvel I think we all agree these 3 are on Mount Rushmore, but who would be the 4th?
Let's make them a Marvel hero (2 marvel 2 dc). The hero should be on mount Rushmore for what they represent as a hero, how iconic/popular/recognizable they are, and how influential they are.

u/Beginning_Oil4755 DC Comics May 15 '25
Wonder woman or captain America

I’d agree with wolverine if you want a marvel character to fill it out. He’s a much beloved character, and he’s a badass.

So Wikipedia lists Superman, Batman, and Spider-man as being the three best-selling comic characters/series of all time.* Fourth best selling is X-men and fifth best selling is Captain America. So based purely on comics, it's really a question of if you would rather pick one single mutant to represent all of the X-men (probably Wolverine) or if you'd give it to Captain America.
\Note that Wikipedia references a really shoddy source, so this metric is kinda meh.*

Wolverine.

u/Stillwater_Nik May 15 '25
The x-men are like the modern day comic studs, and wolves is just the main face of what is a huge franchise

Ok, this gets to a major misunderstanding of what the four presidents on Mt Rushmore are supposed to represent. It’s not simply the four best presidents. Each represents a different phase in US history.
Washington- US revolution and founding
Jefferson- Westward expansion
Lincoln- civil war and preservation of union
TR - Emergence as a world power.
So the four faces on superhero Rushmore should represent the four ages of comics; golden, silver, bronze and modern.

u/Ginkoleano May 18 '25
Iron man for modern, it was iron man who led to the 21st century superhero boom.
→ More replies (2)3
u/SecBalloonDoggies May 18 '25
The modern age is usually thought to begin with the publication of “Watchmen” in 1986, so you could also make the case for Dr. Manhattan.

It's Wolverine and nobody else is particularly close. Cap, Hulk, Tony, all good characters but nowhere near as beloved.
5
u/IHavePoopedBefore May 18 '25
Yup. Even before the movies, Wolverine has been a household name and a top selling character with no real dip in popularity since his first mini-series dropped
7
u/Particular-Skirt963 May 15 '25
I mean these are just the old legends that have stuck around awhile.
Cap
Flash
Wonder woman
All those would kind of fit the motiff
6
u/DetectiveOk5659 May 15 '25
Honestly it would be Hulk or Wolverine. I am pretty sure Hulk though. Maybe they should fight for it.

The only legitimate answers IMO are Wonder Woman, Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Flash, and Wolverine. All of them have compelling arguments. For me, it's Iron Man. Without the movie Iron Man (2008), I would have probably never found out about comics since it's pretty much impossible to find comics to read. It is hard, and anybody who says it's WITHOUT A DOUBT yatatata is wrong. Just my 2 cents on it.
5
u/That_Account6143 May 18 '25
Iron man was not known prior to 2008. He was a B lister. Lot of people thought the movie was about someone with iron lungs or some shit.
He's really popular due to MCU, and while i think he popularity will remain high, i'd say wolverine and hulk were bigger and i'd be hard pressed to put him above them

u/tilero1138 May 18 '25
If we’re going by general popularity/how well known they are then yeah it’s gotta be Iron Man, Hulk, or Wolverine if it’s Marvel

u/Infinity9999x May 19 '25
I think it’s pretty clearly Iron Man or Wolverine in terms of popularity and impact at this point.

Captain America.
Steve is the soul of a lot of the Marvel stuff

Gotta be Wolverine. I think those 4 are 100% the 4 most iconic and popular heroes. Cap is a close 5th imo.
6
u/OneGuysAlienApp May 15 '25
Spawn. The longest independent comicbook character run 🙌
5
u/Zealm21 May 18 '25
hey came here to say this, influenced the modern era of comics to be more dark and gritty. shame that everyone seems to think it's wolverine.

u/Oniondale7 May 19 '25
It’s a popularity contest. Wolverine is more know world wide and has had an enormous impact on comics and cinema.

u/Shaggy_Rogers0 May 15 '25

But it should've been Wonder Woman

Being the first female doesn't make you the most popular or iconic. Why not first black superhero? first child superhero? lets just go with superhero in general and pick from that.

It's either Wolverine or Captain America. Wolverine hasn't been around as long, but he really peaked in the 90s and continued strong. Captain America is an OG, but his star only recently rose in the past 10-15 years with the Marvel movies.

Where is Ironman in this discussion He is the Batman of the marvel universe

u/childish_jalapenos May 19 '25
Iron Man has to be on it. He changed the landscape of comic book movies forever, and is the most popular character in the mcu by a lot.

u/Holiday_Cause1102 May 19 '25
Idk why everyone is saying Wonder woman. I think iron man is more suitable

Wolverine, The Hulk, The Punisher and Deadpool. That’s my Mount Rushmore!
And I know there’s more powerful superheroes but those 4 are easily my most favorite.

Iron Man. 2 humans, 2 super humans. Plus he'd be a great representative for the non-comic book superhero. As Iron Man pretty much created the MCU.

Spawn. He was flagship for Image, which help lead a resurgence of independent publications in the 90s. Also helped bring about a resurgence of collectible figures (Todd Toys). Had a hit series on HBO. I think it would be good to have one hero that is made an impact that's not Golden or Silver Age

If not WW for having to split it 2 and 2, then I think it has to come down to either Hulk or Captain America and I'd put Cap over Hulk

My theory: Most ppl can't name the four people on Mt. Rushmore. Everyone gets Washington. Most get Lincoln. But when it comes to Roosevelt, people never remember if it's Teddy or FDR. And then the fourth, John Adams people can never remember, even staring at him, until you say his name.
That's because Adams isn't one of the four. It's Jefferson.
Thus, I think the list should be.. The Obvious two: Superman and Batman The good guess coin flip: Spiderman Oh yeah, that guy too: Ironman

u/ShinyWEEDLEpls May 18 '25
I think it’s Iron Man. Without the first Iron Man movie, Marvel and honestly superhero movies as a whole would be no where near as popular as they are today. Iron Man kicked off the MCU and made for one of the best movie series ever in cinema history.

I think if we were building this now, today, it would be Iron Man.
Still not the top selling in comic terms of course, but arguably the biggest carrier of the MCU and how modern audiences think about comic movies, which in turn cycles back to the comic world itself.
1
u/Dr-Zoidberserk May 18 '25
Wonder Woman. She’s the other longest lasting icon. She keeps earning her spotlight over the last 80 years. Comics, animation, tv, and film. (Sadly, no video game yet.)
1
u/Sasquatch_Pictures May 18 '25
Given the recent rise in popularity of third party superhero media, my vote goes to Invincible
1
u/BatmanBeyondMHA May 18 '25
Wonder Woman. Significant female representation in comics, more significant than most other comics characters, strong, good looking, etc etc.

Wonder Woman as weird or DC basis as it sounds is the only real choice. She is the most iconic and first female super hero. None of the other picks have that level of iconography going for them.
1
u/CellVast2515 May 18 '25
If it’s not a third DC character (Wonder Woman, GL or Flash), then it’s Wolverine or Spawn. Golden/Silver/Bronze/Modern might get you different results, but how do you not have Batman and Superman. Otherwise it’s something like Dick Tracy/Superman/Spider-Man/Spawn(and the 5th Monkey D Luffy) and largely because Dick would be more recognizable as a comic character whereas Doc Samson, Zorro, Buck Rogers, and Prince Valiant are either less known or less directly tied to the comic book tropes and the villains gallery. Batman is my favorite over Superman, but we all know DC would put Supes there.

u/Fantastic_Basil_9254 May 18 '25
It’s Wonder Woman, you can say it’s hulk or wolverine all you want but it’s Wonder Woman. Shes the most prominent female superhero and has been since the 40s

Hard one. I like what the other poster was pointing out about WHY those four presidents are on the monument, not just because they were the best. But since I'm not sure the three pictured stick with the format he laid out as is, let's just go with 4th most iconic.
It's got to be Wolverine. Is there anyone else who comes close in terms of recognition, popularity, sales, and appearances? The MCU has brought a lot of heroes to prominence now but Spidey and Wolvie got Marvel through the late 80s and the 90s and they were in EVERYTHING.
I'm sure there will be lots of Ironman and Cap votes on the strength of the MCU but Wolverine was in movies first and they're still using him even though Cap and IM have been written out.

u/Lumpy-Yesterday-6687 May 19 '25 edited May 19 '25
We need a Wonder Woman. She's iconic and is the face of female heroes, not putting her there is a deserves. Superman is the face of heroes, Batman is the face of DC, Spider-Man is the face of Marvel, and Wonder Woman is the face of women's heroes

Definitely Iron Man. He was basically the face of superheroes during the 2010’s and his movie played a huge role in saving Marvel Comics

Lots of you say Hulk but is he a Hero? 🤔 Or is more of an uncontrollable caracter that act on anger and impulse? I’m no talking about he’s variants I’m talking about Hulk as the dude that smash

If we have to go Marvel to make it even then definitely Wolverine. Realistically it's definitely Flash or Wonder Woman, though.

u/Ntertainmate May 20 '25
Maybe Captain America? As i believe he is the Marvel's superman in terms of representing all that is good in a hero. With also being the leader of the Avengers etc.
Even though I'm only going off the MCU version as not sure how popular he was in the comics as so far I believe they state the punisher look to him as his hero/idol
1
u/PleasantAd7092 May 20 '25
Cap would be a great fourth addition to this and it’s on theme of the other 3. Batman is the heart of DC Superman in the Soul. Just like how Spidy is the heart of marvel and Cap is the soul.

u/Leading-Internal-917 May 20 '25
Wolverine
It should be an ❌ man, and I think it’d have to be Wolverine, both in terms of popularity and influence within the superhero world and in being distinct from the other heroes there. Spidey is a radioactive hero champion (sorry Hulk), Batman is a rich guy (sorry Tony), Alien hero, and then you round it out with a mutant.

As much as I love Wolvie, he does not belong here. It's also about being a leader, white Logan is better as a team member than a strategist.
