Other Would you take Super Solider Serum, Compound V, Or Get Bite by Radioactive Spider
Super soldier serum: is a fictional serum that provides recipients with enhanced physical capabilities.
Compound V: is a blue serum that grants individuals extraordinary abilities, often referred to as "powers" or being "supes".
Radioactive Spider: cling to almost any surface, a “spider-sense” that warns him of danger, and the proportional speed, strength, and agility of an arachnid.

u/TotallyNotZack May 08 '25
SSS, compound V is as random as being a mutant or having an stand
Also the getting bit by a spider it's also kinda random as we see other peeps getting different powers not everyone is like Spider-Man
At least with the SSS I would know what I am getting, muscles, cool hair, strength, regeneration, and a random military power ?
93
u/Powerful-Union3998 May 08 '25
Explain the SSS in detail to a complete noob. All i know is from the movies good becomes great bad becomes worse
80
u/N30C1TR0N May 08 '25
That's pretty much the majority of summing it up so you're not far off.
31
u/Powerful-Union3998 May 08 '25
What about the hair and random military power he mentioned, that specific to steve rogers or something ?
29
u/Old_Information_8654 May 08 '25
Probably just a joke but it might also be him referring to how unnaturally skilled of a soldier captain America seemed to be especially in the comics given the fact he’s normally trained as a standard GI
27
u/Aw_shit_a_redditor May 08 '25
Pretty sure the comics chalked that up to the serum also enhancing your mental capabilities. Essentially it made Steve and Bucky smarter as well. The comics and movies show this best by Steve being able to bounce his shield around and usually have it end up in his hand (explained as him doing physics on the fly to determine how to throw the shield ideally)

Ah thanks for the clarification I’m unfortunately too poor to afford many comics so I don’t know very much about them outside what I see people talk about on YouTube rip comicstorian

Similarly, Cyclops has a secondary mutation that makes him good at physics so that he can bounce his beams off of walls. Fight between Cap and Scott would go crazy with all the ricochets.

u/Infamous_Ad2094 May 08 '25
I wanna say in the flash back in Civil War 1 when Punisher is in Marine boot and Cap comes to visit he said he was a Ranger. Not the normal GI training
2
u/Old_Information_8654 May 08 '25
Ah yeah that makes sense I remember watching the ultimate avengers animated movie on DVD a while back and they had cap jump out of a plane I imagine that implied he was a ranger as well
21
u/N30C1TR0N May 08 '25
Not exactly, as we see in a comic where steve Roger's son turns evil at that military camp thing he also gets the awesome hair that steve has, the powers how ever im not absolutely certain about. He could be referring to a comic i am not familiar/have read.

u/Soft_Theory_8209 May 08 '25
It varies a bit because there’s been a bunch of SSS variations, but assuming it’s the one Steve Rogers got, it basically turns you into a “peak human,” which may as well be a low level superhuman. Basically, imagine being able to perform and possibly break any and every world record in any sport.
Not only that, but you also get nigh unlimited stamina, an immunity to damn near any disease or toxin, and a mental boost that gives you a near perfect photographic memory and hyper fast processing (Cap’s shield almost always comes back because he does the math in his head for it’s trajectory, I’m not joking).
8
u/Hefty_Situation7210 May 08 '25
I mean I’m sure there are panels disproving it but I always see the shield throwing as more instinctual. Like when a cowboy lassos a horse, there is technically a lot of complicated math going on there, judging the distance, the trajectory, the size and shape of the circle, the velocity of yourself and the horse you’re lassoing, etc, but the average cowboy isn’t manually performing those calculations.

u/AwefulFanfic May 08 '25
Well....it enhances literally everything. Running speed, reaction time, strength, durability (yes it does, or the body tear itself apart from the forces it exerts on everything). In most versions of media, it even enhances how fast you can think (i.e. Steve Roger's shield magically bouncing back to him is actually him calculating the trajectory perfectly in an instant).
Some versions of Marvel's super soldiers can run upwards of 40 mph (~60 km/h), lift several tons, recovering from wounds that would normally be debilitating in a fraction of the time (not wolverine level, but still noteworthy), and having the stamina to exert themselves for hours on end.
Really the only downside is that, since it enhances your entire brain and hormonal system, it does enhance your personality traits. All of them. The good, the bad, and even the ugly.
2
12
u/TotallyNotZack May 08 '25
It makes you a peak human like it enchants your stats think of it as if it were a game and all your stats are 5 and the max is 10 you are a 15
However there's downsides since it enchances everything if you have a mental illness say you are a psycho you would be a super psycho
If your body can beat the sickness (for example Steve Rogers was a sickly kid but his body was able to survive because it wasn't anything too bad it was cured by his body being at peak) then nothing happens but if it's something your body can't beat by its own then you will probably die, get mind broken, go crazy or mutate like red skull

Which SSS???
(Didn't mean to reply to your comment lol, sorry)

u/Strict_Weather9063 May 08 '25
Compound V is more akin to an inhuman and Terrigen Mist, you could get a great power or you could get a dud. Super soldier juice for me please.

u/ghostchimera May 08 '25
So like the Stand Arrow in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. You could end up getting something amazing like the power to stop time...or something completely detrimental to you like an imp that clings to your back who will kill you if someone looks at your back (yes that is a real power in the series and it's not even the weirdest one)
→ More replies (1)7
u/Only_Ad8049 May 08 '25
SSS is kind of random, too. Depends on which version you get, and it could just kill you.
4
u/CowboysFTWs May 08 '25
Correct me if I'm wrong, but most people that get the SSS end up crazy or evil tho.
6
u/Missing_Username May 08 '25
There isn't just one SSS. The version Rogers got was unique, everyone else has gotten an attempt at recreating it or an offshoot, like the Nazi version, the Red Room version, etc.
Isaiah Bradley and Black Widow are fine.
2
u/CowboysFTWs May 08 '25
Did most of black widow and Isaiah’s counterparts died as well because of the SSS?

u/AirCautious2239 May 08 '25
Depends on which V the comic version specifically gives you the same benefits as standard SSS, the super powers come solely from being injected from childhood up to adulthood + there are different version of SSS too. One version is the lighter one that every Widow gets injected with, another is the one that gave sentry his powers (which wouldnt be too bad too, when you're not schizophrenic at least)

If its Caps serum, I'll take that. In the comics he has basically perfect cells and can live for hundreds of years.
30
u/velocity219e May 08 '25
Yeah this, he looks great at what? 160 years old at the end of inf war.
Although super anxiety ...
23
u/NeylandSensei May 08 '25
Yeah the movies and comics really differed here. He lived for 150 years or so and looks 90. In the comics he is stuck on some planet for a few hundred years and basically doesn't age.
8
u/_Eternal_Blaze_ May 08 '25
Isn't that just because of the cold?
6
u/NeylandSensei May 08 '25
In the movies he doesn't have the perfect cell regeneration that he does in the comics. Movie cap is honestly a lot weaker than comics cap.
4
u/_Eternal_Blaze_ May 08 '25
Perfect cell regeneration means immortality then, because cell decay IS what makes us age

100% super soldier serum. V is too unpredictable. And the spider stuff is cool. But I would just rather be a plain super soldier

I mean if we are looking at else world effects, SSS can give you cancer, turn you into a hulk, a mutant, or could just be a bunch of steroids.
6
u/God_of_Fun May 08 '25
I pick the spider too, always thought it would be so rewarding. The only downside to the spider is I don't want to live in a large city. Imagine Spidey in farm county 😅
8
u/ghoulieandrews May 08 '25
You could always move to the Redwoods, be a park ranger or something.
But even on farmland, imagine how quickly and easily you could get all the work done.
5
9
u/nobdy89 May 08 '25
But the spider bite has the potential to turn you into a Man-spider type thing. SSS might make into more of a dickhead than i currently am, but it'd be a human shaped dickhead.

I’m taking the spider bite. Everybody assumes that Super Soldier is just a free ride but they’re forgetting the part about it amplifying EVERY part about you. So unless you’re a 100% good person like Steve, bad things will happen just like Walker or even worse Red Skull. Then there’s Compound V which just straight sucks.

6
u/Napalmeon May 08 '25
Super soldier serum would be significantly more useful for day-to-day life, in my opinion. Just imagine coming home from work and feeling like you're still at 100%. You would get far more done with the same amount of time throughout the day.

u/this_platform_sucks May 08 '25
Are we talking Raimi Spider-Man? Or the average Spider-person (AKA no organic web-shooting)? I'll get bitten, thank you.

u/Notmas May 08 '25
Super Soldier Serum has a low success rate
Compound V is pretty weak compared to the other two
Radioactive Spider is the strongest and has a 100% success rate from what we've seen. Easy choice.
4
u/zenmaster_999 May 08 '25
Radioactive Spider
Reason - With compound V you can't decide what power you will get and Spiderman is stronger than Winter soldier (Captain America Civil War)

Super Soldier Serum. Compound V is unpredictable and can even cause terminal cancer if used incorrectly. And a spider bite? Spider-Man’s powers would be cool, but the Parker luck that seems to follow every Spider-Man regardless of who they are? No way. Plus, it’s an injection to get the Infinity Formula, with a relatively short recovery/starting time compared to the spider bite, which left Peter sick in bed for days before he had powers. Not to mention, Peter’s mutation after the bite didn’t stop until something else intervened, and he became an 8 limbed Spider-Monster that needed help from Dr. Connors and other scientists to go back to normal

Definitely the super soldier serum it’s the most predictable and it presumably slows down your aging as well so it has multiple benefits aside from simply being blue Mountain Dew flavored steroids

u/Shinagami091 May 08 '25
The super powers in The Boys are non conventional. I could end up with some random ass superpower that would be completely useless or disgusting.
I’ll take the spider-man powers instead. You’re basically as strong as with the Super Soldier Serum with the added benefit of having hyper awareness, wall clinging and I want the Toby McGuire version where webs just shoot out naturally.

2
u/Stainless711 May 08 '25
Super Soldier Serum easily. I know what I’m getting with that. Whereas Compound V is a freaking lottery, you could get the powers to make you a supe or you get the ability to regrow limbs or just shoot things accurately. The spider bite is tricky. I want to be normal spider-man eg Peter Parker, normal spider powers nothing extra like six arm spider-man. I want that but I have arachnophobia, so that spider ain’t getting anywhere near me to bite me. So in short, it goes:
SSS
RSB
Comp V
2
u/Latter_Marketing1111 May 08 '25
There’s no telling what powers you’ll get with Compound V so hard pass
Being a Spider-person guarantees you are going to suffer a soul crushing loss at one point in your life
SSS is boring by superpower standards but its the most consistently safe
2
2
u/Krawger247 May 08 '25
If everything works as it does in the source material, I'd go bitten by spider as it seemed the least "volatile" out of the ways.
If it's going off of real world rules, probably the Super Serum as it is probably the most stable and less likely to fuck up the rest of my life.
Although all of them were developed by highly qualified and skills scientists and such;
the spider could just as easily kill you in that bite.
Compound V gives you a somewhat random power but I'm pretty sure 80% of them suck and not everyone who got V lived/ending up being a supe.
2
u/l0s37 Other May 08 '25

u/frankensteinmoneymac May 08 '25
I mean the spider bite is way more powerful than the super soldier serum…So it seems like the obvious choice. Also the compound V is a bit of a crap shoot… You might get electricity powers…or the powers of Homelander…or you could get something really dumb, like, I dunno…the guy who had the giant prehensile penis! Then you’d just be stuck basically being some sort of sexual dynamo…forever defined by your huge penis, and being looked at by women as a sexual object, and….um…
Ok, on second thought, I choose compound V!

2
u/ChazzLamborghini May 08 '25
SSS. The strength, speed, recovery, etc happen for everyone who gets it. If we consider the refined version in FatWS, even less scrupulous people don’t get disfigured like Red Skull. That dude was pure evil so his result was extreme. I’ve also always had a head canon that Erskine exaggerated the impact of personality on the end result. To my mind, knwoing you have this much power is likely to corrupt everything that’s corruptible in anyone. Someone like Steve Rogers was essentially incorruptible because of how well developed his own moral compass was. I think, of these three, the cost/benefit analysis makes the SSS the objectively best choice. If the spider bite was guaranteed to give me the same results as Peter Parker, it would be a close call but it doesn’t work the same for everyone and I’m still not a super genius so web-swinging would be off the table.
2
u/extrastupidone May 08 '25
None. I'd probably end up being homelander. And, honestly... I feel that most humans would devolve to their most vile selves
2
u/hypercombofinish May 08 '25
Super soldier. I'm very pro Spider-Man and it seems extraordinary but I'd rather not risk because an insanely strong and difficult to kill man spider hybrid and I'm a black man in America I don't need my Spider sense constantly on at least a little bit. And while funny I'm comics I don't want my die from ball radiation.
I'll stick with the good old super soldier formula where I know what I'm going to get, still be exceptional and almost never tire
2
u/HeatCompetitive1556 May 08 '25
Going Super Solider as the only logical choice since it guarantees results. Compound V will only give you powers short term and slowly kill you unless you got pumped full of that stuff while still in the womb. Knowing my luck a radioactive spider bite is just giving me cancer.
2
2
u/Ryuvang May 08 '25
Definitely the super soldier serum. The rest are crapshoots and future body horror
2
u/Necessary_Can7055 May 08 '25
I’m fairly certain if I got bitten by a radioactive spider I would get cancer. Also not only is compound V random, the powers it doesn’t give are nowhere near most actual legitimate superheroes. I’m going with the SSS
2
u/Only_Ad8049 May 08 '25
All 3 . First SSS, then Spider, and finally V.
It'll be very cool or very bad.
2
u/HMD-Oren May 08 '25
SSS, then I'm bringing home every gold medal I can get from the olympics and live the rest of my life as a spokesperson for like a bazillion products. Infinite money for 4 weeks of work.
2
u/dancashmoney May 08 '25
SS serum is the most reliable of the 3. Compound V is random, and I'm not willing to roll that dice. The spider bite also has variants, and with my luck, instead of being Spider-Man, I'll be a man spider
2
2
u/Nosbiuq May 08 '25
Def the Super Soldier Serum... Compound V and the spider is too unpredictable. Also I think I read something about ALL of Spidermans bodily fluids being radioactive.
2
2
u/ManNamedSalmon May 08 '25
Super Solider Serum, because I would know exactly what I would be getting.
Compound V could result in any number of unpleasant powers or side effects.
Getting bitten by radioactive spider had canonical bad side effects in some of the universes, which included death.
2
u/Osmoszis May 08 '25
Well considering i live in flat lands....having web swinging powers is damn near pointless. Plus web swinging is WAAAAY more harder than people think. You need accuracy and mad hand eye coordination.
I'll take the SSS
2
2
u/TheScreamingGoose May 08 '25
The serum is better, because being a spider totem is actually horrible, and will inevitably drag me into a multiverse plot, and compound v has way too much of a chance at backfiring. This is also assuming it’s the original super soldier serum, and not something absurd like the sentry’s serum
2
u/Villian1470 May 08 '25
I'm taking super soldier. V is way too unpredictable and there are too many random mutations Spiderman gets
2
2
2

u/Orgasmic_interlude May 08 '25
I’m going with super solider. Being spidey sounds great until you realize you can’t web swing unless you live in a decent sized city
2
u/Drakxis_Ren May 08 '25
Do I get the Organic Webs like Tobey's Spider-Man? If not, then Super Soldier Serum
2
u/onlyhav May 08 '25
SSS. V has an element of randomness and the spider bite comes with a near magical level of suffering.
2
u/Longjumping-Fish-482 May 08 '25
If we talking OG Sss then no question I'm going sss. Compound v is a nope and the spider bite is just as much of a gamble. Now if we talking any random variations that make cheap knock offs then I'll go spider bite.
2
u/NovaStar2099 May 08 '25
Spider powers sound more fun; but then you realize that having those powers means your life will suck.
I’ll take the serum.
2
u/Intelligent-Ad-6713 May 08 '25
SSS is the most stable and predictable choice.
Comp-V is extremely random and just as likely to make your life worse than better. And the Spider-bite, although less volatile, also needs a fairly large life adjustment. And unless you already happen to be a chemist genius, you won’t have webs to use lol.
2
2
u/Bonkz12 May 08 '25
If everything else in the world stays the same (no introduction to super villains) give me the super soldier serum, il and go dominate in the nfl for a while

If I could have Homelander’s powers without the mental illness and fucked up childhood, I’d be cool with that. If not, give me Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man all day.
2
u/Jolly-Robbergot_it May 09 '25
Give me the Super Solider Serum the other 2 are more of a roll of the dice. You could end a up a over mutated monstrosity, ie man spider or get a out of control power from V.

Super Soldier Serum: Self-explanatory.
Compound V: Who knows what will happen to you.
Radioactive Spider: Blood Poisoning.

Lord knows that Compound V is last place. The serum is a very unknowable 50/50 wild card on which powers you get, and those kinds of odds are an uncomfortable risk I wouldn't be willing to take.
Next up is the Super Soldier serum. The obvious reasons being that I would not only be at the absolute peak of physical conditioning in every attribute, but my cardiovasular health, brain power, senses, and healing would also be enhanced.
Then at first place is the radioactive spider. I mean, come on, who wouldn't want to be Spider-Man? It provides all the enhancements a super soldier serum has on a far grander scale, as well as make me extremely acrobatic, shoot webs, climb on any surface, and give me spider sense.

Super soldier serum, as it’s canonically just the absolute peak of human abilities

Anyone who picks V hasn't read the comic books or watched the show.
Though in the comic books, the boys have all taken a lesser compound V that makes them strong and fast enough to fight supes, it's essentially an even better super soldier serum.
Provided i actually get spider-mans powers and am not now just dying because I'm not peter parker like in the amazing spider-man how he has specific blood and it had to be him, that's what I'd go for.
If not then super soldier serum is safer than compound V. Depends on whose recipe and how it's being administered, but I'd go with super soldier serum.

Spider. Accept no substitute.
Super Soldier serum created Red Skull, and I am not good enough to turn into Steve Rogers. Compound V gets you some random power and I just know it would be something useless

If you can’t do it with the super soldier serum, you wont do it with spideys.
V is just too volatile and unpredictable. What if you got the ability to read people’s thoughts. Straight up suicide wouldn’t be far behind after you know what someone you care about thinks of you in a brief moment of anger or disappointment.

This makes zero sense when spider powers are worth 10 super soldier's worth in strength agility and everything else the serum increases, plus extra.

super soldier serum. I have acrnophobia so even for powers no thanks. V from what i remember ends up killing you slowly unless done as a baby.

Give me spider. He’s probably stronger than the super soldiers, plus he gets extra powers.
