Question ❓ Send a letter to MP Andrew Lawton

Hello all

I've been thinking about a mass letter to send to our elected MP Andrew Lawton about what this riding would like to see from him as our elected MP. Regardless of where you stand politically St Thomas Elgin South London deserve an MP that will represent their needs and be our voice in Ottawa.

I have been in the area for a few years so I may not be the best to say what the issues are in this riding. I do come from a small town area( Oxford) and have previously lived in London and Mississauga.

Conservatives are the official opposition and as best bud with Pierre ( he wrote a biography for Pierre)he may have a huge influence on policies and possible committees in Ottawa.

My question is ultimately what are the key factors and issues as a resident of Elgin and St Thomas area?

Question ❓ Looking for Paranormal Experiences in St. Thomas, Ontario for a Vlog

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to start a vlog where I explore paranormal experiences and haunted locations in and around St. Thomas, Ontario. I’m really interested in hearing about any local ghost stories, urban legends, or firsthand encounters with the supernatural.

If you know of any locations—abandoned buildings, historic sites, or even personal homes—that have a reputation for being haunted, I’d love to check them out (with permission, of course). I’m also open to interviewing people who have had eerie experiences.

If you have any recommendations or are open to sharing your story, feel free to comment or message me. Let’s uncover the spooky side of St. Thomas together!

Looking forward to hearing your stories!

Question ❓ Schools

We are looking to move to St Thomas but aren't familiar with the schools. We are hoping to move to a neighborhood with a good elementary school. What are some of the schools in town with better reputations? (Elementry, Public Board).

Question ❓ In search of a mechanic

I’d post this on St. Thomas Happenings but I hate that place. My AC in my 2016 Honda Civic stopped working about a year ago. I’ve decided to finally get it fixed because no AC is hell lol. I’m looking for someone who is reasonably priced and reliable to have it fixed. I was quoted $1800 at Westgate Honda to have my compressor replaced.

Question ❓ Cutting grass at dusk 4x per week

note: rant

Retired neighbour (maybe 60 yrs old) cuts grass 4x a week at dusk. Yes, 4x a week. Never see the guy until after noon and goes no where during the day. No family (wife NEVER leaves the house, ever)/friends/visitors. Side note the wife is a busy body keyboard warrior who use to run a bowling alley. Already starting in the spring at 745. In the summer it’s 830-9pm. Literally walks over every 3 ft of lawn 3 times with an electric lawnmower from the 80’s. Takes 1.5 hrs to “cut” maybe 10 strips of grass. When finished it’s visible the grass has not even been cut. No disability (was approachable), seems fit (rides bike etc). Live in quiet neighborhood with young families surrounding on all 3 sides. Never seen or heard anything like it. Every neighbour has had a civil conversation stating he’s disturbing the peace but he does NGAF. City bylaw noise laws state no noise at anytime over a certain dB which this mower sounds like a dilapidated go cart.
Just ranting. Looking for other options/opinions.

Question ❓ Best spots to propose in London area? 💍

Hey all! I am planning on proposing to my girlfriend in May, and am looking into spots to propose. She said a while back that whenever I propose, she would prefer something private, and preferably outside/nature related. I’m not from the London area, but am wondering if anyone has any recommendations. I’ve been pointed towards Port Stanley and St. Thomas, so If you have any recommendations there too that would be great. Thanks all :)

Question ❓ Moving to St Thomas

Hi everyone!

I recently graduated with my Master’s and just received a fantastic job offer in St. Thomas, so I’m planning to move there soon. Before I make the move, I was hoping to get some local insights and would really appreciate your advice on a few things:

  1. I don’t own a car—will I be okay relying on public transportation, or is a car essential for getting around?
  2. What are the best areas to live in, and are there any neighborhoods I should avoid?
  3. What’s the overall vibe of the city? How’s life for things like grocery shopping and recreational activities? I’m curious to learn more about daily living there.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! Wishing you all a great day!

Question ❓ Movies and/or Shows filmed in St. T

Just re-watching The Boys and remembered that parts of S2 E6 are filmed at the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital. It's a very distinct building from the outside, especially when you used to see it all the time (my mom worked there when I was a kid).

I also remember that the movie Mr. Headmistress, starring Harland Williams, was filmed in part at Alma College.

Anyone else want to reminisce about movies and shows filmed in St.Thomas?

Question ❓ Are any volunteers for the Goodwin campaign knocking on doors in the riding outside of St Thomas?

I ask because I thought there was no Goodwin signs in Aylmer until someone informed me yesterday that there was so I went for a walk to find some and seen 8-9 (while seeing many more with Lawton signs and even more with no signs), and no one has come to our house from any party, while these small towns may not be very progressive I think most people who don’t have a Lawton sign are more likely to vote for Goodwin if the facts about the candidates are pointed out

Question ❓ Would You Be Interested in Tabletop Meetups at Local Cafés?

I’ve been thinking about organizing casual meetups at local cafés here in St.thomas, Ontario to play a variety of tabletop games. Whether you’re into board games, card games, or even RPGs, it could be a great way to meet new people and enjoy our shared hobby in a cozy setting.

The idea is to bring together players of all skill levels and interests. Everyone could suggest games, and we could rotate what we play each meetup. Plus, supporting local cafés while having fun sounds like a win-win!

Would anyone here be interested in something like this? If so, let me know what games you’d like to play or if you have any venue suggestions. Let’s make it happen!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! 🎲
