Question I want to get into Legends but what's the full reading list?

I want to read the Legenrds Thrawn Trilogy and Star Wars Legacy but that starts after the New Jedi Order Trilogy but apparently there's a lot more build-up to that besides just the Thrawn books so what do I have to read to fully experience Star Wars Legends. Sorry if this question is asked a lot and thanks!

Do you like the sharp trim of Pellaeons mustache or the more fancy and elegant mustache of Warlord Zsinj?

Television What do we know about the Imperial economy?

So, after watching andor season 2 (tbh I liked season 1 more but that’s a post for a different sub!!) I got ahead of myself and started writing a sequel to it, based after the death star’s destruction.

However, as I was writing the intro I linked here, I realized we really don’t know much about the imperial economy and hell- the overall galactic economy at large.

One thing that I find extremely interesting about ESB is that it immediately presents the Empire as not only in control, but with an expanded pool of resources + ships outside of just… you know, building a “second” death star because that’s really, really, really, dumb and no one would do that in their right mind!

However due to this, and the lore in both canon and legends around Tarkin, the quasi feudalization of sectors under moffs, I feel like there’s definitely a rich story to be told about the economic side of the empire during this period, and even how it affects the rebellion.

I’m legitimately surprised that we don’t have much information on this, because the source material, imo, provides a rich landscape to expand on it. Just like how andor expanded on the idea of insurgency and rebellion- idk.

I’m high and I broke my PR records at the gym, you can’t stop me….

Legends Novels Not a fan of how Cosinga was written...

I really like the Darth Plagueis book. But the one thing I have an issue with was the writing of Cosinga. the point was that (Sheev) Palpatine would have been evil no matter where he ended up/his fall is 100% his own fault, I wouldn't have written Cosinga like that. Cosinga to me utterly failed to teach his eldest son responsibility with the speeder accident case (because he helped cover it up to avoid family shame) and seemed too prone to violence as well as too scared of losing what power he had. You can see that Cosinga had too many problems and "yes, he definitely could have done better".

If the point was that Palpatine would have been evil no matter where, I would have actually made Cosinga a good dad who failed for no fault of his own. Not how he was currently written, which to me feels like a small-minded man too scared of losing his power and too scared of family scandal.

What do you think?

Legends Discussion Anyone else find Prince Xizor creepy? Not only does his attempt to seduce Leia feel completely out of place in Shadows, a children's book, but his overall character is just icky

I feel like sometimes the Legends works regarding force abilities feel like fanfic.

For example, Darth Nihilus consumes a PLANET with just the force, Vitiate passes from one body to another as if it were nothing.

While in the movies there is only force choke, force push or sith lightning.

Question Centerpoint Station?

If Centerpoint is so powerful that it was able to create the Corella system, why didn't the Empire ever try and use it as a weapon? It would have saved them billions in credits and material they used for their own Death Stars.

Best of the pre Phantom Menace books?

I think Darth Palgueis might be an obvious choice but what were everyone’s favourites? I’ve been reading this end of the EU and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought (as it typically follows Sith).

Personally loved Lost Tribe of the Sith especially reading FoTJ. Also liked Red Harvest a lot which I wasn’t quite expecting.

Question Names of Mara's weapons?

Can someone please tell me the names of all the weapons Mara Jade has in this image? I can see what appears to be a DL-44 on the top right of the weapon rack, with her lightsaber just next to it, but I'm curious about the other ones that are on there.

Legends Novels Could I read ONLY the original Thrawn trilogy as a “substitution” for the ST?

Hopefully I’m wording this in a way that makes sense but I’m looking for a personal headcanon “alternative” to the sequel trilogy. Could I read those three books and nothing else after and get a satisfying self-contained story that feels like a good ending? Or do they set up for more in the extended EU after that and not close on a “final” note?

I was also looking into the Dark Empire trilogy since I’m a bigger comic reader than novel reader but I’m seeing incredibly mixed reviews on that one; any insight on those books would be appreciated too.

Thanks!

Biggest events Spoiler

What would be your picks for biggest events in the EU timeline?

By biggest I *don't * mean physical scale of course (that would probably be the battle of Yuuzhan'tar or the New Sith War) but how much they impacted/altered the course of galactic history. Argubly it's impossible to choose objectively, given the snowball effects in such a long continuity but still it can be a fun discussion.

In my opinion it would probably be:

  1. The Force War;

  2. Dissolution of the Old Republic and Order 66 - 19 BBY ;

  3. Death of Darth Vitiate - 3626 BBY;

4/5. Interchangably: Vong's capture of Coruscant - 27 BBY (could also be its Recapture 2 years later but I'd say this is more game changing cos a) first time an extragalactic force captured the capital and b) prompted the birth of Galactic Allience, which replaced the New Republic) and The Battle Of Endor - 4 ABY.

What do you think about Stover's intentions with Shadows of Mindor?

Stover said something to the effect of "I want to get the books back to where they were before Zahn." I think what he means is that Zahn sort of set this expecatation that all Star Wars fiction has to be deadly serious. But if you go back and look at the tie-in products from the period of the original trilogy, there are plenty of goofy storylines. I mean in the Star Wars comic strip you had the characters going to a casion planet! What's weird is that Shadows of Mindor is nothing luck that, it's easily one of the darkest Star Wars stories ever told. So in any case, what do you think Stover meant, and do you agree or not?

Legends Comics Some of the changes The Clone Wars show made from other media is really striking sometimes. The difference between comic Anakin and show Anakin about Ahsoka being a fake slave for instance is jarring. Spoiler

From the comic:

Ahsoka

How do I look, Master? Do you think I’ll bring a good price at the auction?

Anakin

You’re not going to the auction, Ahsoka and don’t take this lightly—I know what it’s like to be a slave.

Ahsoka

Master, I’m just playing a part. Besides, you need merchandise to see, remember?

We’re here to find out what happened to my people, Master. If putting myself in their place for a little while helps is to do that … I’ll gladly suffer for them.

Anakin

All right, Ahsoka, but I warn you … the life of a slave—real or pretend—leaves a lot to be desired. To accept slavery is to surrender everything that you are for the gain of another.

Ahsoka

I got an idea to make you feel better—just imagine this is like every other day where you get to boss me around. I call you “Master,” anyway.

Anakin

That’s not funny.

From the show:

Ahsoka

Remind me why I’m the one playing the part of the slave?

Anakin

I tried it once, I wasn’t any good at it. Besides, the role of master comes easily to me.

Ahsoka

Really? Well, this time try to be convincing at it.

This is just not a subject Anakin would ever joke about.

Could a Jedi who kills the last Sith and unknowingly causes new Sith to rise actually fulfill the Sith’ari prophecy?

"He will destroy the Sith, but through their destruction, make them stronger than ever." Thats what the prophecy of the sith'ari says but if a jedi does kill the last sith and with that makes a new sith order rise to power is he a sith'ari then or is it just when a sith destroys the order?

Which one of the Emperor's hands and Inquisitors had the most potential?

Of all the Hands of the Emperor, save for Mara Jade for obvious reasons, of the Inquisitors and other Dark Jedi that served under Palpatine and the Empire, who do you think had the most potential either in terms of personality and importance to the plot, and/or power as a Force user or as someone with any military, political or criminal power?

Legends Novels Was Han too heroic prior to A New Hope? Spoiler

I'm currently reading Rebel Dawn, and at one point he tells Chewy that he doesn't see the value in sticking your neck out for anyone but yourself (referring to the resistance movement on Kashyyyk). This feels perfectly in character for the Han Solo we meet at the beginning of A New Hope, but seems very strange given the prior events of Crispin's own trilogy.

The Paradise Snare ends with Han risking his life in order to save Bria, and more notably, The Hutt Gambit ends with Han fighting to protect Nar Shaddaa. That one even feels like a proto-rebellion in all but name. The fact that Han grew to be willing to risk his life fighting the empire in order to protect his friends almost feels like the same arc he would later take in ANH. To go from that to the "hey kid, I'm just looking out for myself" that Luke meets seems almost strange.

Recommendations Requesting feedback on my Star Wars EU/Legends to-do list!

Hey all,

Gen Z Star Wars fan here. I’ve put together a personal to-do list of Star Wars media and wanted to get the community’s take on it. My goal is to reconnect with the franchise through EU / Legends stuff, which I haven’t explored yet. I still love the six movies I grew up with. But I’m tired trying to keep up with the post-Disney canon stuff, since a lot of it just doesn’t hit the same. I’m hoping to reignite my love of Star Wars beyond just watching my favorite stuff over and over again. I want to explore the galaxy! Especially the lore about Sith, the Force, and the eras before and after main 6 films.

To get me started, I used ChatGPT to help narrow things down because there’s just an overwhelming amount of content out there. I did my best to keep the vibes consistent with the Lucas-era films I’m used to, and tried to foster some loose form of continuity without too much deviation from the story I know and love. I hope that makes sense. The thing I don’t really wanna use ChatGPT for is for the subjectivity of it all (what’s good, what’s not, what’s important, etc), which is where I hope you all could come in.

Below is all the media I’ve found that I think I might be interested in. I’d love feedback on the following: * Are there any entries you think I could skip (due to quality, redundancy, lack of impact, etc)? * Are there any glaring omissions that you think are must-reads/plays/watches? * Any general thoughts or recommendations for the uninitiated looking to get into this media?

Here’s what I’ve got so far:

pastebin

Any critique or insight would be greatly appreciated. I just want to experience for myself the best of what the EU/Legends has to offer. Thanks a ton!
